Suzanne Barr was nominated by Caitlin Andrews, a former student.

"Ms. Barr has a huge impact on every student that walks through her classroom door. She goes above and beyond for all of her students," said Andrews. "Ms. Barr is one of the most passionate educators and mentors I have ever had the honor of having at Hampton High School. She not only helps you unlock a creative side of you that you never knew you had, but she cares deeply about the well-being of each and every student. She has taught me and many others that took her classes so much more than art. Ms. Barr taught us life lessons that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives."

"Her classroom was always a safe environment where anyone could show their true colors. She is the kind of person I hope a lot of people turn out to be like, including myself," said Andrews. "The world would be a better place if there were more people and educators like her. Her class is one of the only classes I would be happy to return to high school to have again. She does a lot for her students, from helping them raise money for Senior prom, to hosting the annual Senior Yard Sale, to helping with organizing the prom. She's also in charge of the blood drives that Hampton has a few times during the school year, so she's not only changing the lives of students, but helping to save lives everywhere."

Suzanne Barr relates to students no other teacher can. She builds bonds that last a lifetime and encourages skills beyond those required in Art. Her personality allows her to identify talent. Students will address issues in her class that most will not approach even in a therapeutic setting. She genuinely cares for, identifies with, and enthusiastically promotes the talent and individuality of each student. As School Counselor, I can rely on her to be the "campion of the underdog" and the "cultivator of the arts". She has often assisted me by providing insight into a student's home life and background thus allowing me to better serve the student's mental, emotional, and educational needs. She is truly a "team player" and works for the students of Hampton High School with all of her heart and soul.

Mrs Barr is a wonderful lady who lets every student express themselves through their art. She encourages no matter their ability level and truly cares for her students. I was blessed to call her a teacher/coach and now am employed in the same school system as she is. She’s a wonderful asset to the community.
