LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Michelle Acks was nominated by her colleague, Brittany Cates.

Ms. Acks is a LifeChanger in her school. She has proven to make a instrumental difference in her students' lives by always going above and beyond for them. She is the first to come up with a solution to a problem, and she's a safe space for students who need a listening ear. Ms. Acks always is smiling and laughing, and she knows how to bring others' spirits up. She shows up with a positive, go-getter attitude which is infectious and brings the school's atmosphere into a brighter light. She has demonstrated leadership by taking over planning for SEL (social-emotional learning). Ms. Acks takes the state-approved standards and breaks them down into fun, easy ways for teachers to use her lessons and incorporate them into their everyday teaching. She has taken on this leadership role and made a huge impact on the overall climate of her building. Ms. Acks has shown time and time again that she is an highly effective, motivated teacher who always brings grace and kindness when working with others. 

Ms. Acks is able to walk into any situation and hear what everyone has to say while providing useful feedback. She creates an atmosphere where others feel welcome and able to share their thoughts with someone who is willing to truly listen. She has always come into work with high moral and ethical standards. Ms. Acks not only holds others to these standards, but leads by example. She takes the time to get to know every student on a personal level and looks at every situation differently.
