Sarah Hall was nominated by her colleague, Melissa Pappas.
Ms. Hall is an inspirational, passionate, innovative educator who significantly and positively impacts the lives of her students, their families, her peers, and her community. She was selected as the 2020 Seminole County Public Schools Teacher of the Year, and she has been rated "highly effective" for each of her 17 years of teaching. Her many accomplishments include creating and hosting Roaring Readers: How to Train Your Cub, a school wide caregiver support group to help build early literacy skills in the students' homes. Families met with teachers to get information, build community, create Make and Take materials, have free childcare, get free dinner and books. She also hosted a free community event, Read with a Hero Day, where children had the opportunity to be read to with their families by first responders and other community heroes, including local celebrities and elected officials. At the event, children were given free books and connected with local law enforcement in a positive way. There have been two such events so far, and they continue to positively impact the community.
Ms. Hall has been called upon regularly to provide input at the district and state levels regarding decision-making within education. Most recently, she was recognized at the state and national levels for being an educational leader in digital learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was featured on a local news outlet for providing social and emotional resources to parents to help support their children during COVID-19 and digital learning.
Additionally, Ms. Hall coordinated and co-hosted a four-day professional development webinar entitled "Culturally Responsive Conversations for Educators and Caregivers Conference." The webinar had attendees from 20 states and featured 16 panelists, including the 2020 Florida Teacher of the Year. The conversations of focus during the webinar included equity and equality within education. They were aimed at increasing educator awareness surrounding diverse populations to ensure classrooms are inclusive and informed, and to allow teachers to better advocate for their students and their families.

"She is an excellent example of a lifelong learner, and she's always open to incorporating new ideas and strategies to benefit her students. Her vibrant, uplifting personality not only makes her someone that her students trust and look up to, but that her community continuously recognizes as someone they can trust for relevant, considerate input on various matters. She is a true inspiration within the educational field, and her dedication impacts the future for so many. She truly embodies the term, 'LifeChanger.'"

I have known Sarah for only a year and my whole family knows her by name! She truly has motivated and inspired me to be the best teacher I can be for my students in my future classroom. She radiates positivity and brightens up everyone’s day when she is around. I know in our community she stands above most in lending a helping hand out to her colleagues and future colleagues. She supports the local University and provides multiple opportunities for students to learn from her throughout the year. She truly has changed my life and I know the lives of many others! What I lack in length of time in knowing Sarah, she makes up for in quality. I have never met someone so dedicated to the growth and development of both her fellow teachers AND students. Sarah is a solution-based leader, constantly thinking of ways she can improve her classroom community, her school, and her teaching community not only statewide, but nationwide. Sarah not only sets high goals and expectations for herself; she achieves them - something hard to follow through on in a position where time seems to be the thing we constantly need more of. She truly a ray of light and hope as professional colleague, and her greatness shines through even outside of school as a friend. I can think of no other teacher more deserving of this award at her experience level than Sarah.

Sarah is an outstanding individual! I had the privilege of working with her several years ago and saw first hand her professionalism, innovative teaching and her compassion for her students. A great example that comes to mind is that one of her students, who was in a difficult situation, living at a shelter, wanted to meet the news anchor, Vanessa Echols. Sarah made it happen. The student was so thrilled and I believe it was a life changing experience for this young girl. It is an honor to call her a colleague and a friend!

Sarah Hall was my son’s kindergarteners teacher and she new he needed special attention when it came to the bathroom in the classroom. It was very loud and he was afraid of it and she showed him extra care. I never saw her without a smile and I volunteered in the class weekly so I was able to see how wonderful she was with the students, even giving a child a handful of cereal when a guardian forgot to feed her.

I had the pleasure of working with Sarah teaching Kindergarten. She always had such a big heart for those kids and was always very involved in planning and implementing curriculum. Sarah made teaching (And learning) fun and I miss those days of working with her!

Sarah Hall is a true leader & life changer in every sense imaginable! As the mayor in Longwood, but more importantly as a father of a six-year-old special-needs boy, I can’t even begin to describe the litany of programs in outreach projects that I have collaborated alongside Sara Hall with. My favorite though, was when she shared with me how much reading comprehension our children lose over the course of a summer, and with that the next week putting together “read with a hero” event at our citiy’s Reiter Park! During the summer, we had a fire fighter, police officer, military veteran, myself, and of course the star of the show Sarah Hall read our favorite children’s story to a group of our Longwood children that also got sent home with a free book from Scholastic books America. Again this is probably just one of at least 20 events she has come to me and wanted to put on for R. City. She doesn’t get paid anything for that! She gets no extra attention for that! She does it because she’s all about improving others lives! And she doesn’t wait around, if she makes things happen and there’s a big difference. It is always fun for me to watch Sarah in action. She can work on many levels at the same time. She can give her undivided attention to a student, stop to explain to another educator what she is doing and why, and then translate the theory and practice for us lay folk who do not have educator backgrounds.
