Maurice Moore was nominated by his former colleague, Natasha Cherry.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Moore was an exemplary principal at Rocky Mount Preparatory (RMPrep) High School. He made notable improvements at RMPrep during the school year and had a positive impact on the lives of many RMPrep scholars.
Mr. Moore utilized his efficient leadership skills to improve the lines of communication with scholars and parents. Mr. Moore established an open-door communication policy that made him easily accessible to all scholars and parents during and after the instructional day. Under Mr. Moore’s leadership, he re-established the National Honor Society (40 inductees) and various clubs and organizations that met weekly during the instructional day. In addition, Mr. Moore re-established college/university campus tours for all students.
During the 2017-18 school year, Mr. Moore created a College Acceptance Wall encouraging seniors to apply to colleges so their acceptance letters could be displayed. In total, the senior class of 76 students received more than 300 acceptance letters. More importantly, they earned nearly $1.5 million in scholarships, which far exceeded the amount earned by any of the previous graduating classes.
As an incentive, Mr. Moore implemented quarterly celebrations for scholars on the “A” and “A/B” Honor Rolls. As a result of Mr. Moore’s leadership, RMPrep experienced a significant increase in the number of scholars recognized compared to previous school years. On a monthly basis, RMPrep also held Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) celebrations to shine a spotlight on scholars who consistently demonstrated strong character traits. Under Mr. Moore’s leadership, there was a drastic reduction in the number of discipline referrals compared to previous years.
Mr. Moore provided intentional academic support by instituting Jaguar Time, establishing school-wide extended deadlines for late assignments, and opportunities to retake quizzes and tests in order to assist scholars with improving their academic achievement. Mr. Moore's extraordinary ability to analyze problems and outline necessary courses of action was invaluable. This was evident when Mr. Moore successfully advocated for the boys' varsity basketball team to play in the North Carolina 1A State Championship Playoffs after being disqualified by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. Mr. Moore established and served as an administrative liaison to the Rocky Mount Preparatory Athletic Booster Club, successfully raising more than $20,000.00 that supported several athletic programs. Additionally, Mr. Moore coordinated several Spirit Buses for scholars to attend off-campus athletic events that helped to improve the school’s culture.
Under Mr. Moore’s leadership, state standardized tests results improved. The graduation rate increased to 94.9% from 81.2%, and school-wide morale significantly improved among staff and scholars. Mr. Moore made a concentrated effort to ensure the facilities were well-maintained. Mr. Moore led by example and never hesitated to clean up trash, or move furniture around. He did what he felt needed to be done to keep the appearance of the school intact. Mr. Moore’s willingness to do whatever needed to be done around the building had a direct impact on scholars taking pride in the aesthetics of the campus.
Mr. Moore goes above and beyond for his scholars. The respect that Mr. Moore shows to them is reciprocated and evident from his interactions with all former RMPrep scholars under his principalship. Mr. Moore touched all of their lives in some way, and to this day, they speak fondly of him. Some of his scholars even refer to him as the father they never had.
One example of his positive impact was when he encouraged a troubled scholar, who was constantly involved in fights and failing academically during her freshmen year, to campaign for the Student Government Association (SGA) President position. As a result of Mr. Moore’s encouragement and mentorship, that scholar became the SGA President and improved her grades significantly. This is one of many examples of how Mr. Moore’s exemplary leadership helped change the culture of RMPrep and the lives of many RMPrep scholars.

