"Sarah has truly demonstrated going above and beyond for her students," said Porter. "I first met Sarah in 2018 though a Chamber event and was impressed with how she gives up her lunchtime to facilitate the growing garden on campus. This garden helps provide a calming outlet for students, and it teaches them how to grow fresh produce and care for their plants. The garden boosts students' self-esteem and confidence, and it teaches them to work collaboratively with others."
When the stay at home order was issued due to COVID-19, ATLAS was one of the designated campuses for free meals in the community. Mrs. Viscarra continued to come to school and keep her students engaged with the garden when they came for free meals. She pours herself into each incredible student she gets to call hers and goes about her job with joy. She is incredible and is making such a positive impact on her students!
