Music that Describes Beryl
Beryl Bailey was nominated by her colleague, Roni Drew.
Trying to sum up everything Ms. Bailey has done for the P.S. 195Q and Queens community is a very hard task. For over 25 years, she has been a devoted member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., where she has committed her life to service for all mankind. She has definitely achieved that goal.
She started her career in education as a teacher in a private school. Then, she moved onto the public school system as a teacher in South Jamaica, Queens. She worked as a fourth grade teacher, showing black youth that they could be successful, no matter what their circumstances were. She worked to make sure all standardized test scores for her students were on grade level or above, no matter what level they came into her class on. As she moved up in her career in that same community, she worked as a staff developer, helping and training teachers to develop and enhance curriculum to address all students' needs and diverse backgrounds.
Ms. Bailey became a principal of P.S. 195Q, and she has served in this role for the past 18 years. She has wholeheartedly made it her mission to not only provide the best educational environment for students, but to address any and all social-emotional needs the children may have. She has put people and systems in place to help families in need. No student in her building is ever denied access to school trips for financial strains; she covers all costs. Every student in the building receives small gifts during the holiday season to brighten their spirits. Parents of graduating students who are struggling financially are assisted in the purchase of prom and graduation attire, often out of her own pocket. The school culture she has established in the building has inspired many other staff members to offer their time and support to children and families in the community, as well.
Ms. Bailey's leadership skills are evident in the various district programs she has been a part of and worked with, including LPP, or, the Learning Partners Program. During her time in this program, she was a mentor for a new middle school principal. She worked with him and his staff in developing the school culture and academic success in his building because of her proven success in her school. While she was in LPP, she was also focused on developing initiatives in her own building to address racial inequalities and diversity in education. She facilitated many open forum discussions with staff, developed Professional Learning Communities, and had her whole staff trained in Restorative Circles to help address issues and develop effective ways to communicate with each other and their students.
Her main goal as a building leader was to develop her staff into a family, and she accomplished that. Teachers and staff at P.S. 195Q, have an incredible camaraderie. Their priority is working collaboratively to achieve academic success for the students and make their school a safe haven for all to feel comfortable.
This is Ms. Bailey's last year, and it was extremely disheartening that a woman who gave her all to her building and career in education, would be denied the appropriate celebrations of all her accomplishments. In true Ms. Bailey spirit, all she worried about was the children. Her main disappointment was the fact that kids would miss out on all the wonderful year-end events and activities she had planned for them. She came up with an idea of virtual celebrations for every grade of students, as well as a special week-long celebration for the graduating 5th grade seniors. All students are allotted the opportunity to drive up to the school and take pictures in front of the building with a graduation banner and various floral decorations. Senior Treat Bags were made and distributed to all seniors. Additionally, there is a graduation parade being held with a special awards ceremony in front of the building, where community leaders are able to award academic success in select students, as well as a presentation to the valedictorian and salutatorian.
"If you are looking for a LifeChanger, you have found one in Beryl Bailey," said Drew. "I wholeheartedly recommend her and hope you are able to see the impact she has had on the lives of countless students and educators."
Soror and Principal Beryl Bailey is a life changer, role model, and true inspiration. Two of my children were fortunate enough to attend P.S. 195 and the experience had a tremendous impact on their academic and social growth due to Principal Bailey’s leadership and concern for each and every one of her students.
She also stepped in when life presented me with a real tragedy. I will forever be grateful for her empathy, compassion and genuine concern.
I pray that God continues to keep her in his favor and cover her. She without a doubt is a life changer, and I wish her all the very best!
Beryl
Soror and Friend and always a there for everyone. Now is the time for you to do you and live your best life.I wish you a life time of whatever you want to say and do. As a fellow educator I will always need you to survive.
It is spoken out loud by the many of the mercies of God. The air that we breathe, the beauty of the earth we live on, or the wonders of the sky and our universe.
But it is often whispered of What is known as God’s “Tender Mercies”. The subtle, small gestures that have the greatest impact on our daily lives. Those take on many forms and signs. The laughter of a small child, the helping hand that lifts you up from the lowest of times, or the comfort and warmth of friendship.
Beryl Bailey is a shining example of God’s tenderest of mercies. An accomplished woman, Beryl has raised herself to heights unobtainable by many. But never rose so high that she could not reach back and extend a hand to someone in need and help them obtain their own heights, their own accomplishments.