This award is well deserved. He was not only a great principal to the students at Rocky Mount Prep. He was a great role model, leader, and man that not just say he cared but showed through his actions. He showed up for his school family. He was not just holding a seat to gain a check. He made sure respect was earned and given. He held others accountable for their actions to keep the environment positive and safe for everyone. As my son mentioned he drove 2 hours to deliver my sons scholarship when he was off to college on a Saturday. Thats just who he was always helping the students become successful and remain confident in who they strive to become. I could go on and on but Im sure u all get the point of how Mr Moore is a life changer for many. All lives mattered to him and he showed it daily!!
Mr. Moore is an extraordinary leader. He was the liaison to the RMPrep Booster Club and a major supporter of the idea when it was presented to him as the high school principal. During his tenure as principal the booster club was able to raise over $20,000 to support the athletic department.
He also provided ways for the students to be successful academically while attending Prep by allowing them to do make up quizzes, encouraging teachers to offer tutoring sessions, and provided space study time in between classes. His passion shows in everything that he involves himself in and that’s what brings comfort to us as parents when leaving our children in the care of others on a daily basis. Even now that my son is a High school graduate, he still reaches out to make sure he is on a path to success. This nomination/award is fitting for a man with such great characteristics.
Mr. Moore was an exemplary school leader. He gave me my first job in education years ago and it’s only been up since I’ve been hired. I am so grateful that he’s saw something in me and decided to give me a chance! He’s so deserving of this honor!
Mr. Moore was the best principal my son Josh ever had. He went above and beyond the standard principal role and actually connected with him in such a positive way. Mr. Moore was one of the prime reasons as to why my high school experience was unforgettable. His kindness and unselfishness is what I will never forget. His hard work and never ending dedication to the well-being of his students reflects who he is as an educator and individual overall. Mr. Moore was my principal for 2 years, this man change the culture of Rocky Mount Prep and my life. He always put me in a position to lead and to see the bigger picture to things. He always went out of his way to support us and always showed that he genuinely cared. He made us feel like we were somebody. A moment I will I always remember is when the school granted me scholarship check for college, I left town on Saturday to move in to my dorm at North Carolina A&T before I could receive my scholarship. I could not come back to receive it but Mr. Moore went out his way to drive 2 hours to drop me off scholarship check and see me off to college forever grateful. Thank you!
Mr. Moore was the ABSOLUTE Best principal. I say that to say this Mr.Moore is a very concerning person. He was always concerned about the students and our education . I want you to know I continue to be amazed how you have held the same values and love for kids. When you lived in Marion we didn't know how to take you and what your purpose was for being here. But still today you have left s positive impact on or community that the adults are still referring to you. Mr. Moore is currently my Assistant Principal at Vance County High School. During my first couple of weeks Mr. Moore made sure to check in with me and to encourage me to keep up the good work. He has jumped in the vehicle with me to do home visits as a support. He is always out and about getting to know students and staff. Growing up, Mr. Moore was my mentor with the Helping Hands mentoring organization and he’s instilled so much love and knowledge to continue out the work of a young man. He is the main reason why I’ve joined and also become an administrator for nonprofit mentoring organization here in Greensboro.
I didn’t know mr.moore personally because he was there before I came into high school and came back when I left prep and decides to go to another school . But what many people have said and I heard was that he was an AMAZING principal! I never heard anything bad about him .
Mr. Moore was my principal for my tenth grade year. He was a great role model for us and was someone we could look up to and respect. He made sure to build a bond with his students whether it was just asking how they were doing or helping work out the problems we were faced with. Mr. Moore personally sat down and talked with me and my family when I was going through some legal issues. He made sure that I learnt from my mistake and made sure that I was on the right track that I needed to be on. Mr. Moore didn’t demand respect, he earned it. He was one of my favorite principals in all my years of school. I respected him greatly as a principal and as a person.
I am honored to recommend Mr. Maurice Moore for the Life Changer Award. I met him 15 years ago when our sons played T-ball at the local youth center. Maurice is very professional, courteous, and motivated. He is enthusiastic and compassionate about helping young people. Maurice has been dedicated to his profession for as long as I have known him. His desire to help young people succeed in education and life skills is what I admire most about him. He is an outstanding individual with great leadership skills and has proven it over and over again both personally and professionally.
Maurice has made a tremendous impact in the community; particularly by mentoring young men. My family still remembers how Maurice spent time with his son and our son on countless occasions especially as they grew to be teenagers. I applaud him for the patience and perseverance he has for sharing life’s lessons with our future leaders. Mr. Moore is an exemplary role model and most definitely a change agent! For those of you that don't know Maurice Moore, let me help you get to know him a little better. His profile above is impressive and accurately describes his most recent life changing attributes, but you don't know that he has been a life changer long before now. I have known Maurice since 2006 when our children were in Kindergarten at A. B. Combs Leadership Magnet Elementary. Maurice Moore was (and still is) an extremely active parent demonstrating leadership and changing lives every day. I have seen him on countless field trips from the kindergarten day trip to the 5th grade overnight camping trip. I've seen him coaching football & track year after year. Maurice Moore has always been a life changer. Teaching, guiding, developing and encouraging young minds into their very best every day. I am so happy to see that his actions may finally be recognized for all his years of service.
Mr.Moore is an awesome administrator. He greets students with a smile & asks about their day. Whenever needed he lends a listening ear.

