Thirty-eight years ago, Ms. Miller began endearing herself to students, parents, and colleagues. She has never stopped. She approaches her teaching with a kind, caring, and generous spirit that leaves her students with a love of learning. Her high expectations push her students to be the best versions of themselves.
As a special education teacher, she works to instill a love of learning to those who may not find learning effortless. She makes her students feel safe and supported as she nourishes their love of learning. Her encouraging manner shows her students that she is invested in their lives.
Ms. Miller approaches her relationships with colleagues in the same way. She offers advice, kind words, smiles, surprises, and an encouraging spirit. She will supply baked goods, candy, and words of encouragement for the workroom, often without recognition. Her willingness to mentor and counsel her coworkers adds a level of solace to all who seek her out for wisdom. Collaboration and cooperation are her priorities.
When she isn't teaching, Ms. Miller is actively involved in the local, county, and state education associations, holding offices and roles too numerous to mention. She works to produce valuable professional development and extensive seminars that assist her fellow educators in helping them achieve greatness. Countless hours of her time have been donated to making lives of those around her better.
"It was Betty's plan to retire in June of this year. Unexpectedly, she needed to take a leave in November to care for her son," said Miller's nominator. "She approached this challenge with the same dedication and care that she has shown to her students over the years. She tackles challenges with a particular optimism that shows you she will conquer any issue with love and caring. It has been said that teaching is making a difference in the life of a child. Betty has made a difference in all of our lives and has left an imprint that will never be erased. She deserves all life has to offer and more."

Betty not only made a commitment to her students but her coworkers as well. She always advocated for her students and put their needs first. She was willing to help staff whenever they needed. She has impacted countless lives, and she will be missed!
I can't think of a better candidate than Betty Ann Miller for this award. She truly is a Life Changer! I have had the pleasure of being one of Betty Ann's colleagues for the past eighteen years. Betty Ann's dedication to her students and effort she put towards her positions in the Teachers Associations was phenomenal. She demonstrated a strong work ethic to both her students and colleagues. Betty Ann's warm smile, positive attitude and support will surely be missed at the Northfield Community School for years to come!
I have known Betty for many years now. I will miss seeing her welcoming smile in the hallways. This is the same smile she has offered the students at Northfield Community School as she greeted them with hugs and care and true concern over their growth and potential. Betty, when asked, was always willing to offer a helping hand and I have been on the receiving side of her kindness. She was a leader, a devoted teacher, a wonderful peer, and one who truly deserves to be recognized as she retires from the life she has lived and loved for over the last 38 years!
Mrs. Miller is a wonder person and teacher. She took wonderful care of my son John Jennetta several years ago. She was kind, caring, and compassionate. God Bless you Mrs. Miller??
Mrs. Betty Ann Miller is a wonderfully caring teacher, who has always focused on the best in her students and colleagues. Her expectations are high and every child she has taught is all the better for having Mrs. Miller in their lives. Congratulations, Betty Ann !!
I have known Betty for over 25 years as a coworker, union advocate and friend. Her dedication to her profession is endless. She is one of the most creative teachers I have ever known. She always goes that extra mile to make a difference for her students. She has also spent countless hours advocating for all school employees on a local, county and state level. She is a teacher who loves her profession, and it shows. She has touched all of us, staff & students, during her many years. She will be missed.
I do not even know where to start— Mrs. miller was my teacher. During that time she taught me to read, write, and be a student. I went on to learn and teach a second language and earn my masters in special education. Later my son had the pleasure of Mrs Miller as his teacher. She has truly changed my (my son’s) life. She embodies the phrase: “Making the world a better place!”
Betty has made an amazing impact on my teaching career for the past ten years as a mentor, roommate and friend. She has made a huge impact on hundreds of lives including mine. Everyone will miss her!
I had the privilege of working with Betty Ann for over 20 years in the Northfield School system. She was always an advocate, mentor and friend to her students. Betty Ann never complained and always had a smile and kind word for everyone. Anyone that knows Betty Ann surely counts her as a blessing in their life.
I was lucky enough to have been an aide in Betty’s classroom. She is a true inspiration. Her love of teaching is evident in every subject she teaches. In that short year we became more than colleagues , we became friends. She taught me more than she will ever know! She truly is an amazing teacher.
Betty has touched the lives of so many children in her 38 years of teaching lest we forget the 38 years of colleagues that have been so fortunate to learn and grow professionally and personally from her mentoring, support, advice and friendship. Betty Miller is a life changer!
I had the pleasure of assisting Betty in her classroom for several years. She was always ready and organized for whatever the day and her students needed. She taught with consistent discipline that brought order to her class. She taught with love. She followed former students years after they had left her class. She did all of this while still thinking of family and friends. This year has been a challenge for her. As always this woman I now call my friend, has made it through, showing love and support along the way. She has been and will be a life changer!
I have known Betty Miller since our freshman year of high school. She has always been a gentle and caring person. Although we don't see each other these days I know she is still deeply involved with the children in our community. I love sharing her Facebook posts that help parents and other teachers with home schooling. I'm sure that everything that Betty does is a life changer for someone. Thank you Elizabeth Higgins Miller!

I had the privilege of co-teaching with Betty. She was so helpful in educating the student AND ME! She shared her love of teaching with the students and inspired them to push themselves. When I had some issues with my own Autistic child, Betty took time to reach out to her and help her to feel better about her situation. She has a way about her. Her parenting bleeds through to her educating and bleeds through to her living. She treats all the way humans should be treated. She is a life changer!

I know Betty from her dedication to NJEA, where once again, she worked endlessly & tirelessly for many years to support members and advance public education for all.
Personally, when I was the chairperson for the 30th Anniversary Gala for Salem County Habitat for Humanity, I asked Betty to help to design & prepare the centerpieces for the event. She & her hubby created the most beautiful table decor & spared nothing. People still reminisce about that event & the decor! Then BETTY would not allow us to reimburse her for the expenses! She is one of the kindest, most generous, talented, creative & thoughtful human beings I know!!!!
