Position: AP Statistics & Algebra I Teacher
School: Fargo North High School
School District: Fargo Public Schools
City, State: Fargo, ND
Keith Lehman was nominated by an anonymous former student.
Mr. Lehman is known around Fargo North High School as one of the most passionate, caring, and empathetic teachers to have ever walked the halls. He is willing to put in every effort possible to help his students fully succeed in their academic goals. Mr. Lehman is almost always the first person in school every morning and the last person to leave the building. His dedication for teaching underclassmen is no less than his dedication for teaching his upper level and Advanced Placement students. He is always willing to put in the work to advocate for every student and make sure they understand the material. He always pushes kids to be the best students and people that they could possibly be, and he's definitely one of the best role models.
Mr. Lehman does everything he can to help students succeed, not only academically, but in terms of their general well-being. During these very difficult times, Mr. Lehman has advocated for the mental and physical health and wellbeing of his students. He checks up on students and is extremely empathetic. Rather than scold a student for turning in a small homework assignment late, he will check in with them, make sure they are doing alright, and help them with the class material. He is an adult who most of the kids in the school would feel totally comfortable going to for just about any issue they have.
Mr. Lehman is also extremely involved throughout the Fargo Public Schools community. Whether he's coaching cross country and track, serving on countless different committees, or being an active part in the community, Mr. Lehman is sure to always do his best to get involved. He attends almost every concert, musical, play, sporting event, or any other student activity to show his support.
All of this earned Mr. Lehman Fargo North's Teacher of the Year Award last year. This is a very large honor, but it is especially significant because Mr. Lehman has been teaching for less than five years. For such a young teacher to win such a high honor speaks to his amazing personality and the amount of dedication he has for his job.
"When I heard of this award, I thought of no one more deserving than Mr. Lehman himself. I hope he is seriously considered for this," said the nominator. "It would mean the world, not only to him, but to our entire community."
