Position: Curriculum Specialist
School: Endy Elementary School
School District: Stanly County Schools
City, State: Albemarle, NC
Rebecca Little was nominated by her principal, Karen Nixon.
Mrs. Little models professionalism and a strong work ethic every single day. In 2019, Endy Elementary went from "Not Meeting Growth" status in 2018 to "Exceeding Growth Status". Endy also went from a school letter grade of "D" to "C" in a year.
Mrs. Little joined Endy Elementary as curriculum coach in 2017-2018. Upon joining the staff, Mrs. Little created a positive school atmosphere with her personality and willingness to investigate strategies and academic solutions. In her first year, she was known to say "we've got this," anytime staff was weary, overworked, or stressed. Mrs. Little rolled up her sleeves and went to work! As curriculum coach, she's instrumental in facilitating student academics as well as continued staff development.
"As the principal, I am the instructional leader, but having Rebecca Little is like having another instructional leader," said Nixon. "From facilitating professional development, to analyzing student data, to providing specific feedback, and even working with small groups herself, Rebecca does it all."
As a certified trainer, Mrs. Little demonstrates leadership within her district by providing Reading Research training throughout the school year. These trainings include teachers from multiple Stanly County schools. Mrs. Little provides specific feedback to staff, but she always looks for the positive first. She's always looking for ways to help teachers improve their professional practice.
When it comes to dedication to her job, Mrs. Little is top-notch. She has near perfect attendance and doesn't expect anything from educators that she doesn't expect from herself. Her personality is one that inspires you to do and be better. Every day, Mrs. Little greets the students with a good morning and a smile. She intentionally makes connections with students without having a classroom of her own.
"Rebecca is truly changing lives, one kid and one staff member at a time," said Nixon.
