Music that Describes Ashley

Ashley Davies was nominated by Kim Skidmore, who is her colleague and the grandparent of a student.

Vinton Elementary School is located in a very rural area of southeastern Ohio, with a poverty level of over 22 percent.  Students have to deal with so much in their lives, and school is a secondary concern for a great deal of the families. Ms. Davies strives to make education a priority to every family while accounting for everything today's children must endure. She has put her school and students above everything.  Even while her mother, who is an aide at the same school, struggled with cancer, Ms. Davies never lost her positive, professional attitude.  She is eager to take on extra responsibilities at her school, and she will do anything necessary to make school a positive atmosphere for the students.  The decorations in her classroom have become something that everyone in the school wants to see because they are always innovative and original.

"On a personal note, my grandson was a student in Ashley's classroom," said Skidmore. "We had been so concerned about him prior to having Ashley as a teacher.  He seemed to have no interest in school, and every day was a struggle for him.  Ashley was able to turn that around and redeemed his love of learning.  He is now an eighth grader and a member of the Honor Society.  I truly believe we would have lost him had it not been for Ashley and her love of teaching.  I can not think of anyone better who deserves the title of LifeChanger."

Ashley was my teacher over 10 years ago. She has taught me so much and helped me become a better person. She was by far the most amazing teacher . She has the personality that everyone loved. We could always go to her when something was wrong or needed help and she would take the time and fix what was happening! She deserves this! My favorite teacher I’ve had my whole 13 years of school!

As a parent of a child with a disability, it is very important to me to surround him with caring, thoughtful, dedicated and patient people. Ashley Davies has all those characteristics and more. She was my sons teachers at Vinton Elementary who believed in him, included him, and always looked at his abilities rather than his disabilities. He is now a Sophmore in High School and every time he sees her, there’s a huge smile on his face. She was a positive person that made a significant impact in his life! She is very deserving of this title. Thank you.
