Malik Wheat was nominated by an anonymous member of the community.

"Mr. Wheat was instrumental in helping my grandson graduate from Hopewell High School (HHS)," his nominator said. "If it was not for Mr. Wheat's ability to motivate my grandson and provide various career pathways for him, he would have definitely dropped out of school.  Mr. Wheat is the consummate educator and deserves higher, more national recognition."

No one does more to reach out to at-risk high school students than Mr. Wheat. He was a great history teacher & he now does a phenomenal job touching the lives of students at HHS & reaching out to dropouts to get them back in school, enroll them in a GED program, or get them in Job Corps. A well deserved nomination.