An educator, An administrator, a mother an example of what one could achieve when the gifts that are given are recognized early, and applied justly.
And for that, I, and many before me own a debt of gratitude and a heartfelt thank you, to the simplest of God’s tender mercies. For the friendship, support, sincerity and loving heart of my friend, my mentor, and everyone’s angel, in my eyes, the greatest of God’s tender mercies, Beryl Bailey.

Principal Baily is a kind caring person who looked out for other. She has worked very hard over the years with children staffs and the community. This has a giving spirit she gave me gifts for everyday leading up to Christmas and not only that she always put out fruts or snacks on the counter for all her staff. She makes sure that there is uniforms in the building for children who's parents can't afford to dress their children in uniform, also other clothes including underwear sack and more. If anyone deserves this award, it is Ms. Beryl Bailey. I have had the very fortunate experience of working for Ms. Bailey, for the past three years, at P.S 195. During that time, I have been amazed at Ms. Bailey's care and concern for her students and her staff. Ms. Bailey truly loves the students that enter her building and does everything in her power to ensure they thrive and enjoy their educational experience. Ms. Bailey also cares deeply for her staff and she treats each member of her team as if they are her family. Due to being such a caring and loving leader, Ms. Bailey gets the absolute most out of her staff and her building is full of love, compassion and care a perfect environment to educate tomorrow's leaders. Ms. Bailey is a blessing to whomever she crosses paths with and she certainly is a life changer. I hope and pray she gets the recognition she deserves.

I have known Beryl Bailey through our sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc.--the Epsilon Pi Omega Chapter located in Queens, New York. We both have served Chapter President and because of that, I know full well of the sincerity Beryl's commitment to our community and to the children who live here. I am also the wife of a school Principal which gives me a front-row view of the work that goes into school leadership. Beryl puts in the work consistently and clearly does so because she believes in her students and the potential they hold. There are not enough school leaders with that of that kind of dedicated commitment to our young people today. The students of P.S. 195 are lucky to have Beryl Bailey believe in them and because of that belief, their lives will be forever changed for the better. Beryl Bailey is the embodiment of true leadership and is well deserving of this recognition!!
No one deserves the Life Changer Award more than Ms. Beryl Bailey. I have known Ms. Bailey for the past 14 years. The first time I entered her office she made me feel welcome. We are a family at PS 195! Just like we have the head of household in our house, at PS 195 we have Ms. Bailey. She is the rock and the Pillar that holds us together.
Ms. Bailey is a dedicated, kind-hearted, compassionate, selfless and amazing woman. She has dedicated her life to her students, parents, staff and the community. Ms. Bailey is an exceptional leader. She treats and opens her heart to everyone. Ms. Bailey has touched the lives of so many. She has helped and supported me personally and professionally like she does for so many other people. I feel blessed and honored to work under her leadership. How often do you hear people say they love their principal? Well on behalf of the students, parents, staff and the community I can say, "We love and appreciate our great leader Principal Beryl Bailey."
I am so happy to post comments in support of my sorority sister, Beryl Bailey! As the current President of the southeast Queens chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., I cannot begin to say how fantastic this is to have the opportunity to encourage the granting of a Lifechanger award to her. Beryl herself is a former President of our chapter and I can clearly state that her leadership was steady and most able, precisely what we needed for the times. I have known Beryl for years, through her ascendancy in the NYC Department of Education. As a Principal, there is no doubt that she is committed to the children in her school and to the professional development of her staff. Beryl's school has had a busy and vibrant Saturday program for youngsters and that can only be attributed to her interest in providing as many opportunities as possible for young people to learn and thrive. I suspect that if you could hear from students in school, they would have glowing reviews of their Principal--how she looks out for them, how she believes in them, and how committed she is to their success. For these and many other reasons, Beryl Bailey should be named one of your Lifechangers of the Year!
