Khayree Bey was nominated by his colleague, Shana Bacon.
Mr. Bey is a LifeChanger because he is exactly that: a LifeChanger. He implemented a mindfulness class at his urban middle school. His program was initially met with resistance, but he pushed forward. Today, his class has helped young black men learn to cope with the hardships in their lives by stepping back and going into meditation.
"As a high school health teacher, I receive students that go through his class," said Bacon. "I can tell when a student had Mr. Bey because they do not react to situations as most students would. He's a surrogate parent to a lot of the boys. There aren't many men who the students can look up to, and Mr. Bey is a wonderful role model."
