Michelle Gamboa was nominated by her colleague and 2016-17 LifeChanger of the Year nominee, Pam Bethke.

Mrs. Gamboa always greets people with a smile on her face while she happily asks how she can assist. She does everything in her power to help everyone at Stony Point High School, from the 2600+ students and their parents, to administration and staff. Her dedication to her school is obvious because she completes numerous jobs and still finds time to ensure everyone else has what they need to educate students to the best of their ability.

For example, the school's FAC students use an outdoor sensory garden daily as a classroom. When the rain barrels dried up during the drought, Mrs. Gamboa helped her school secure water. It saved the sensory plants, and the students are enjoying the learning space. Another example of her generosity and commitment to students’ wellbeing can be seen when the 'Care Clawset' is in need of items such as deodorant or shoes. She helps get the word out and even donates items herself.

Mrs. Gamboa helped the Environmental Awareness club sponsor fill out the required district forms in order to get approval for a Monarch Way Station. The Monarch Way Station has been a great success, not only for the plight of the monarchs, but for the community as well. The gardens have become a sense of pride and belonging to many students. Additionally, the Monarch Waystation has been featured on several websites and a national magazines. Today, it has a vegetable garden that grows food for the school.

"Michelle Gamboa shows her joy for education in everything she does for us at Stony Point High School," Bethke said. "Her leadership and organizational skills to get things accomplished gives us all confidence that things will run smoothly on a daily basis. Michelle Gamboa positively touches the lives of many and makes our jobs better."

Michelle is the heart of Stony Point High School. She is always willing to help accommodate her coworkers in their work. She looks for solutions to assist others. I have seen countless peers come by her door every day looking for her to guide them in resolving their needs. As our Campus Secretary, she is the first person a new employee meets. She always greets everyone with a smile and friendly tone. She is very approachable and warm. She is the first person to arrange birthday celebrations to all in the front office. She always wants us to feel special and valued. She listens intently to our concerns and often puts a plan of action in place. She is highly regarded by all and a supreme joy to work with daily.

Michelle was part of the panel who interviewed me for my position seven years ago. From the moment I met her I knew I would enjoy working with her. I'm the campus bookkeeper and work across the hallway from Michelle. I see the situations she deals with on a daily basis. She's one of those people who makes the difficult look easy, because she handles all types of issues with quick thinking (often needed in a school environment), organizational skills and deals well with pressure situations while maintaining grace and a calm demeanor. She has a beautiful, bright smile for everyone and makes you feel welcome even when she's working under deadlines. It's a pleasure to work with Michelle every day, and she makes the entire Stony Point community a better place.

Michelle is truly a rock on our campus. Sacrifices her time well beyond and always does it with a smile. High schools have so many moving parts that having an elite administrative assistant is crucial to establishing and maintaining systems at their optimal capacity. Michelle does exactly that. She is irreplaceable and integral to what we are doing.

Michelle is a life saver. With the amount of work she has to do, I try not to visit her unless it is absolutely necessary, but even when I do she always has a solution to my issue and d\provides it with a smile on her face.

My sister, the veteran teacher, gave me three pieces of advice when I became a teacher. "Become friends with the principal's administrative assistant," Kim said, "Because individual will make your job easier or infinitely harder." I never truly understood what she meant until I to Stony Point High School eight years ago. Everything that Mrs. Bethke says about Michelle Gamboa is absolutely true. Mrs. Gamboa is always willing to help, always smiles as she greets us and is meticulous to her attention to detail. Her follow-through is outstanding. We have classroom clocks. We have the necessary classroom keys. Our demon photocopiers remain in working order despite the abuse heaped on them by frantic teachers. We have an incredibly knowledgeable person to ask when we don't know who to ask. These trivia may sound insignificant, but I assure you that they are not. Despite the demands of an active family life (husband and three active children, including a Stony Point senior who is also a varsity golf player), Michelle Gamboa always puts in the extra hours to make our special events run smoothly. She accommodates special dietary requests when a campus or faculty meeting includes food. In fact, our faculty and staff acknowledged her enormous impact on the smooth running of our school when we voted her the Support Staff Member of the Year for 2016. When I first came to Stony Point in 2010, I had no idea how right my sister was. Michelle Gamboa makes all our professional lives easier. It is true that there is no substitute for experience. The quality that distinguishes the true professional is the ability to make the complexities of a demanding job look easy. Michelle Gamboa is in every way the consummate professional. She is a Life Changer. Thank you for your time.

As a new teacher to Stony Point, my first acquaintance of Michele was from the phone conversations for my interview. From the very first conversation, I found Michele to be pleasant, knowledgeable and extremely accommodating to my every question and need. Michele exhibits a genuine interest in everyone and everything connected to Stony Point, and one would be hard pressed to find anyone with a higher level of dedication to one's craft. Although I have only known Michele for a short time, I see that her feeling of caring and dedication are sincerely genuine, and I wholeheartedly echo the tribute stated above.

Michelle is one of the kindest people I have ever met. She is as beautiful inside as she is on the outside. To say that she cares is a huge understatement...she always goes above and beyond for our campus and all the families here at SPHS. She is able to put herself in others shoes in order to relate to what they are going through and never has an unkind word to say about anyone. She is professional and always represents our campus in an outstanding way. Her giving of her time and efforts has become the norm at SPHS and she always volunteers to help others. She is a vital and integral part of our campus!!! Sincerely, Rose Trevathan

Michelle Gamboa manages to brighten up the day of everyone she meets. Her positive attitude and smile have brightened up my day more times than I can count. She is excellent at her job and makes sure that the school runs smoothly. And on top of that, she is always asking "How can I help?". She is definitely a "life changer" at out school.