This is an honor to share with you my experience of my sister and friend who has changed my life! She is an example of what it means to push past the pain. The quote "You are always responsible for how you act, no matter how you feel." Describes her leadership style. She fights in multiple arenas overcoming her opponent by focusing on the prize. Helping others beat poverty, abuse, homelessness, mental issues, domestic violence, and low self-esteem drives her to fight for change in the life of others. Giving of herself for others while taking care of her family, friends and others is her 24 hour 365 days a year job that she makes look so easy. A woman of Substance, Honor, Vision, Tenacity and Dreamer is who Beryl Bailey is. Those who are blessed to have had the experience to meet her can truly say It was good to have been in the presence of a catalyst of CHANGE! C-character, H-humility, A-accessible, N-no nonsense, G-giving, E-excellence!!! Beryl Bailey the Life Changer of the Year 2020!!!
She always has a plan. Her main plan is to help others find their purpose in life. Principal Bailey is a women we both vision powerful and beyond what anyone could ever imagine. Oh Yes we salute her and thank God for placing her in our lives!!
Whether you are a student or staff member at PS 195, sorority sister, church member, friend or family, I am certain that Beryl Bailey has been a Life Changer to you. I met Beryl as my sorority sister of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Pi Omega Chapter in the early 2000s. As a young member only a few years removed from college, I came into the chapter during her presidency (2004-2007). She recognized leadership qualities in me that I had not recognized in myself and appointed me to serve as her treasurer in 2006. During this time working closely together, she became more than just my sorority sister, but a mentor and friend. I have witnessed all that she does for her family, school, sorority and friends in a 24 hour time frame and always look at her in amazement, wondering at how she gets it all done. I have watched and admired Beryl as someone to look up to. When I had the opportunity to also serve as a president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Pi Omega Chapter, from 2010-2013 she continued to serve as mentor to me, whether she knew it or not. I have learned and continue to learn so much from her as it pertains to the sorority, although in many ways, what I've learned has been applicable in both my professional and personal lives. Beryl is a nurturer, fair, trustworthy...a woman of integrity. I know that I am among the many, many lives that have been impacted by Beryl Bailey, a Life Changer indeed!
I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award than Beryl Bailey. I remember first meeting Beryl when I was a young college student. She embodied everything that I aspired to be. She was professional and diligent. I loved to visit her school because she created a positive and vibrant learning environment for children and families in her school and community. Over twenty years later, she has always remained that same person. Beryl is always willing to lend a helping hand, offer wisdom and knowledge. She is a pillar in her community, school, Sorority, her family. Beryl Bailey is a rare gem.
Beryl Bailey has impacted generations. Not only is she an exceptional woman, but I have watched her excel from classroom teacher to college professor. Ms. Bailey has taught and cared for parents, teachers, leaders and students for over 30 years, especially in minority communities, where educational access is not always equal. She is devoted to family, faith and brighter futures for the next generation. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor than Beryl Bailey.
"Exceptional", "Kind-hearted", "Nuturing, "Phenomenal", "Selfless", "Spiritual", "An Effective Leader", and "Role Model" are descriptors that come to mind when I think of Beryl Bailey. I met Ms Bailey, through our organization, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated(R) where she has been a member for 38 uninterrupted years and has pledged to be of service to all mankind. During this time, she has held many leadership positions both in her local chapter and in the North Atlantic Region of our organization. In the time that I have known my sister Beryl, I have witnessed her operate as Principal Bailey at PS 195. She has a passion for her students AND their families. Beryl has selflessly given countless hours of her time to make sure each child is given a quality education. She goes above and beyond to make sure every child feels included regardless of his/her background. Beryl deserves the Life Changer award because she has done just that for so many. Whether one has an emotional, a physical, or financial need, she will provide support till that need is met and never ask for anything in return. Beryl is also a role model; a leader who leads by example and who is committed to developing the people on her team to be effective communicators and good leaders as well. I am proud to call her sister and friend. I do believe with my whole heart that this Phenomenal Woman is most deserving of the Life Changer of the Year award.
I have known Beryl Bailey as a soror (sister) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Epsilon Pi Omega Chapter in Queens for 32 years. Beryl was president of our chapter from 2004-2007. Our motto is “service to all mankind”. Soror Beryl has been a champion of service to all mankind since I have known her in our sisterhood and as principal of PS 195 Queens. She met challenges head on as she entered PS 195 in Rosedale, NY, and found a neighborhood in racial and cultural transition. Beryl, an experienced and highly qualified educator proved more than equal to any challenges that she faced. She trained teachers to support their growth and helped young people recognize their gifts. PS 195 is a six day a week school. I have seen students learning to play tennis and chess. They are also learning that the sky is the limit. I believe that she considers her job a sacred trust. High standards have been set as she strives to do her best for students, parents, teachers, and the entire community. Thousands of lives have been truly enriched by her presence.

