Maria Reyes was nominated by her colleague, Cierra Montgomery.
Ms. Reyes personifies and embodies the definition of a LifeChanger! She is a fairly new teacher at her school, yet she has built a rapport with the students, and she has definitely made a difference in their lives!
When COVID-19 hit, it required the school system to adapt to new policies that would allow the students to continue to gain a great education. Ms. Reyes was asked to step up to the plate. She not only taught her regular Business English 9 classes, but she also sacrificed her professional planning period and took on the responsibility of monitoring 75 virtual students' accounts. In addition to preparing, teaching, and grading assignments for three in-person classes of students, she also had to monitor grades and actively watch virtual students take every exam. It wasn't easy by any means, but she definitely made it look easy! She showed true professionalism, poise, and dedication. She went above and beyond to help her students succeed.
Ms. Reyes always has a smile, an uplifting word, and a positive disposition and attitude, especially to begin the day. Even under her face mask, you can always tell that she's smiling.
"Maria has proven herself to be a leader over the past year and a half that I have known her," said Montgomery. "She is well-organized, friendly, and willing to help anyone. She has provided a loving, nurturing atmosphere in her classroom and with the virtual students she serves."
