Karen Perepezko was nominated by an anonymous colleague.
"We couldn’t do it without her!" said Ms. Perepezko's nominator. "Having problems with smart boards, laptops, tablets, WiFi, projectors, or Zoom meetings? Call Karen and she will fix it! If she has never faced a certain problem, that won’t stop her. She will research until she finds a solution. Her can-do attitude is an incredible example for our students to never give up."
When her school was forced to switch to remote learning in March, Ms. Perepezko's responsibilities seemed to skyrocket. She was available to teachers and staff all day - texting, calling, meeting outdoors with socially distant coworkers to talk them through situations, holding Zoom meetings, and more. She was always there to help. Once the online classes got going, she also started attending webinars to learn as much as possible about this crazy new world of teaching. She has helped countless staff members create their home pages and online classrooms.
Ms. Perepezko has also helped many coworkers who are intimidated by technology become comfortable. More than that, she was concerned about the wellbeing of students. She reached out to the administration to ask if she could create online “snack&chat” meets so students could spend time with classmates. Ms. Perepezko also asked if she could continue meeting with the students in her after school clubs every week! She feared that they wouldn’t have the social interactions that are so important. She was involved in numerous “teacher parades” that lifted the spirits of so many in her school community.
"As the school year wound down and we were getting ready for a well-deserved rest, Karen was once again thinking about the students' well-being," her nominator said. "She joined one of our teachers to create an online summer camp! She was not only running the necessary technology for Camp Lockwood, but she was meeting with students throughout the week, playing games, painting rocks, making videos and crafting!"
"We have gone back to school in a hybrid situation, with some students being remote and some attending class in-person," said her nominator. "She makes sure all of our students have the technology they need. Karen has helped create our new dismissal procedure using the available technology mostly on her own time. She is truly an asset to our school community, and she makes a huge difference every day!"

This award could not be given to a more deserving individual than Karen Perepezko. She has the patience of a saint when it comes to technology and anything associated with teaching it! She is a beautiful person, inside and out, and will always help you with a "sure!" and a smile. Her work ethic is unparalleled, and she makes our school technologically amazing! If you have a problem, she will drop everything and help you until it is fixed. She never gives up! We are all so fortunate to know Karen and have her working here at Signal Hill. I am truly blessed and privileged to call her my friend. Love you, Karen!

