Lori Cabe was nominated by her superintendent, Rodney Kay.
Mr. Kay was the high school principal at Heard County High School for three years before moving to the superintendent's position. He says that Ms. Cabe never missed school, ran the office, and always had a smiling face. Together, they started a mentoring program at Heard County High School, which has greatly benefitted their district.
Ms. Cabe volunteered to become a mentor for several children. More specifically, she became a mentor to a troubled young man who entered ninth grade in August 2013. The young man was identified as "at risk" by middle school staff. This student struggled with attendance, poor grades, and behavioral issues. These struggles were warning signs of a high school dropout, so he was placed in the mentoring program at Heard County High School. The program assigns an adult in the community to check in with the student about their grades, attendance, and behavior.
Ms. Cabe went above and beyond to make a connection with the young man's grandmother/guardian. She gave the student a sense of worth and stuck by his side throughout his high school career. She took him under her wing, purchased basic necessities for him during the school year, and even took him on family vacations in the summer.
The young man began to prosper in all areas of high school. He joined the basketball team, and his attendance, behavior, and grades improved. In May 2017, this young man walked across the stage with a high school diploma. The impact she had on this one student is unmeasurable. She gave him a future by instilling hope and opening her home to this child. She has recently taken in a middle school student and expects to see the same success from them, as well.
Ms. Cabe has not only made an impact on the life of that young man, but on her community, as well. She is the organizer for her school clothing closet, the school food pantry, and clothing drives for students in need. She's always the go-to person in the building and is known as "Momma Cabe" by students and staff. The atmosphere she has created is unparalleled.
"I want to recognize her as much as possible, and this award is so truly fitting," Kay said. "Ms. Cabe is a LifeChanger, and she doesn't do it for the money or the fame; it's genuinely for her love of children!"

Among all the things Mr Kay has said about MS Cabe, she gets out on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and delivers full Thanksgiving Dinners to people in need! She is truly a Life Changer to her community! She truly deserves this award!
I’ve seen firsthand how much love Mrs. Cabe shows our kids. She loves them like they are her own. She’s also done so much for me as a first year teacher to help me find my place at Heard County. Our school would not be the same without her!
She sets the bar on compassion for kids. A mom to all! The kids and staff know they can depend on her. If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a million times “I want to be the next Lori Cabe.” Yes this is impossible but I strive to have her commitment to the school system. <3
If every school in America had a Lori Cabe to be there for the kids as well as the staff and Leadership, our country would be in a better place. No child would feel left out or unloved, more children would be school successful, other school staff would work to model her goals for students
And there would be less negative behavior in schools. She truly models, "Love one Another..."
Lori Cabe has touched so many lives - not only students, but adults too. She is a woman of integrity, grit, morality, and heart.

So I'll just say she is amazing and the go to person for just about everything lol whenever you ask someone a question the response is "check with Mrs. Cabe". She handles so much and does it with her heart in everything!!! Thank you Mrs Cabe for just being you.
Mrs. Cabe is always there when you need her. She's never too busy for you no matter what is on her plate. She treats every child like they are her own. Heard co high school would not be where it's at without her!
There are not enough words to describe Mrs. Cabe. She is the High school mom to everyone! The ones who have graduated to the ones that fixing to the ones that are new at high school and scared to death! I will never be able to think her for everything she did when I got the privilege of having her my Sophomore year high school and until I graduated from there in 2003. She is the Heard County Braves biggest Fan well next to Edward Potts. She is our biggest cheerleader, and shoulder to cry on and like I said a mother to us all. I cant think of anyone more deserving of the award but her!

There aren't enough words to describe how much Mrs. Can means to Heard County High School. She is the heart and soul of our school. She is always willing to help in any way possible. Ms. Cabe is a very caring and loving lady. She always does more than required of her job and cares about each and everyone of the students. She is a 2nd mom to most of the kids. If anyone deserves this, Ms. Cave does!!!!
Mrs Cabe is the face of Heard High. I worked at HMS for 10 years and if I ever needed anything or had a question I knew I could count on a smiling Mrs. Cabe to help. She is an asset to the students and really anyone that walks into that school. Every school and community is not as blessed as we are to have a Mrs. Cabe.
Lori Cabe is the most selfless person that I have ever met. When I began teaching at HCHS she was one of the first people to reach out and welcome me to the Brave Nation. Lori puts the wants and needs of her family, students, friends, neighbors,fellow community members, and complete strangers before her own. She is always the first to volunteer or jump to the aid of any individual in need. She is continually supportive and infinitely forgiving. Heard County High School relies on Mrs. Cabe on a minute-to-minute basis. She is one of the most integral individuals in our positive and loving school environment. If I even tried to list her endless list of roles in our school then I would surely exceed the maximum character limit for this comment box. Lori is the ultimate role model for staff and students alike. The world would be a whole lot better place if we all had a heart like Lori Cabe.
Lori brings a whole new meaning to ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. She has been helping raise the kids if Heard County for years. She truly loves her students and treats all of them as if they were her own. As a parent, I always know i can call or text Lori and she will handle the situation. She goes beyond to care for every student. Our kids in this county are blessed to have Lori Cabe.

