Music that Describes Riva

Riva Alexander was nominated by her colleague, Robert Dorsey.

Ms. Alexander is a teacher who has qualities that all teachers should strive for.  She teaches in a low-income, underprivileged area. She creates bonds with her students that are long-lasting and genuine.

Ms. Alexander has helped out many students on a personal level.  She creates a fantastic, calm learning environment where students learn. At the same time, her classroom is a safe environment, with students trained to police themselves and to appreciate the calm. They may not get any of this at other times of the day.

"She has never asked for any recognition for what she does, because it is what she does anyway," said Dorsey. "For her, she's not going above and beyond. She's just being Riva."

I am so excited that Riva has been nominated for the Lifechanger of the Year award. She is very deserving of this because she truly cares about her students in and out of the classroom. She works hard everyday and is always looking for ways to give her students the best possible education through curriculum and real life skills. She is not only a teacher but a friend that the students look up too and many contact her even after graduating for support or advice. Since the school has been online this year during Covid, it has been difficult for many students, especially because she works at a title one school and her students live in a low income and under privileged area which has made this year even more difficult for them. This award would help her tremendously to help them succeed. Congratulations Riva and Good Luck - well deserved!