Karen is always happy and helpful. She is such a team player and is always willing to help anyone out. She is very knowledgable and when she doesn't know she makes sure to find out the answers.
Karen is a consummate professional. Her work ethic and knowledge of the technology world makes our school work. Karen is well deserved of this award. These are difficult times and she is helping us all get through it.
Karen is an amazing teacher, person and friend. She adds so much positive energy to Signal Hill. Karen is the most selfless person I know. She puts everyone's needs and wishes before her own. When Signal Hill closed last year, Karen was by my side through all my technical difficulties. When I needed her she was there morning, noon and night. Karen goes above and beyond to make sure all students, teachers, and parents feel at ease using technology. Signal Hill is is very lucky to have her!!!
Karen is the best! She is patient and kind and always goes above and beyond to help! She has a way of explaining things to the staff and the students that helps us understand. She is always willing to find new says to help specific students and she shares her knowledge openly. She is also a great listener and a good friend!
Karen is incredible! She is a kind human that goes out of way to help others. She has a smile on her face and brightens up the halls of Signal Hill. Half Hollow Hills is fortunate to have her working for them and Signal Hill especially benefits from her expertise! She is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure people, young and old, are learning in her presence. I enjoy Karen's smart sense of humor and love to exchange stories with her throughout the year. She is truly one of a kind!!!
Karen is a kind, warm hearted person who is ALWAYS willing to help. She puts the needs of the children in our school above her own. Her goal is to make each student successful in this new world of remote learning. She is an asset to students, parents, teachers and administration. We are truly blessed to have her!
When COVID hit and everyone across the board was forced to learn this "new normal" we're in, I got to watch my mom first-hand tackle every problem that came her way. The level of thought, care, and patience she's had, not only to learn everything she had to know herself, but to then be on call 24/7 to help out her colleagues, is unmatched. I know how important it is to have someone like her on any staff in any field, and her efforts have made countless lives so much easier in a very difficult time. And on top of all of this, she can STILL be the best mom her family could ever ask for. What can't she do?
From the day that I joined the Signal Hill Family, Karen has gone out of her way to be kind, welcoming, and helpful. On countless occasions I have seen her stop in her tracks to lend a hand to a staff member or student in need. Always ready with a smile, a spare moment to trouble-shoot a technology question, and a kind word, she is an integral member of our community. Her kindness and professionalism extends beyond her role, caring about school spirit, students well-being, and going above and beyond to ensure that others around her are successful. Simply put, she lifts others up. Without a doubt, Karen is a life changer.
Karen is the BEST! She is always willing to help others and be a team player. Her generosity extends not only to her colleagues but to the support she gives to the students and parents of the Signal Hill community. On countless occasions, she has without question dropped what she was doing to help myself or others. We are so lucky to have her as a part of the Signal Hill family. Karen's ability to lift others up and put others before herself absolutely qualifies her as a life changer of the year!
What would we do without our wonderful, thoughtful and extremely knowledgeable Mrs. P? Karen is always there to help anyone out in a jam, save the day, or teach an old dog a new trick or two. I personally rely on Karen for many things, sometimes multiple times a day. Karen never disappoints and has even arrived early to help me out, now thats dedication!! She is chock full of knowledge, wisdom, humor and kindness. Our building is very lucky to have her and I consider myself extremely lucky to call her my friend. She definitely has earned the title LIFE CHANGER for all she does everyday!
I highly recommend Karen for this award! She is always there to offer assistance whether speaking to me over the phone or stopping by to help me in person. Karen takes time out of her day to answer any questions I might have. She willingly shows me how to do something or will walk me through the steps to accomplish what I need.
Karen is truly supportive. I can rely on her during the school day, after hours or when school is not in session. Whether it has been remote teaching or in the building, Karen is someone I can reach out to. She goes over and above to help me feel comfortable with what I need to do or to remedy any problem I may have. Karen makes me feel better ASAP by addressing those challenges I am facing. It is reassuring to know that someone like Karen is available who can be counted on.
She is patient and kind with the children Karen interacts with as well. The students look forward to her visiting the classroom, and she is understanding of their needs.

Karen is basically Superwoman!!!! She helps EVERYONE in the school and no issue is too big or something she doesn't find an answer to. She is one of the most positive people I have ever had the pleasure of working with and we are truly a better functioning school thanks in large part because of her!!! I am a huge fan of Karen's and think of her as an amazing friend!!
Karen has changed many lives throughout the years. All in positive ways. She goes above and beyond whenever the slightest task is asked of her. She is always smiling and trying to make school a better place. I’m lucky to work with her and proud to call her my friend.
Karen is hard working, dedicated, and talented. I truly admire her! She has a positive attitude and is adept at teaching and supporting both students and teachers. We can always count on her to solve problems with ease. We are very fortunate to have her on our "team." Over the years, I have always appreciated all that Karen does to keep us afloat. Karen is simply one of the best people that I have had the pleasure to know. She goes above and beyond the responsibilities required for her position. Karen is ALWAYS available to teach and guide us through the world of technology. She spends hours of her personal time to learn more about the programs that the children will be using, to ensure that she can train the staff. I have emailed and texted Karen during the summer months and on weekends. Her response has always been one of mentorship and never have I felt as if I were a bother. If Karen doesn’t know the answer, you can bet that she won’t stop until she figures it out. The children love Mrs. Perepezko and have learned so much from her as an educator and as a warm and loving person. Karen has a huge heart, works so hard, and is a gift to our school.
Karen is my life changer! She has a positive attitude and is willing to problem solve any issue with a smile and out-of-the-box thinking. One of Karen's great strengths is she is always considering things from a teacher's point of view and understands how important it is, especially this year, to support teachers with technology that works smoothly and simply. She is definitely our life changer of the year!
