LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Minerva Lazo was nominated by her colleague, Nora Galvan.

Ms. Lazo is an extraordinary individual.  She is always on the go.  Ms. Lazo has hosted library meetings and regional events, including South Texas Border Bash, 1st Book/AFT book distributions, etc.  She is involved with UIL competitions and orchestrates dancers for many events at the school and district levels.  

Kids engage in many activities, and this prompts Ms. Lazo to have extensive fundraisers to reward students for their efforts in reading, writing and research.  She develops a positive setting for all patrons and community members who may visit the library.  

Ms. Lazo invites any challenge that will help students progress.  She showers her patrons and colleagues with various activities, including breakfast with the principal to celebrate the summer reading program, pizzas for students who meet their reading goals, field trips for students to engage in author visits, etc.

"Ms. Lazo is well deserving of this award," said Galvan. "She is energized like the Ever Ready Rabbit. She does not stand still when it comes to educating our students and community in up-to-date technology applications, as well as new library standards that comply with the state and national standards."