Mr. Moore is a person with less of him and more of others. Since I’ve been the girls basketball coach, I’ve witness Mr. Moore give up his time to develop the potential not only for students but the staff as well. He has given me inspirational encouragement so I can continue to impact my players on and off the court. Yes, he is a “Life Changer”.
I have never met a principal that values his students more than Mr. Moore. He is a life changer!
I first met Mr. Moore around 1998 when I was sophomore at Enloe High School (Raleigh, NC). Mr. Moore was such an influential person during my matriculation. He was always very positive, uplifting, and encouraging. He pushed me to do my very best as a track athlete, but most importantly as a student. He is extremely approachable and possesses what it takes to work with others, especially students. Mr. Moore has changed and continues to change the lives of those he connects with.
Mr.Moore was one of the main reasons I loved school. Mr.Moore made sure no one was left behind and fought for us in many different ways.He cared for every student and teacher no matter what.I can honestly say that he inspired me to continue in believing in my self and gave me faith in others.All I have to say is thank you Mr.Moore. Mr. Moore always made sure everybody was ok, he put his student’s wellbeing before anything and I think that’s what makes a lot of the students appreciate him so much. He never gave us any unnecessary attitudes not unless he needed to and he always kept a smile on his face.
Mr moore was the best principle who we could go to and talk to about anything school related or personal issues always giving advice and helping with school work making sure we were on our grades especially if we played sports.
Mr. Moore served as an assistant principal at Hillside High School directly leading many departments including my department, Career and Technical Education. Upon his arrival, it was apparent that he was a strong yet compassionate leader. He motivated the entire department to identify opportunities to serve in a leadership capacity in the school community. There is a quote that says “Leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders.'' This quote exemplifies Mr. Moore's service to our school as an administrator. He saw potential in everyone, students and teachers, and was instrumental in supporting our individual development. As a teacher, you could always count on Mr.Moore to support you in the classroom. No matter what, he always made himself available to help. During his tenure, I was a new teacher, and his support and mentorship was integral in my transition into various leadership roles. I am thankful for his guidance, and wholeheartedly believe he deserves this recognition.

As a principal he made sure to make an effort to engage and inspire every student in the High School.
Mr Moore helped me my junior year get out of school a whole year early. I told him one of the teacher said I wouldn't be able to graduate early like I planned he asked me was it what i wanted to do I said yes. He set me up classes that summer and made sure I didn't see a 12th grade year as long as I passed. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be where I am today today. He is an excellent principal and great individual.
Mr.Moore was my principal at Rocky Mount Prep in Rocky Mount, NC. While the school did not have a good reputation, Mr. Moore tried to exemplify an golden standard, he treats his students with respect and he genuinely cares about everyone that he comes across. While I was at Prep, Mr.Moore made sure that I was on top of my education, he made sure I stayed out of trouble like he did all of his students. I really hope that the committee makes the right decision and give Maurice Moore the Life Changer of The Year award. He truly deserves it.
The purpose of this communication is to provide a recommendation for Mr. Maurice Moore candidate for the Life Changer of the Year Award.
Mr. Moore was a wonderful principal at Rocky Mount Prep. He is extremely understanding, caring and works really hard to make students and parents feel valued to ensure successful school climate.
Student needs. The school decided to change the dress code. I found shirt, tie and pants to meet the new dress code, however having a child who wears a size 18 shoe posed a problem. As a single parent it was a struggle financially and physically. Dress shoes were no where to found in or surrounding shopping centers within 60 mile radius. I had to turn to the internet to locate dress shoes to fit him, but did not have the funds to purchase them. When Mr. Moore heard of this he inquired where I had located shoes to fit him. A few weeks later my son came home with a brand new pair of dress shoes.
Listen to concerns. My childrens ride was a little over 30 miles one way to school. Each day I, along with other parents would drop off and pick up our children at the designated bus stop, which was outside our county. With Mr. Moores guidance I was contacted individuals and explained if students are accepted to charter school, then a compromise should be reached to bring the bus to a central location in the county they reside in. A bus stop was established in the county within a three radius of students homes.
