For the past 15 years, Ms. Ramos has been known as an incredible kindergarten teacher. She is the talk of the town, and a lot of families request for their children to be in her class. She never asks for much and always gives 200% to her work.
Ms. Ramos is a LifeChanger because her students learn, grow, and have fun in her class. She ensure that each lesson caters to different types of learners to ensure success! She spends countless hours on her lessons and preparation to ensure that her students receive the best!
Most importantly, Ms. Ramos' students learn and build great social-emotional skills that are necessary for their future. She makes sure they have great character and are able to recover from setbacks at a young age. She teaches them empathy, compassion, and how to be kind to one another. Her students always return years later to thank her for everything she has done for them.

Shawna Ramos is a gem!! She has a unique way of understanding and appreciating each person for who they are. She leads with kindness, compassion, humor and love and it shows in each child who gets the honor of being in her classroom.
She’s everything we could have wished for in a kindergarten teacher and so much more. We’ve been lucky enough to have her for 2 of our sons and hope to get her for our little ones when it’s their time for school.

We have known Ms. Ramos for 7 years. She helped my daughter move from the back of the class (as a shy girl) to the front of the class (as an active participant). She was able to give her the confidence she needed to move through grade school... Ms. Ramos is unique in her ability to touch each student by being sensitive to each ones needs. She is a quiet but powerful teacher that has set many children in a great direction. Our whole family, but especially our daughter will remember her with much aloha.
I don't know about you, but when I see that Ms. Ramos only has 62 comments I am in total shock! If you mention her name around the community, everyone knows she's the best Kindergarten teacher around here. Her comment count should skyrocket passed 200! It is no joke that she can't even walk through the market without getting spotted by a former parent and/or student who wants to share how much her impact has been on their lives. That in itself is definitely proof that she deserves this prestigious recognition.
Ms. Ramos may look like your average teachers, but under that disguise is a Super Teacher! Don't be fooled! She is one of the best teachers out there! Give her this award. She deserves to be recognized for everything is has done for our community! =)

My daughter was in kindergarten last year and I had the pleasure of interacting with Ms. Ramos on many occasions as a parent volunteer. I would help in kindergarten with many field trips, parties and class activities. Each time I entered the classroom, I found myself learning from Ms. Ramos to be fun and in charge at the same time, as well as organized. This experience being in her kindergarten space was life changing in that I gained valuable skills to have organized fun in the classroom. A skill I cherish and continually use as a parent volunteer with my childrens? classes. This time spent learning from her gave me the confidence and interest in taking on the role of room parent in my child?s class.
Ms. Ramos is the kind of teacher you hope you become. She is an incredible advocate for her kids, always willing to put in the necessary (and over the top) work that it takes for her students to be able to learn in an educational setting.. but she also cares about the people they are.. she helps them to understand that our social and emotional interactions are important skills to hone.. she makes sure her students understand that that kind of awareness, is just as important academic intelligence. I think Ms Ramos is a unicorn and I feel privileged to be able to watch her change lives every day!

So blessed that both of our boys have had Ms. Ramos to guide them through their kindergarten experience. We are thrilled to write in support of Ms. Ramos for this recognition. Coming from a very small pre-school of only 6 children, our daughter was very nervous about starting Kindergarten. Ms. Ramos immediately validated her concerns (and ours!) and helped ease our daughter into a really smooth, successful transition into Kindergarten without missing a beat. And we quickly learned how lucky we were to have Ms. Ramos as our daughter's teacher. She recognizes that parents need some attention too as their children enter the school system, giving just the right amount of information and updates, keying us newbies in on things we might not otherwise realize. Most importantly, we greatly appreciate how Ms. Ramos encourages her students' strengths, but also works with them to build up those areas in which they are less strong, both academic and social skills. Our daughter LOVED Kindergarten, and we know Ms. Ramos played the major role in her experience. We are grateful for the life lessons and teaching our daughter had in Kindergarten with Ms. Ramos, and we have our fingers crossed our son will have her as a teacher too!
Our son was very fortunate to have Ms. Ramos as his K teacher. As parents we were really happy with all that she did. Such an important step in any child's life and she helped my son take it with excitement and enthusiasm. He really enjoyed going to school every day and I know Ms. Ramos was the reason why.

Three of my children had the privilege of having Ms. Ramos as their kindergarten teacher. She is incredible and one of the most amazing teachers. Her classroom management blows my mind as her students are always calm, happy, learning and enjoying school. She is so humble and makes teaching look easy. Ms. Ramos really cares not just about my daughter's education but about her whole self. My daughter has social anxiety and Ms. Ramos created a safe, loving classroom where she has gained my daughter's trust. My daughter is encouraged to do things that are challenging for her. Ms. Ramos pushes kids out of their comfort zone to help them gain confidence.
We were so fortunate to end up in Ms. Ramos' class for Kindergarten. It can be such a tough transition for kids but she has an innate ability to teach to the individual student and help them make a smooth transition. Our son had many challenges but it felt like Ms. Ramos not only understood them but helped us work with the school to put a learning plan in place to give him the best opportunity he could have to succeed, and love school! Shawna was my daughter’s kindergarten teacher, and as every parent knows this is a very stressful time. She made my child feel so safe, welcomed, and encouraged her every step of the way! (And that includes my husband and myself!)