Having had the benefit of witnessing her faithful devotion to all aspects of her life it is no surprise that she has been nominated for this award. I can honestly say she has, unbeknownst to her, changed my life. There is no task too small or too big for her take on. Even though she may be the principal, the mom, the servant leader, whatever position she is in at the time, Beryl Bailey is not afraid to kick off her heels and get in the trenches, if that is what’s needed to get the job done. I have personally witnessed her sacrificing her time without complaint. That level of support and dedication I have worked toward achieving.
The school she leads and the community she represents have benefitted greatly from the many years Ms Bailey has worked from sunup to sundown to bring brighter days, good memories and a sense of pride to all who have had the pleasure to make her acquaintance. She is loved and respected by her staff, her family and her friends. She is simply a “phenomenal”woman.

I have never worked with you professionally but I do recall your sweet sweet spirit as we were both students at SUNY Old Westbury. Your years as an educator and leader in the education department is impressive and indicative of who you have always presented yourself to be. May retirement be as sweet and as kind to you as you have been to others.
After 27 years in education as a teacher, teacher coach, assistant principal, principal coach and principal, I have had the recent privilege to join Principal Beryl Bailey's school community during the uncertain times of the COVID-19 pandemic and civil unrest. Within a few weeks, I came to know her as a leader who is deeply committed to others, upholds herself and her community to the highest standards, leads by example with love and authenticity. Her leadership built a school culture that reflects who she is, values all its members and brings them together to face challenges as a family. My experience of Joining her school has given me hope, joy and made me a better educator. It is an honor to be a member of the "Baily Family" and to learn from one of the most impressive school leader I have ever met.

Coming straight out of high school with no future plans. Ms Bailey has made me the man I am now. Now I know what I want to be thanks to her.
Ms. Beryl Bailey has not only changed the lives of thousands of children as an educator, assistant principal and principal, she’s done the same for her staff. She opens her heart to everyone equally and with tremendous empathy gets us through the hard times. This last year, she made sure we had the tools to teach remotely; we accomplished this task with her guidance and support. One example that comes to mind is her personally delivering tech devices with her mask and gloves on, to children in need. She is most worthy of this honor. She truly cares and that resonates in all that she does daily. She’s the best!

I SALUTE BERYL BAILEY, A LIFE CHANGER FOR LIFE!
She is one of the most kindest people I know she helps people in their time of need even if she is going through something herself and I love her for that.
Ms. Bailey is a beautiful person inside and out. She is and always will be my role model. She would be an asset to anyone who is indeed seeking a LifeChanger.
As an Occupational Therapist working under Ms. Bailey as my principle, it has been such a great experience. Within the 15 yrs of working with her, she has taught me many lessons that helped me to grow as a service provider and as an individual. Ms. Bailey is the type of person who leaves her office door open for all her staff and is always available to listen and help resolve any issues encountered. She goes above and beyond to support her staff and encourage them to do better. I have seen staff members climb the ladder from various positions within my school with the support and encouragement provided by Ms. Bailey. She has had a strong impact on my job performance throughout the years as she always inspired me to show compassion and be mindful of each student's personal situations as I set my goals for them. Ms. Bailey has been the glue that kept the staff of PS195 as one big family. She has had a huge impact on the lives of so many of us as well as the parents of PS195. The efforts that I've seen her make, to assure each student receives the proper education and is never singled out regardless of their home situation, is beyond any other principle I have ever worked with. She truly deserves this award for having such a positive impact on all who have had the pleasure of working with her.
Ms. Bailey is an astonishing woman. There is nothing she faces in life that cannot be solved with love, peace and understanding. She is compassionate and a true leader in every sense. Her accomplishments are reputable and she leads and supports with confidence and grace. The way she tries to help people and meet the needs of children, her staff and their families exemplifies what humanity truly is. I nominate her wholeheartedly for this award. Nobody deserves this more than the woman that put her faith in hiring me to serve her school, her people and her community.
Ms.Beryl Bailey is an amazing principal that pushes her staff to be the very best! She is a team player and wants everyone to succeed!
