LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

David Roe was nominated by an anonymous colleague.

Mr. Roe is sincerely a LifeChanger.

Each year, the Sagemont School has students who come from all over the world. This year alone, students are attending from Japan, Italy, Serbia, China, Russia, and Lithuania. Mr. Roe helps these students assimilate and acts as a father figure to them since their families are abroad. Every student at this school respects Coach Roe and admires him. 

Additionally, he teaches Economics at all grade levels. He goes above and beyond what is expected as an Economics teacher. He teaches his students real-life skills by hosting "Senior Market Week". During this week, seniors are broken up into groups and asked to create a business. They have to learn how to finance it, market it, and operate it. For a week in the courtyard, these groups sell their products. All proceeds go towards their Senior Class trip. They are actually learning Financial Literacy first hand. 

Lastly, he teaches AP U.S. History. There isn't a day that goes by where one of the students doesn't mention a lecture of his, a quote of his, or something they enjoyed from his class. The students look up to him and know he is intelligent and caring. 

"David is a LifeChanger for the kids who come from another country and call his classroom home. He is a LifeChanger for the kids who learn how to balance a checkbook and take care of their financial life and maybe are inspired to open a business. He is a LifeChanger to the students in whom he invoked a passion for U.S. History. Finally, he is a LifeChanger to me," said his colleague. "When I met David, I was a shy 18-year-old who thought they might want to be a teacher one day. He molded me into the teacher I am today, and I enjoy working alongside him and having him as a mentor."