Shawna Ramos is the epitome of the perfect Kindergarten teacher...as our child had a tough time in pre-school every day was a battle to go to school, and a roller coaster of emotions when he was done with school. I can now say our son happily goes to school every day and Shawna Ramos is to thank for that, our child feels safe and cared for and always is given the attention that is needed, along with all the other kids in the class. She made my son feel like a leader and she gave him the confidence to work hard and truly reach for the stars. He came into school thinking he wasn’t very good at reading or writing, but she praised his every achievement and made him feel like he could do anything! She truly believed in him and made him believe in himself. Shawna is humble and grounded, and gives all her heart to her students - making them shine!!! She is able to manage the most demanding classroom environment with grace and fun. Ms. Ramos weekly shares info./pictures with parents of the fun things they learned that week. Each lesson is creative and obviously captivates the kids. I am blown away by the things my daughter learns from class but my favorite thing my daughter regularly shares with me is social lessons of kindness. I am amazed at the retention of kindness she brings home and displays because it is being modeled at school. I am so grateful for Ms. Ramos' kindness and that she teaches her Kinder kids to also be kind.

It is a pleasure to be able to brag about Ms. Ramos! Our family has been blessed to have her as our Kindergarten teacher not once but twice. She is so easy to talk to, always willing to chat for a bit, open and honest and truly dedicated to working with our kids. Our oldest daughter experienced anxiety with the transition from K to 1st grade. Miss Ramos brought it to our attention before we even noticed it, and worked with us for weeks to make sure she was okay. Now our youngest daughter is in her class, and experiencing what we now refer to as "the worry age." We know we'll get through this transition too, with the help of Miss Ramos! She consistently provides fun activities, extra treats, positive vibes, a calm demeanor and invaluable weekly emails to parents. And she takes the entire class out for shave ice on her birthday?? Forget about it.
I worked as the school counselor at Ka’ohao School with Shawna for ten years...from the start, you saw and felt her kindness and compassion for each and every child. She would show so much empathy, treating each child as an individual and meeting their needs as if they were her own. The year the children spend with Shawna gives them a solid, secure, loving base from which they can, and do, grow and achieve in the future. I believe the children, as well as their parents and families, greatly benefit from having had Shawna in their lives.
Two of my younger kids had Shawna for their Kinder teacher.She made it super comfortable for them starting Kindergarten at a new school. Shawna works hard to help her kids in her class gain the most in school. She is super organized and as a parent I appreciated that. Ms. Ramos is so insanely deserving of this award. She completely and 100% changed our lives. In 2017 our family moved from out-of-state, and our girls were reeling from 2 moves in less than a year. We had moved almost 6,000 miles from Virginia to Alabama and landed in Hawaii. Two months later our oldest daughter started Kindergarten with Ms. Ramos. Ms. Ramos reshaped our family's view on early education, supporting our daughter in both her strengths and weaknesses. She never makes children feel ashamed for being kids. Where others refer to children as "restless" Ms. Ramos sees "enthusiasm". Where others may see defiance, Ms. Ramos sees a child who is frustrated. Where kids excel, she challenges them. Where kids struggle, she lifts them up. She sees what each individual child needs, and she provides it, again and again - every time. I am repeatedly blown away with her ability to focus so accurately on what each student needs to succeed, while still seamless supporting the class as a whole. Ms. Ramos not only believes in academic success, but in developing young minds to have awareness of the world they live in and the people around them. She focuses so much on social and emotional development and her love and passion radiate outward and shine through the kids. Today, my youngest gets to spend her Kindergarten year with Ms. Ramos as well, and our hearts are full. Ms. Ramos cares about her students, their families and her community. You'll find her at every function - support and encouraging. You see her eagerly and passionately coordinating with other staff in the school to engage with students for academic and social success. She's available to her parents and students all the time, she's immediately responsive and she is the definition of the type of person every community should want supporting their youngest minds.
Shawna and I started our teaching journey together as classmates at the College of Education at the University of Hawaii - Manoa. It was very evident early on that Shawna would shine bright on the classroom stage. She is creative, patient, kind, committed and positive. Always first to finish assignments, Shawna was a natural leader for our cohort, consistently challenging us to be our best self. During the last 15 years, Shawna has been an outstanding Educator at Ka'ohao School influencing the lives of countless students. Two of my own children have been graced with the "Ramos" experience -- changing negatives to positives as young kindergartners. To this day, they share fond memories of lessons learned, the ones no textbook could ever teach. Shawna always celebrates differences and focuses on teaching her students to be good people. She has been a life changer for me, my children and for the community she serves. I can't think of a more deserving recipient.
Shawna is an awesome teacher! I was lucky to have her as my daughter’s K teacher. We found her old kindergarten journal in the back of her bookshelf recently and we enjoyed reading her entries & seeing the growth as she flourished through the year. It’s clear my daughter loved being in her class and I look forward to my son being in her class. They are 2 very different personalities but I know all children thrive in their own special way in Shawna’s class. Her encouragement, patience, and focus on each child as an individual is like an astute gardener tending to their unique flowers. I was blessed to be Shawna's student teacher 9 years ago and learn much of what I know and practice as a teacher from her...she was an excellent mentor - teaching by example, making sure I felt confident in what I was doing, and finding my hidden talents and forcing me to use them! :P We stayed friends throughout the years that followed and she continued to encourage me and offer her support. Fast forward to today and I am now blessed to get to teach alongside her in kindergarten at Ka`?hao - something I had long hoped and wished to do. I know that meeting Shawna, learning from her, and then getting to work with her as a colleague has been a "lifechanger" for me - she definitely deserves this recognition!

