Equetta Jones was nominated by Kourtney Word, the parent of a student.

Without Ms. Jones, Highlands Elementary School would be a different place. Through all the changes over the years, Ms. Jones has stood firm with the three R's of her school: ready, responsible, and respectful. No matter what the concerns are, she is always willing to jump in and make sure things are handled the way they should be.

"My child has been at Highlands Elementary for three years," said Word. "Ms. Jones is a LifeChanger. I could write a book about the things she has done, not only for my family and I, but for other families and children. The children need her, and I'm glad we are stuck with her at Highlands Elementary. All schools needs a Ms. Jones. Children will grow successfully with her guidance and love. If there's any LifeChanger of the Year, it's Ms. Jones."

Ms. Jones is an exemplary administrator. She is genuine, caring, and nurturing, yet also possess a no-nonsense demeanor. Ms. Jones is and will continue to be an inspiration to many. In my time as an educator working with Ms. Jones, she has helped me grow professionally in a variety of ways. She recognizes my positive attributes and hard work as an educator, but is also always guiding and encouraging me. She challenges me to continue to be the best that I can be, not only for myself, but most importantly for our Highlands community. Ms. Jones is a natural educator and that does not always translate into becoming an effective and natural administrator. However, Ms. Jones is the pinnacle of administrators. She takes on any role with enthusiasm and gives it her all!

I am a principal in Michigan. I have had the pleasure of working with Equetta through the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). We have done several webinars together. I not only have learned a lot from Equetta, I have also been impacted by the positive energy she brings to her work every moment that we have had working together. It is something to behold. She exudes a vibe that blesses those who work with her and, I would like to add, it is contagious. She changes the atmosphere of any room she enters.

Ms. Jones is a dedicated educator. I have the honor of knowing her for several years as a parent to one of my former students and a member of The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa. The members of this organization are esteemed educators of all levels and types and we are very proud of her attributes to children and the community. During this difficult time in education, Equetta gives grace, empathy, and problem-solving support to her staff and students. She is respected and loved by all and this nomination is well-deserved and a testament to her deeds

I have had the honor of working with Equetta for nearly two decades and I truly believe that to call her a life changer is an understatement. Watching this young lady mature and grow was a testimonial to impact, something which she had everywhere that she served. She had a habit of not only learning and growing but of bringing out the very best in her peers. It is an infectious attitude of caring and doing the best you can each and every day to serve. It can be hard to imagine sometimes that within this small frame lies enough energy to keep her positivity flowing from dawn till dusk but also boundless levels of caring and love. Every life that touches Equetta is left better for having done so, including my own. Well done my dear and well deserved.

How does one define a life changer, well Ms. Jones is the personification of that term. She is outgoing, full of energy and positive even when times are tough. Whether she is out with students teaching them about real world issues or in school focused on academics; she demonstrates what it means to be a selfless student-centered leader. Always giving of herself-before, during and after school hours. She goes above and beyond for anyone and everyone who crosses her path. One thing you should know is that if you need her, she will undoubtedly be there! I learned so much from Ms. Jones. I consider her not just a colleague, former administrator or friend-but most importantly a mentor. Someone you can trust. Students who refuse to open up and trust anyone are willing to confide in Ms. Jones. They know she will genuinely show up for them no matter the time of day or night. She is a true hero who wears an infectious smile as her cape.

I couldn’t agree more! Ms. Jones is the perfect example of a servant-leader. She works tirelessly for families in her school and community. While she is an outstanding principal, it’s her caring nature and ability to make sure that everyone feels valued and respected, especially our most vulnerable children that makes her most deserving of this recognition.

Ms. Jones? A Life Changer? Without a single, solitary doubt! She is never without a kind word, smile, hug, or a song for those she meets, child or adult. Her generous nature and strong spirit have touched so very many lives and, knowing Equetta, she has only barely begun.

Its ALL great things to say about Mrs.Jones such as her understanding, her god graceful spirit but what sticks out the most for me was the understanding and the communication with my son she dealt with him in a way he understood and was compliant with no hestitation when mrs.jones asked!

I dont have any children at highland, but my neice has a daughter. Nothing but great things to say about Ms Jones. She is sort of a pied piper of children - the end result is how to be - better, best. She loves them and they love her. It's a special gift to be able to nurture and teach children. I know Ms Jones personally, and she is the type of person who goes out of her way to make it happen; even at sometimes her own detriment. Yes My vote is for Ms. Equetta Jones for National Life Changer of the Year!!!!
