Vicki Milton was nominated by her colleague, Diane McMurry.
“You can’t be afraid of failure.”
Those words have guided Ms. Milton throughout her career as an educator. Education is a business of relationships, and Ms. Milton has impacted many lives throughout her career through the relationships she built. It's about making a difference in people’s lives by bringing in needed opportunities. By choosing to serve in Title I schools, Ms. Milton found her niche in education by helping students who need her the most. Standing only 5’4”, she is a mighty package of energy who is focused on getting the job done right and helping those around her to be successful in their work.
Ms. Milton attended school in Martin County, and it was here that she found the desire to become a teacher. Motivated by continuing her love of coaching the dance team, she earned her degree from the University of Florida, while returning to Martin County on the weekends to coach the newly formed “Thunderbirds” Dance Team at Indiantown Middle School. Her teaching career would take her out of state, to Virginia, and then back again to Florida.
Eventually, Ms. Milton found her way back to Martin County in 2006. She was the assistant principal of curriculum at Murray Middle School - the same school she attended as a child! Being at Murray was more than a job. It was a passion. Ms. Milton poured her heart and soul into the school, with an intense desire to grow the school and help the students succeed. She kept that same level of passion and commitment in her current role at Anderson Middle School.
After thirty years in education, Ms. Milton is ready to retire. She will shift her focus from building relationships at school to nurturing her horses. As a child, she thought that owning her own horse would mean that she was successful in life. Well, nine horses later, it is not only the horses that measure her success, but the thousands of lives she has positively touched through her service in education. That's what makes her a LifeChanger.
Mrs. Milton, I am grateful that I got to work with you in the last five years at AMS. You were always there for students, teachers, parents, staff. You are amazing!!! You are passionate, full of energy, and very organized. Thanks for your support and guidance. I wish you the best. Happy retirement!!!

I had the pleasure of knowing Vicki as an administrator ans as a friend. She was kind, compassionate and a true leader in education.
The moment I walked into Ms. Milton's office and said "how do I become a teacher" changed my life and made my dream come true. I started at AMS as a sub with dreams of being a Social Studies teacher. Ms. Milton made this come true through your guidance, positive criticism and continued support. She guided and supported me to the successes I have accomplished in becoming a Civics teacher and SS dept chair. I am grateful and wish Ms. Milton the best in enjoying the horses!
Vicki is a lady after my own heart... organized, on top of things, and knows her stuff. Middle school administrators don't always get the love they deserve and this lady deserves a lot! Thank you for everything you have given your students, school, and district. We will miss you!
Dear Vicki, It has been such a pleasure to work with you at AMS! You were always professional and fair and knew how to bring humor to lighten a stressful situation. Enjoy your retirement with your family and stay safe and healthy!
Vicki, your ability to take the complicated and make it simple is your super power. Knowing that when you were in charge of any aspect of the Anderson Middle School campus, it would be done well, ahead of schedule, and with a flair. You always preferred to be in the background but on those occasions when the spotlight hit you, it was "game on". I will miss dropping into your office unannounced to share a story (often for the 3rd time), ask advice on a problem, or just vent. Good luck in your retirement and time spent with John and the horses.

I’m sorry that I only had 2 years to work with you. You were always there to answer my questions, give me guidance, and to encourage me when I had doubts about my ability as a new teacher. You are a “Lifechanger” and will be missed.

When confusion reigns, Mrs. Milton remains! She emits a calm, practical attitude to the small disruptions such as a student needing a schedule change as well as to large disruptions such as incorrect test directions being read for high-stakes tests. If there was a question needing answered, the person "most likely to tell it like it is" would be Mrs. Milton. Her direct approach to both teachers and students made it a pleasure to know she was at the helm for curriculum. I will miss her immensely, and only hope her horses appreciate her as much as we all did at AMS.
I wish I could have worked with you longer but happy for you!! I found you to be an extremely hard working and dedicated individual. You are a strait shooter and also a comforting and patient support depending on the need, I loved that!

Mrs. Milton, I admire you so much! Your organization and attention to detail kept us all afloat many many times!! I think your presence helped many of us up our game and be better at what we were doing. My favorite thing about you (besides your manicures because I always loved those) is how you've mastered the power of speaking so purposefully. You say what you mean and you get to the point which means you always have a captive audience. We know that if you've taken the time to say something, it's in our very best interest to listen fully. I wish you all the best in your retirement!! Thank you for everything you've done for our schools!

Hi Mrs. Milton,
It is so hard to say goodbye! You are an awesome educator to work with. It was nice to share the same passion for testing with you! It has been a pleasure working with you at Anderson. You have been one of the best AP of Curriculum at Anderson. You know I would know because I have been there from the beginning. I am going to miss visiting you in the testing room. You were always there to help me when I had a question or just had to run something by you. I appreciated all of your help when I needed it. Congratulation to you as you ride off into the sunset of your career. Enjoy!
Vicki, it has certainly been a pleasure knowing and working with you over the past....hmmmm..how many years has it been??? 11? 12 years? I have lost track! The one thing I DO know is that you have always been a source of information and help! I so appreciate you and your support when we worked together at MMS, as well as working with you from different campuses.
I hope you enjoy your new journey and continue to travel and explore new locations around the world.

Out of all the administrators I've worked with in 17 years (which has been A LOT) I respect you the most. You are organized, committed, and respectful to your peers. You were always straight forward, diligent with any presentations you were to give your staff, and followed through on our inquiries and requests. I will truly miss working with you as I wish ALL administrators would follow your example. You left emotion out of your decisions, was thorough with your guidance and explanations, and abided by what was right and fair. If I am ever able to work with an administrator of your caliber again I will truly be blessed. Enjoy your retirement and don't be a stranger.

Congratulations to Ms. Milton! She is one of the hardest working people I’ve met. She is always very clear and direct which makes everything seem so much more capable.