I have had the pleasure of working with Ms. Ramos as part of the kindergarten team for the last 3 years. On a daily basis, she consistently demonstrates patience, creativity, dedication and passion for teaching. Through extensive planning and preparation she has excellent classroom management and a teaching style that makes kids love learning. She understands that communication with families is key to helping her students be successful in school. She maintains an environment that is conducive to learning and encourages children to make considerate choices and learn from their mistakes. Shawna Ramos was my oldest child’s KG teacher back in 2013-14 school year and I must say that I was amazed at how perfectly she was suited for this profession and how well she was respected by the students. Ms. Ramos is still my kids favorite teacher! Mind you they are in 4th and 6th grade! That says a lot. The kids felt free to be who they were and felt safe as they were being guided to explore. Ms Ramos provided structure that was clear and had high exceptions for respect and proper behavior. She has a magical way with these little 5 year olds, and they remember and respect her for that.

Shawna Ramos was such a wonderful teacher to my daughter Parker. We had just recently moved to Hawaii and it was such a treat to have Shawna as Parker’s first teacher at a new school. She was very caring and did an amazing job communicating with my husband and I. Shawna definitely made a huge impact on Parker’s life and is deserving of this award.
We have had the pleasure of Ms. Ramos guiding both of our daughters through kindergarten. Not only did our first daughter, Lina, have the BIG transition of entering a big girl school but she also dropped in at the end of the school year after being in a German play-based preschool in Hamburg for 2 years. Lina couldn't have landed in better care than with Ms Ramos during this HUMONGOUS transition. I accredit much of her doing so well with it all to Ms Ramos. Our youngest, Lea, had Ms Ramos for kindergarten last year. Lea thrived even though the class dynamic was one of the most challenging I've ever seen (I volunteered in the classroom regularly). Not many teachers would be able to manage this with such grace, where all kids' needs are being met. But I could have predicted she would be perfect for our girls after our very first day at Kaohao when we received her syllabus... "turning positives into negatives" is her motto and you can't top that! Aloha

Ms. Ramos is the best! Two of my three children were lucky to have Ms. Ramos as their kindergarten teacher. My two children that had her, have two completely different personalities and both thrived under Ms. Ramos. My daughter, a shy quiet introverted little girl at five years old, was completely transformed by Ms. Ramos’s gentle guidance, respect, encouragement, and belief in her. Because of Ms. Ramos’s support and confidence in her, this once timid little girl has grown into a smart confident student leader who does not shy away from speaking to the entire student body! My son, an extroverted happy boy whom was slow to develop a love for writing and reading, also completely transformed under Ms. Ramos’s leadership. This first year of school gave him a belief in himself and a newfound love of learning. Ms. Ramos made his learning experience so fun and he always felt so loved and accepted by her. These early years of these kiddos lives can be such an influential time and Ms. Ramos completely gets that and seizes every opportunity to build up each student both academically and emotionally as they need. Every child that comes through Ms. Ramos’s class is given the best start on their journey both-as students and as incredible human beings.

My daughter had Shawna for kindergarten last year, and she loved her! Now, she is doing well in first grade, and I believe it started with the strong foundation that was built in Shawna’s class.
Shawna, I know how much you love your students and how dedicated you are to them. I see how much effort and time you put into your lesson planning making sure each child will learn the concepts in their own learning style. You make every effort to contact parents to let them know about any challenges their child is facing as soon as a need arises. That's awesome! Parents appreciate that. I see your parents and students at my craft fairs and they're always saying such nice things about you and many times talking about how interesting your lessons are. I'm so proud to be your mother! Love you to the moon and back!!
Mrs Ramos Rocks!!!! That's the saying around town! She has such a magical heart to reach each student with kindness and excitement. Some how Ms. Ramos turns the Fear of Kindergarten into the Fun of kindergarten! She thrives off of every students fun experience while they learn the rules of life and encourages the kindness of one another.Talk about turning lemons in to lemonade!, Mrs. Ramos makes the best lemonade!
