LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Michaelle Soucy was nominated by her colleague, Maria Blandon.

For nearly 20 years, Ms. Soucy has changed the lives of hundreds of students at risk.  As a teacher in the Educational Alternative Outreach Program, she has worked with runaways, homeless children, substance abuse victims, and other students who have been unsuccessful in traditional schools.  Ms. Soucy has traveled and studied around the world, and she brings a wealth of knowledge to the students whom she serves.  She is a bilingual educator (French-English) who imbues her classes with a zest for cross-cultural studies, as well as the advantages of learning a second language. Through vicarious exposure to the richness of international cultures, students gain perspective on and a thirst for foreign travel.  Ms. Soucy is that rare teacher who is not only a master of her subject matter, but someone who inspires and encourages reluctant learners.