Lori Cabe is the go-to person for everything and anybody at our school! The amount of time she devotes to the school and its students is unreal. Her relationship with the students here have enabled many to graduate, find jobs, find motivation, and establish self-worth. As a teacher, I know that if she doesn't have an answer for a question, she will find out who does. She is definitely a life changer to countless people and is so deserving of this award.
We moved here for the school system with our son, who is in his second year at HCHS.
He was shy and felt lost until he came in coughing one day. Ms. Cade called him over immediately to check him out in official "Mom Fashion"
She called to ask if he could have a cough drop until I got there.
I came back with cough drops for him and her.
From that day forward he had a friend and it gave him so much confidence. A mother could never express how reassuring it is to know someone is watching out for their son no different than her own.
After he got his class ring he went directly to her to show it to her.
She is one of a kind. Our family is so very grateful for the love and concern she has shown our son

First thing I must say, is I am very biased towards Mama Cabe, You see I've been a lucky man to have her by my side for 28 years. She and I both have a great love for young people.
Her love for all of them is on display everyday at Heard High school. She Loves what she does and gives it 100% everyday. Without a doubt, lives have been impacted and changed as a direct result of her passion for these young people! Many times, Its as simple as lunch money or a ride or a butt chewing. Other times it is months and months of specific attention, encouragement and love that gets them through the difficulties they are dealing with. Somehow she knows what they need and helps them to see the light and find hope. She doesn't do this for the recognition, she does it because its the right thing to do! When you see the challenges many of these children are facing in todays world, you can just look the other way or you can take action. Because, after all, these young people are the future of Heard county and our country. I really can't thing of a better or more necessary purpose than to take action.

Mrs. Cabe had always help the students AT HCHS, she is like a 2nd mother to alto of them.
They just don't make them like Mrs. Cabe anymore. It's hard to even list the things she does for everyone in the school because the list is much shorter if you only list the things she doesn't do. My personal favorite response to any question is let me ask Mrs cabe. We just left another school function where she was there from daylight to dark to help make it run smoothly. Much like the saying the people are the church not the building, Mrs. Cabe is Heard County High School not 545 Main Street.

Whenever my parents had somewhere to go I always knew I could crash at her house me and her son ave been friends since 3rd grade and me and mrs cabe has always been there and she understands problems we face though fierce she is polite and a very good perosn overall
I've known this woman for years, while I have been a contractor for the school system. She has always gone above and beyond to help me out when I needed anything.
Lori Cabe is a rare individual. I have know her for the past 15 years and I am in awe of her loving kindness. Lori not only is the life blood of our beloved Heard High, she has constantly reached out to those needing love and stability in their lives. She has opened her home and heart to children who would otherwise remain lost in this world.

Going to heard county , I can guarantee any and everyone that has ever stepped foot , called or even emailed heard county knows who Ms. Cabe is! Lol she is always smiling , but she can get serious at times . And she just cares about the students. You can tell that all of the staff at heard county do genuinely care for the students and care about how we were and how our parents were. She was always a good face to see (even if you were running late and had to get a tardy note.) lol and I know if I were to see her in public I have no doubt she would give me a hug and actually remember who I am. My name is John Upchurch and I am a business partner/ vendor for Heard County High School. Lori Cabe has been a intregal part of students lives at the school. She is aware of all their needs and where they might come short. She works with me to insure all seniors have a cap and gown, that the ceremony is perfect and the students enjoy it for a lasting memory. She communicates with parents on an on going basis to make sure they are aware of what their student might need. She makes them feel like their the only senior in the class. Heard county High School and the heard community should be proud she is on campus.
Wow where should I begin this woman is the perfect expample of one of a kind she also is the sole reason I walked across the stage with my graduating class. class of 2008 so that should tell you to about how long this wonderful wonderful woman has been making a difference And some. I struggled with a sick mother failing grades all my sibling dropping out all around me but she never gave up on me or my niece Brittany Haire who also graduated with the help of Mrs cabe and one other thing she's an angel hands down in my book because every ones life she crosses paths with is truely blessed!!!!!
Mrs. Cabe has and always will be such an amazing woman. She goes way out of her way to make sure everyone is ok. She will always be "mama cabe".. So blessed to have went & graduated from such an outstanding school. If ever I had a question or concern, Mama Cabe was always the first to try her best to handle the situation. Mrs. Cabe is a wonderful person that truly make a difference. There has never been a tonite that I entered the school that she did not greet me with a smile. She had always been able to handle any question extended through a phone call or email. The positive example she sets for our children is amazing. The world could use more of her.
