Music that Describes Lindsay
Lindsay Haycock was nominated by a colleague, Trienere Powell.
"Ms. Haycock is a very compassionate person who absolutely loves her job," Powell said. "I have had the pleasure of seeing her grow as a special education teacher for the last three years and a special education coordinator during the 2020-2021 school year. She is a truly wonderful, magnificent educator who strives to deliver the best quality of education to her students. She displays an exceptional amount of grit and accepts extra work to expedite her learning and development. Ms. Haycock was also willing to enhance her abilities by organizing school activities, in addition to handling different school committees such as our annual Autism Awareness Month Lemonade Sale. Proceeds support outings, a special lunch, and school supplies for her students."
Ms. Haycock also has an outstanding rapport with her students and colleagues. She always presents information in an engaging, creative manner. She also shows proficiency by using a variety of media and integrating the use of technology for the best effect. As a member of the teaching staff, she is always a delight to talk to. Her contributions to the staff, both socially and professionally, will always be appreciated.
Lindsay has been a very caring person since about second grade. She was always there to lend a helping hand and make a difference She was in Girl Scouts, was active in church and then with the help of an internship in high school found that she had a passion for helping students. Through a church program called Young Neighbors In Action, Lindsay spent a week helping students with disabilities. All she could talk about after that week was the kids she worked with. She was hooked. Lindsay went to Central Michigan University were she received a bachelor degree in special education and a minor in child development. She was President of the education department. Worked in a child care facility close to the campus. Then she got her job at Advanced Technology Academy. She has been a special education teacher with ATA and is currently assistant director of the special education department. She went back for her master’s degree in literacy. While she has been at ATA she has planned reading months and was one of three teachers that developed a “house” program to bring students and staff together to work on team building activities. She has the respect of her students, parents, staff and administrators. She was nominated for teacher of the year and made it into the top ten candidates. It has been incredible to see the bond she has with her students and more importantly to hear of their progress over the past 6 years. She has been working on line with her students this year. She put together back to school packets and sent packages just before the winter break to each of them. She decorated each envelope specifically for each student. Inside was some pages they could color and learn about how Christmas was celebrated in different countries along with some other little surprises. While she was leaving the post office after dropping off the envelopes she was approached by a woman. She had seen the envelopes and what Lindsay had done. The woman asked Lindsay if she was a teacher. When Lindsay replied yes, the woman made a comment about how lucky her students were. That is Lindsay. Caring, compassionate, encourages her students to try and do their best. She treats them with respect and expects them to be respectful. She is there is if they a hug, a break and even that one on one time to help them get through the day. She has made a difference and continues to work hard to help others.
Lindsay’s compassion and desire to help others was evident from an early age. It came as no surprise when she chose to be a special education teacher. She absolutely loves teaching, advocating for her students, and supporting education professionals.

Ms. Haycock is an exceptional teacher who goes above and beyond for her students. Her compassion is unyielding and every student she encounters flock to her as a source of support and companionship. She consistently utilizes engaging activities that incorporate classroom curriculum to help build the students’ skills and that encourage them to continue learning outside of the school environment. Ms. Haycock is a model for maintaining confidentiality to protect the students’ integrity who receive special education services. She demonstrates integrity when communicating with fellow support staff and when advocating for student needs. As her colleague, she has been a phenomenal person to collaborate with and I have learned so much from her as an educator. The methods of teaching and kindness she exhibits when working with students are tools I have adopted to become a better clinician in my own practices. It has been an honor to work with her and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of recognition for this award than Ms. Haycock.
Lindsay Haycock is truly a remarkable educator! She faithfully serves in her role, and she routinely goes above and beyond. She mentors other teachers and her door is always open to her colleagues. She trains other educators on implementing and carrying out centers in their classrooms. She lends out her own supplies to other teachers too. Additionally, there is nothing she wouldn’t do for the students. She cultivates positive personal relationships with the students and spearheads many programs to improve their academic experiences. She coordinated a new “house” program to foster growth of personal relationships between staff and students, and to promote a stronger sense of inclusion at the school. The school would not be the same without her dynamic influence and passionate dedication!
