Position: Physical Education Teacher
School: Lakewood Ranch High School
School District: Manatee County Schools
City, State: Lakewood Ranch, FL
Kelly Smith-Williams was nominated by her colleague, Jeremy Schiller.
Mrs. Smith-Williams is a true LifeChanger on her campus. Not only does she consistently create interesting curriculum content for her Physical Education students, but she takes the time to mentor each and every student she has about life and their other academic responsibilities.
Mrs. Smith-Williams has created a positive atmosphere in the physical education department, and on campus, with her bubbly personality and willingness to help anyone. She's counted on to help administer state-wide tests and tutor students in multiple subject areas. She impacts her campus far beyond the physical education department.
This school year, as we all faced challenges related to COVID-19, she has established the entire department curriculum. She helped create an entirely online-based curriculum that was adopted by not only her school's physical education department, but by the entire county.
Professionally, she adds so much value to her campus with her ability to inspire through her curriculum and instruction, but that's not her greatest asset to her school community. She is constantly sacrificing her own time to help students get caught up in other classes. She creates opportunities to tutor kids in multiple subjects, while not limiting her interaction with her other students. Mrs. Smith-Williams is mentoring and having an impact on not only her students, but every student she comes in contact with.
"Coach Kelly is a gift to our campus. She has impacted countless lives with who she is and how much she pours into her students," said Schiller. "She is a true LifeChanger and deserves to be recognized as such!