Attendance. At the time I was helping to take care of my mother who was total care patient. Many days and nights was spent taking care of her and making sure my two boys were taken care of too. I'd managed to purchase an old car so they would have transportation to and from school (participate in sports activities, etc.). Mr. Moore helped keep my two son's in school, after they decided to take advantage of the situation and skip school. He wrote a letter to the state, talked with teachers and mist important to them. Needless to say, they did not graduate on time but they graduated!
Graduation. Mr. Moore attended both graduation and with hundreds of people all around, he made it point to seek them out, inquire about their future plans and offer words of encouragement.
Mr. Moore is truely the best candidate for the Life Changer of the Year Award.
Mr. Moore was interactive with everyone, everyday and had treated everyone the same. He also gave us chances to get things right.
Mr. Moore was by far Rocky Mount Prep’s best principal. Not only was Mr. Moore a principal to students , some of us looked up to Mr. Moore as a father that some of them didn’t have. Mr. Moore made a big impact on our lives in such little time of him being there. Mr. Moore didn’t only care about keeping a close relationship with his students , he thought about his student’s parents. He cared about who was most important in our lives as well.
Mr. Moore has proven to be an amazing school leader. Mr. Moore’s calm demeanor is and asset in many turbulent situations with staff and our students. As an educator you appreciate colleagues such as Mr. Moore and their willingness to be effective team members.
We are blessed to have Mr. Moore in Vance County.
Being an educator is important work, it is life changing work that requires special people who truly care about children. I believe Mr. Moore is such an educator, he goes beyond the call of duty to ensure that students and staff have everything that they need- on a daily basis, in order to be successful; his devotion to education and children is relentless. Since joining the VCHS staff as administrator, his work has already made a marked and positive difference to school culture. Mr Moore came at a very important time, when our school had an opportunity for restart and to shift its paradigm. His work is directly aligned with the vision that district administrators communicated to stakeholders. Mr. Moore started the Educator Recognition Program for teachers who did outstanding work in their classrooms as measured by data. He also created the first cohort of teachers to be trained on how to incorporate ZSPACE technology in their teaching to improve pedagogy, boost student engagement, and ultimately achievement. He also started the Attendance Recovery Program to help students makeup time missed due to unexcused absences. The ARP would also help students to stay on track for graduation-matriculating with their class and simultaneously boost the school's graduation rate. To successfully carry out the goals of the ARP Mr. Moore had to stay at school until 8 pm some nights, working with students! This is the level of self-less dedication, hard work, and passion required to change people’s lives.
As the administrator in charge of instruction, Mr. Moore standardized and strengthened PLCs, he also introduced the Educator's Handbook to the school, allowing administrators to respond more efficiently to disciplinary issues, while tracking data digitally to minimize OSS rate. I have seen students change the way they resolve conflicts whereby before they react negatively they walk away from the situation and seek Mr. Moore's help. Teachers, including myself, have been able to sit in dialogue with Mr. Moore to discuss and seek solutions to challenging issues we face- both personal and professional. He is an innovator, visionary, problem solver, forward thinker, strong communicator, effective leader, advocate for children, game changer, life changer! When someone is able to maintain a spirit of positivity in-spite of what is happening around him/her, then change the trajectory of events around him/her regardless of where he/she goes, and work relentlessly for the good of others, that is a life changer! I have come to understand that this is the level of dedication and commitment Mr. Moore has displayed in education for approximately 30 years!! Maurice Moore is a life changer and the embodiment of this award!! I can think of no one more deserving! Moore4thewin always!
Mr. Moore was a great principal and role model who did his best to run a high school and still change his students lives. Mr. Moore helped keep so many youth at Prep on the right track and make sure they were mentally ok as well as academically well.
Mr. Moore is an amazing administrator, as a physical education teacher Mr. Moore finds different ways to help me as a teacher and elevate my skills. Mr. Moore has a bond with the students at VCHS that is genuine. His door is always open and he is willing to go the extra mile for his staff and students.

