Mrs. McSwain is a wonderful and inspiring teacher. She has a love and dedication for her students and school. She is an advocate for students, and she goes above and beyond to make connections with students and their families. Mrs. McSwain is an amazing classroom teacher who brings excitement for learning to the classroom, as well as a true love for history. Outside of her teaching role, she is the girls and boys' tennis coach. On the court, she teaches sportsmanship, dedication, honor, and teamwork. She instills in her students and athletes the belief that they can accomplish whatever they set their mind to. She is a teacher who is supportive on and off the court, and in and out of her classroom. Mrs. McSwain attends her students' events outside of school and shows a genuine interest in her students. She inspires her students to do their best and to always strive to be the best version of themselves.

Mrs.McSwain has had a big impact on my life not only in the classroom but also on the court. She loves each and everyone of her students and I am glad that I have gotten to know her so well.

Mrs. McSwain was my high school U.S. History Honors teacher at West Stanly High School. The high school years are extremely important for teenagers and they are often very influenced by their teachers. I can honestly say Carla McSwain 100% influenced me in the most positive way. She showed me how important history is in making future decisions. I still carry many of the lessons she taught me into my career as a detective. She also showed me that using humor can be an amazing learning tool and keep people engaged. I also use this in my career every single day. On countless occasions, I witnessed her kindness directly impact students who were in need of kind words, including myself. I understand there are several nominations for Lifechanger of the Year, but the nomination for Carla McSwain could not be a more accurate and well deserved nomination.

Carla is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met, and I am lucky enough to be her nephew. Everybody I have ever met has had nothing but amazing things to say about her. She is a tennis coach at her school and involves herself in various ways around the school. She plays an important part in her church through many different roles. She is honestly one of the most positive people I have ever met, and I am a better person for having her as a part of my life.

Carla has been such an inspiration to me as a beginning teacher. There is never a moment that I see her- whether that’s in the hallways or at the gym- that she doesn’t have a smile on her face and something positive to say. There are so many things that we could complain about as educators, but any time I speak with her there is nothing negative that comes out of her mouth. She is an advocate for her students and for our school. There is no one I can think of that would be more deserving of this award. The impact that she has had over her long tenure as a teacher cannot measured because even after retirement there will be a lasting affect felt all over this state and country. Carla McSwain has my vote for Life Changer of the Year!
