Coach Kalb is a great teacher, coach, and colleague who sees the best in people and encourages them to achieve their dreams!

I became good friends with Juan 20 years ago because he reminded me of Chevy Chase. He is hilarious, laid back, wise, beloved and dedicated. He is a great coach, teacher, referee, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather? and friend. I like hanging out with people who have a sense of humor and who are laid back and Juan is the master. He does not let things get to him and I do. What I like most about Juan is that he always helps me chilllll with his awesome wisdom and laid back attitude. I also don’t hold it against him for playing Division III college football when many have. Obviously I also say dumb things sometimes and Juan understands and might not think this is the most appropriate post for this situation. Therefore I”m looking forward to his great wisdom and advise about this post. Here’s to the memories Juan!

Juan Kalb is certainly worthy of a lifetime achievement award! He has coached my own children, been a caring instructor and ADVOCATE for the inclusion of my special needs students, and now continues to referee my grandchildren’s soccer games across the neighboring counties. Beyond that, he was a true colleague to me for 12 years - always available to help problem solve and make others smile!

Amanda Jones Posted 7 months ago

For many years, Juan Kalb has been changing lives through dedication, selflessness, and heart. A retired Physical Education teacher and coach from Martin County High School, Juan’s influence did not end when he retired. He continues to give back by refereeing games and actively supporting young athletes, always leading by example. Known for his steadfast devotion, Juan was the kind of educator who would do anything for a student or a colleague. For the years that I worked with Juan, he was always there, offering encouragement, guidance, and genuine care without hesitation. His passion for athletics has always gone hand-in-hand with teaching life lessons of teamwork, perseverance, and respect. Juan Kalb’s impact reaches far beyond the gym or the field, making him truly deserving of recognition as a life-changing individual.

Met Mr.Kalb on soccer field reffing soccer, and has given me great advice on how things on the field can help one in life. Has pushed me to think outside the box, and venture into other sports (Volleyball, Basketball, and Soccer) which has allowed me to see how Sports are all intertwined.

I have known Juan Kalb since 1997. He was my football coach and PE teacher and he was instrumental in teaching me about sports. Eventually I came back to Martin County where Juan and I coached football together and won a district championship. I continue coaching to this day and I can credit him with teaching me about instruction, motivation, and technique. Congratulations coach Kalb!!

Coach Kalb has been an important part of my life since 1986. That was when he motivated me to become a better soccer player, student, and person. He pushed me to work harder in all aspects of my life. He helped me to be able to continue my playing career in college. After I graduated college he started mentoring me in the next stage of my life as a teacher and coach. I will never be able to thank him enough for all he has done for me over the last 34 years. Congrats on a well deserved retirement.

Mike French Posted over a year ago

I have known Kalb for almost 30 years. He's the kind of coach that every athlete should have. He tells it like it is, whether you like it or not. He pushed me to be the best player I could be and the life lessons I learned on the soccer field I am now teaching my own kids. He has truly made a difference in my life. I am so thankful to have had him as a Coach and I am so proud to call him my friend. Congratulations Coach!

I had the pleasure of meeting Juan when I was on the east coast getting my undergraduate degree. At that time I was just learning about the opportunities refereeing can take one to the higher levels both professionally and internationally. Juan Kalb is one of the individuals who helped mentor me on the field from the get go when I was walking into unfamiliar territory. He never treated me differently because I was a woman or my age or ethnicity. He treated me like a peer - every step of the way - and was among the group that was always there to support during those initial years of growth. A bit gruff on the outset is what many may initially take away but if you wheedle just enough there’s an incredible heart behind it all whose passion is to motivate, support and elevate the next generation. For those moments and times and for others just like me you’ve impacted as we’ve grown in this world, thank you Juan for always being the teacher you are and helping others learn to grow. Congratulations on the award and achievement - as for me, you were a life changer.

In Juan's years of being an educator teaching students, coaching players and being involved in officiating sports, he has always valued the importance of teaching, training and education. While we all know he may have a unique tactful way of teaching, it works and is effective. He exemplifies the nomination and meaning of 'lifechanger'.

Erik Fenniman Posted over a year ago

Coach Kalb is awesome. At a very difficult time in my life coach was very understanding and supportive of me as a person. I will never forget it. It made me want to play that much harder for him. I have nothing but deep gratitude and appreciation for him and my years for Martin county soccer. He touched so many players by his knowledge of soccer and putting a Quality team together on the field. Aside from the success on the field it is the little moments that I treasure, Miami Beach tournaments where he told us what the other team was saying about us in Spanish, “hey home boy”, the team huddles before the start of a game in silence, and all the other little things that make him such a cool cat. I love him in respectful way and will always have a smile on my face when I hear the words coach kalb. I wish him calm seas and the wind at his back! Erik Fenniman

Coach Kalb is one of the few teachers/coaches that I can say has made an impact on my life. He was my soccer coach for 4 years as well as physical education teacher for a couple of those years. Nonetheless, Coach Kalb went beyond the soccer field or gym; he has been a resource that I can count on whenever I have questions about life. He’s part of the reason I am who I am today. My pursuit to be a physical education teacher and soccer coach is because of him, directly. I wish Coach Kalb nothing but the best as he deserves it!

As a referee, sometimes a bit of a "pain. But over the 35 years I have known you, you have evolved into a fine coach, a great referee, an excellent teacher of the game by your example, and a great friend. Had you come earlier in becoming a ref, you could well have evolved as one of America's great referees. Regardless, you are in my book at the top of the game. I have loads of memories watching your games, refereeing with you, assessing you, and you bringing up others and teaching the game. Keep the game flowing. Your friend, John Auld