Mr. Moore was pivotal in helping gain work experience as a teenager through the helping hands mentoring program. Not only did he allow me to volunteer, but he then hired me, boosting my work confidence and allowing me to develop in professional development. Furthermore, Mr. Moore recognized my work ethic and helped me get my first job outside of the mentoring program. He went above and beyond to help support me grow as a professional and an individual. I am forever grateful.
I met Mr. Maurice Moore while attending W.G. Enloe High School in the late 90's. He was my Cooperative Learning teacher at the time. Of course, when students first meet a teacher, well at least at Enloe, you tend to challenge them and Mr. Moore stood up to our challenges, EVERYTIME. My class was a very intelligent, yet rambunctious group of of jokesters! Mr. Moore not only meshed well with us, but he made us laugh just as much as he made us think about what we were going to do in the future. Especially about the real life experiences, we were destined to approach. Mr. Moore made sense of a lot of things for us, that we took for granted. Most of us attended class, worked for a portion of the day, then we reported back to him. This was us learning to be adults. Some of the kids in the class with me had never thought about going to college and were just focused on the next step of graduating. Mr. Moore pushed us all to want more for ourselves and he definitely impacted me, personally. I went on to apply for multiple schools, attend and graduate from NC A&T State University, which is one of the best decisions I ever made!
After graduating from high school, I forgot some teachers, but never Mr. Moore, he made a lasting impression on me. I have seen him from time to time, over the years and its always like being in class with him, picking up on a conversation. Mr. Moore asked me to Mentor a student whose behavior reminded him of me and I thought to myself, Mr. Moore thinks highly of me and he must see a difference in me from then to now, it made me proud. With his leadership and the way he related to my class, a great deal of the students I graduated with went on to College. This is something he is consistent at and I appreciate him for all he has done for me. Mr. Moore has gone from one place to another, county to county, school to school dropping jewels and leaving his mark of excellence. Mr. Moore deserves this award and so much more!
My journey with Mr. Moore began in Wake County Public School System where he exhibited impeccable leadership skills throughout the county and in the community. He organized and lead a mentoring program for African-American boys that was designed to counteract negative influences that hinder the student’s academic and social development while improving academic achievement skills, building positive self-esteem, building interpersonal relationships, developing leadership skills, and building a positive support network with parents. No child was beyond his reach; therefore, he gave new meaning to the coined phrase "No Child Left Behind" in this program. His leadership role extended outside the walls of the school program and into the community of the children and parents that he aspired to reach. His dedication and commitment to students and children were exemplary to other leaders in that he would enter into his personal time and family time to help meet the needs of any student; yet he maintained a positive balance for all. He presented a stern stature with colleagues and expected great work ethics to ensure that every agenda item was completed with love and perfection; however, through it all he would always make everyone he worked with feel important and special regardless of their role. His expectations of those he worked with was to be the best that you can be and love what you do. He always tasked individuals to build leadership skills while doing their jobs so they to can be dynamic leaders one day. Mr. Moore was never selfish, never sought fame, nor sought to be the only great leader. He would always encourage and help others to advance socially, emotionally, and professionally. Mr. Moore definitely exhibit the characteristics of a Life Changer and is an authentic Life Changer. Mr. Moore deserves this award and more for his relentless commitment and service to the children, parents, schools, communities and his colleagues.
Maurice has always been a role model for many children of single parents. He has always gone above and beyond without looking for something in return. I can remember him filling up his ford Taurus with as many kids as he could safely just to take them and groom them to be positive and strong men. It takes a village and thanks for being apart ..
Maurice is an educational giant and asset to the field. I met him in 2007 when I was a Principal Intern at Reedy Creek MS. It was then that I found out about the Helping Hands Mentoring Program. I’ve always had a passion to close the educational achievement gap that impacts Black boys in K-12 settings. Maurice showed me that such impact can occur outside of the classroom to address the socio-emotional and mentoring needs of youth. I participated in HH for one year as a mentor but was exposed to central office functions through Moore and his supervisor. The two were great systems thinkers and role models for me. After transitioning out of the intern role and Wake Co. PS, I stayed in contact with Moore. He continued to be a support. He ignited a passion for greater change in me -unknowingly. Soon after, I transitioned into a principal role in Charlotte, NC. I took lesson with me on how to be a change agent (2010-15). Five years after that role, I transitioned into a district leadership role, where I supervised principals in Oklahoma City (2015-19). I was successful in launching a district wide Black Male Initiative for the district, modeled after the structure HH introduced to me. I now function as a principal supervisor in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and continue to be driven by being a change agent. Moore is worthy of this nomination. He is a change agent and is bound for great success. Onward, my brother.
I was coaching at the time when Mr. Moore told me at Broughton H.S. to study the curriculum a lot more than my playbooks. That paid off for me because I’m over at Garner H.S. teaching ECE 1 and 2. The program was in shambles but I turned it around in one year because I knew curriculum. Thank you for those words of wisdom 7 years ago. Mr. Moore is a perfect example of a life changer.
Mr. Moore is truly someone who cares and actually takes the time to hear what the students have to say. He was the best principal I’ve ever had throughout my years in school. Instead of just doing the things he HAD to do, he went out and beyond to do things for us that he truly wanted to do as a principal, mentor, and a listening ear for anyone who needed it. Mr. Moore always gets the job done and makes sure that everyone is heard. There was truly a different culture at our school, and it made me realize that some educators do actually care about more than just their job. I graduated almost 4 years ago and to this day I still remember all the things he did for us as a whole.
In conclusion/wrapping up of the nomination process, I wanted to highlight some things. I first met Mr. Moore during his 1st tenure at Rocky Mount Prep in 2013.
I have been around educators all of my life, both male and female! I have met, admired and worked with various Principals. Mr. Moore is the first Principal that I have ever wanted to unconditionally support! Because he gets it, he sees the troubled child and just wants him or her to be loved and supported the way they should be....the way he loves and supports his own child! For this and various reasons, my family and I will consistently support Mr. Moore. The principal that became family to many of us at RM Prep!
Recently, Mr. Moore reached out to me in hopes of finding someone to sponsor a Student Recognition Celebration that he had planned for the students under his administration at VCHS that made the A/B Honor Roll. His words to me were; “I want to change the culture and recognize students for the positive things and not just the negative”. A group of anonymous donors helped me collect the funds and we donated to this cause, to ensure that students receive positive recognition from administration when the efforts that they put forth produced positive results! We respected Mr. Moore’s initiative and remembered how he advocated for positive change at Rocky Mount Prep! We were compelled to help him and his students in any way we could.
Mr. Moore cares(I mean genuinely cares), he is thoughtful and calm! In serving the public, these character traits are quintessential! God perfectly crafted him to be an educator, he is living his purpose!

