Music that Describes Amy

Amy Clark was nominated by her principal, Tami De James.

Ms. Clark has been the band director at Murray Middle School for 28 years. She has been a BIG influence on hundreds, possibly thousands of students during her career. At different times over the years, she has had as many as one-third of her school’s student body participating in one of her classes for that school year.  

Many of her students continue with their love of band after they leave Murray Middle School. Local high school band directors often comment on the students that come from Murray Middle School and how disciplined they are with their music. Ms. Clark holds all of her students to the highest standards.  

Former students come back to Murray Middle School for concerts and parades year after year to say hello to Ms. Clark, let her know what they are up to in their lives, share family photos, etc. She also teaches several students whose parents were once a student in her band class. The parents are excited to know that Ms. Clark is still the band director and want their children to have the same band experience they had.

"To say that Amy has been an influence on students is an understatement," said De James. "Amy has been a huge influence, both in the band room and in life! Murray Middle School will miss her!"

My son discovered his musical talent and an appreciation for all kinds of music when he attended Murray Middle School with Amy Clark as his Band director. At the end of sixth grade, he came to me and asked if he could take two band classes instead of another elective that he would have ensured was a piece of cake. By eighth grade, he was in marching band, symphonic band, jazz band, and was a French horn player in the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony. I should mention that he was also an A student and an athlete. This level of involvement in music on top of his other commitments required a true love for his music. Amy Clark planted the seeds to grow his love for music. She has done this for countless students and is very deserving of this award.

Amy, you have been a force at Murray! Inspirational, professional and genuine. You are a person to admire for your talent as a musician, teacher and friend. I am glad we were colleagues. I have learned much from you. I wish you every happiness as you move into retirement from teaching middle school.

Amy Clark is a Wonderful band director! For years, she has worked with our Middle School students with patience and persistance and love! Both my daughters went through Mrs. Clark's band program and continued with music through High School and into college! I still remember the 1st concert of the year for Beginning Band, and the students play the "Ugly Note". It was always remakable at the end of that year, to see how far the students had come in just one short year! She was instrumental in helping my children academically and socially and she has always been a marvelous combination of professionalism and fun-loving and she truly cared about her "band kids" She will be missed!