Mr. Moore served as an assistant principal at Hillside High School directly leading many departments including my department, Career and Technical Education. Upon his arrival, it was apparent that he was a strong yet compassionate leader. He motivated the entire department to identify opportunities to serve in a leadership capacity in the school community. There is a quote that says “Leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders.'' This quote exemplifies Mr. Moore's service to our school as an administrator. He saw potential in everyone, students and teachers, and was instrumental in supporting our individual development. As a teacher, you could always count on Mr.Moore to support you in the classroom. No matter what, he always made himself available to help. During his tenure, I was a new teacher, and his support and mentorship were integral in my transition into various leadership roles. I am thankful for his guidance, and wholeheartedly believe he deserves this recognition.

I met Mr Maurice Moore over 20 years ago as a teenager in my hometown. His influence was immediate as he was a walking example of success and support in our small community. He was a huge advocate for me, bringing direction and guidance during my transition from high school to college and I credit him as a key reason to my success for teaching me to dream bigger and leading through proper action. Decades later it is a joy to see him still impacting the lives of youth, there is no one more deserving of life changer of the year.

During my transition to being the high school Social Worker at Vance County Schools Mr. Moore has made my transition a great experience. I have observed his interaction with the students and staff. He is always available and open for discussion. He is a great leader for our school district and goes above and beyond to ensure that all of our students excel beyond their expectations.
Mr. Moore is everything anyone could imagine in an administrator. His leadership, dedication, compassion and remarkable ability to relate to his students, their parents and his peers are only a few things that make him an asset to the school system and community.
Mr. Moore is an exemplary leader in Vance County Schools. Mr. Moore is a life changer in that he seeks innovative strategies to decrease opportunity gaps for students in VCHS. Mr. Moore collaborated with district leaders to provide secondary teachers with an opportunity to learn how to implement web based instruction by using zspace technology. Zspace is technology that combines elements of virtual and augmented reality in a computer. Zspace is a new way of learning for students and because of Mr. Moore's efforts, students in non-science courses will have exposure to this technology because of the teachers completing the training as a direct result of Mr. Moore's leadership.
I met Mr. Moore coming in as a freshman and I can say my class came in stirring up so much trouble for him but he always remained calm with us. When he walk in the room during his morning rounds (he had this thing where he would walk to every class just to tell everyone “good morning”) everyone would light up with smiles on their faces. He wasn’t like most principles, he knew how to let us have fun when it was appropriate and let us be ourselves without judgement. Everyone knew that they could go to him about anything and it was a safe place, he was our safe place. We grew with him for two years and the next school year we went into without him was by far the worst. We lost our light, our safe place, a friend but most importantly the best principal anyone could ask for. He changed so many of Rocky Mount Prep student lives in so little time. The two years we had with him, are were my most cherished high school memories hide. So to whatever company, school or business that has Mr. Moore presence, you have been blessed by god himself. I honestly believe that Mr.Moore deserves this award because as a student at Vance County High School, He is the only staff member that asks students how our day is going or do we need anything. Mr. Moore was our Principal at Rocky Mount Prep when I started my freshman year in high school. The best Principal Prep ever had! One year, I injured my knee! Mr. Moore made sure I was good throughout the day. He escorted me to my classes and when he couldn’t he made sure I had some one by my side. At Rocky Mount Prep, all the kids would fondly joke about his head! We would signal when Mr. Moore was coming down the hall and everybody would be on their best behavior. Lol! We would do this because he was respectful of the students which made the students respect him and his authority. I met a girl from Hillside High my freshman year of college, and she and I shared fond memories of Mr. Moore! I am currently completing my senior year of college and plan on continuing my education. I appreciate everything Mr. Moore did for me and the students at RM Prep! Mr. Moore is truly a LifeChanger!
Mr. Moore has been a great asset to our school. I am a junior at the high school & I can say he brings a sense of structure but also gives the students a relationship where it isn't all about being the person telling them what to do. His personality as well as his relationship with teachers is outstanding! I am really grateful to be able to have him as an Assistant Principle.
Mr. Moore has an extensive background in working with students and families. He was instrumental in the Helping Hands Program in Wake County Public Schools. Helping Hands was a male mentoring program that provided activities and leadership skills for African American boys. Mr. Moore worked extremely hard to ensure this program had adequate resources. He also provided educational opportunities for parents in the form of workshops that assisted parents with educational strategies to enhance their child's academic progress. His body of work, over a period of time, speaks for itself. I highly recommend Mr. Moore for this award. He is definitely a Life Changer!

I truly enjoyed working under the leadership of Mr. Maurice Moore. He was a true leader in that he was always looking to improve his school and figure out how to make those improvements regardless of how difficult it might be. He was adept at building relationships with his staff, and growing his staff. The first conversation he had upon hiring me was where did I see myself in 5 years. His goal was always to grow staff and never hold anyone back. Lastly, of all the principals I have worked for, I have never seen a principal have the relationship he had with the student body. The students knew he was accessible, supportive of them, and most of all, wanted them to be successful. Mr. Moore was the first to show up for any event, and the last to leave. This honor is so fitting for him. He has changed the lives of many, including mine.

I met Maurice Moore in 2008 when I became his Secretary for almost 2 months it was a temporary posiiton that did not become permanent. But in those 2 months he gave me alot of career and life advice. It was my first position after finishing college so i had some learning i needed to do. He always gave me great advice that i still use now in my professional career. We have kept in touch over the years when he was a principal at Broughton High School. He cares about students and his employees. I met Mr. Moore several years ago where he was a Coach for my son's Parks and Rec basketball team. He was always encouraging the boys and ensuring that they worked as a team. He helped those kids that had little confidence in their abilities become confident basketball players. He was a positive role model for those boys and they enjoyed coming to practice and even asking to have additional practices. My son still talks about this year as being one of the best. Mr. Moore embodies what it means to be a team player, positive role model and a great man. These boys really looked up to him.

My junior year of high-school I was in a academy at Wesleyan College I had to present a presentation upon my business that was in the making. Mr. Moore was a excellent principal. He made sure Rockymount preparatory had order and fixed a lot of problems. When I first came to Rockymount preparatory Highschool in 2011 it lacked a lot of discipline but he changed that. He also had times when he was engaged and had fun with the students. He was the best principal I had in high school.
I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Moore when he was the Senior Director for Helping Hands Mentoring Program in Wake County Public School System. He is a patient and compassionate inviduial. I saw how he wanted to be a positive role model and run an effective program for the African American male population. Mr. Moore provided resources for students and their parents to aid them in their growth in life where they could progress and become successful. The title Life Changer of the Year describes? There are times when you run across someone whose presence is just worth noting. When this man come into our school system, you did"t here a word from him. He walked quietly and did his job with no noise. He carried himself as a professional with unassuming character. My students wanted to know who this person was that never raised his voice, very polite, and when he smiles, they all wanted to be around him. Angry students wanted to go to him because he was caring and compassionate. Even when he was firm, his gentleness was soft spoken and the children love it. I myself notice how his professionalism has never been above a whisper. He is an assistant principal that demonstrates motivation, stimulation, determination of the greatest. The district has been blessed to have such a great person in our system. No only is he well deserving but its has been a great honor to work with such a wonderful person.

I met Mr. Moore 18 years ago as coworkers at Wake Forest-Rolesville Middle School where he was an exemplary CTE Teacher. With my excellent typing skills, he challenged me to come to his classroom to show his keyboarding students an example of his expectations for them to succeed in his classroom. I could say a lot about Mr. Moore especially being a father of two children who attended the school were he was principal but what really stood out to me was that he didn’t just want to be a principal on the job for a pay check but that he really kept in touch with the students and parents making sure every child wasn’t left behind.He was a true advocate for the children.Need more like him.

In addition, he works well with mentoring children and youth, as well as mentoring others, like him, to initiate, implement and conduct effective programming and execute projects within Wake County’s Helping Hands, at various school sites. Mr. Moore is a motivator and is able to reach the untapped potential in others. For example, he was very influential in helping me embark on a career beyond a teacher’s assistant and encouraged me to pursue teaching through Teach Up. Upon his encouragement and suggestion, I was able to complete the program, and has an even greater impact and influence, by becoming a 7th-grade science teacher through the program. He continued to encourage others to reach new levels and is an advocate for youth development and success.

Maurice Moore moved to my small town when I was just a teenager! He became a youth leader at my church, and he was able to connect with us in a way that made us excited about getting to youth meeting each week! I was pretty shy as a teenager and I was one of those kids that just sort of flew under the radar! I remember during my graduation from high school, Maurice came and brought most of the kids from my youth group and what I will NEVER forget is when they called my name to walk the stage, Maurice and my entire youth group was cheering so loud for me! This was a huge deal for me because I always flew under the radar, never really feeling like I was seen. On this day, I felt like I was seen, and it left an impact on me! He made each of us feel important and he made a big deal of our accomplishments! Maurice was young and he wasn’t working in education at the time, but he has always had the characteristics of a life changer! He didn’t just impact me, but a community of kids who are now grown, but have never forgot the man who made us feel seen!!!
I have had the pleasure of knowing Mr.Moore for over 10 years. We met when I was the head coach of his sons, Ryan, t-ball team. The first practice, he clearly realized I was lost, he stepped in and showed me how to run an organized practice on the fly. From that day going forward, he was my assistant coach on paper, but in reality, he was the head coach. I wish to congratulate Maurice Moore for being nominated for the Life Changer of the Year Award. I first met Maurice Moore more than twenty years ago when he was a business teacher at Enloe High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. I remember Mr. Moore being an outgoing, energetic, and engaging teacher. He talked about doing great things for his students and doing great things within the field of education. Mr. Moore cared for his students and his drive to provide the best education possible for students led Maurice to pursue a career in administration. As evidence shows with him being nominated for the Life Changer of the Year Award, Mr. Moore never lost his focus and the drive to serve students by providing them with the best learning environment and chance to prosper and be successful in the classroom. Maurice Moore’s service record demonstrates his professional and civic dedication to our community. Mr. Moore, when I heard of this nomination I had to visit the site to leave a comment in your support. I knew when I met you four years or so ago that you have passion for the work you do. Coming into the inner city school where I served is difficult for most, but you were - are resilient. When staff, and even students, are resistant to change it can be frustrating. You faced each day with a goal. Your presence made more of a difference than you will ever know. Although you were appointed to Freshmen Academy you made an effort to touch each student that needed care and advocacy. Your stature can be intimidating to some initially, but your pleasant and positive demeanor is the key that opens doors and affords you the opportunity to build those trusting rapports with students and their families. With you over the academy, you changed the statistics in that school. It was apparent in your diligence with the late hours and weekends I would see you at the school. Working closely with you in my case management there was rewarding because you choose to be a part of the "work" I was diligently putting forth effort to usher students into academic success, as I gently stressed the importance of each to take ownership of their education. My name is Danny Ward, and I worked with Mr. Moore at Rocky Mount Prep. I was the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director. I've never seen anyone that cared for ALL children the way he does. He touched and changed many lives positively, including mine. He has earned and deserves any accolade that may come his way.
Mr. Moore was my business coop teacher at Enloe High school during my senior year. Which I’m guessing was his 1st or 2nd year teaching because he didnt look much older than us students himself. As a new teacher at the school he was highly respected by students as he treated each of us with respect from day one. Mr. Moore was an amazing educator, he seemed to take the time to learn something about each student and treated us all as the young adults we were becoming. He ensured every business lesson/concept he taught was also a teachable moment aimed at preparing us for the workforce and real world. As I look back, I want to thank Mr.Moore as he was definitely one of those educators that has greatly influenced the path that I have chosen.

It is said that “True heroes often times don’t stand out in the world, but they make lasting differences in someone’s life”. Maurice Moore has made a difference in the lives of countless young boys, young girls, their families and the communities they live in. Teacher, role model and influencer are just a few words used to describe Mr. Moore. He has poured his passion and inspiration for teaching into our young boys and girls challenging them to learn more, do more and to become good citizens. I first encountered Mr. Moore when he became the High School Principal at RM Prep, where my son attended school. My son came home almost everyday talking about Mr. Moore. I had never seen someone have that much of an impact and garner the respect of his students and parents the way that Mr. Moore has. As a parent of one of his former students, I am glad to say he has impacted the life of my son for the better. Congratulations, on being nominated for the “LifeChanger of the Year Award”. I don’t know of any other person more deserving of the Life Changer of the year award than Mr. Maurice Moore. To be an educator is one thing but to be a caring educator is something all together different. I know Mr. Moore not only to be a caring educator but also a man of standard. Maurice Moore truly cares about the educational development of the kids at his present and past schools but also the neighborhood kids, the troubled kids, the kids with great parental guidance, Mr. Moore has a caring heart for all kids. This is always exemplified when you speak with him as he’s always inquiring about how this kid or that kid is doing. I’ve seen Mr. Moore create educational reading programs during the summer for kids. These programs were created independently of any school. Mr. Moore wanted the kids to continue to excel and get better over the summer months so he cared enough to create the opportunities for the kids. To a lot of kids this extra learning activity can impact their lives in so many positive ways. If I had a vote that counted there is no doubt that Mr. Maurice Moore would get my vote hands down for this award.

Maurice Moore truly embodies the title of life changer, not only for his past students, but any teacher who has had the opportunity to serve under his leadership. He empowers his staff and trusts them to lead in their professional realm. I was given several opportunities to lead through creating experiences for my students under Mr. Moore’s leadership. These opportunities helped me consider ways in which I could become a dynamic teacher leader and has given me confidence in my abilities as an educator.
In regards to his students, Mr.Moore taught every student the value of academic excellence through holding students accountable and helping them become active participants in their education. He helped students visualize their next steps after high school and gave them the tools to propel them in the right direction. Under his leadership, Rocky Mount Preparatory high school was able to increase their graduation rate and build a culture for college readiness.
Mr. Moore built a rapport with students from very diverse backgrounds and showed every student he cared about them. He encouraged college tours, internships, and college acceptance. He taught numerous students to be aware of their progress through constantly checking their grades and calculating their gpa. He also taught students how to respectfully advocate for themselves for their academic success. Maurice Moore has been a life changer for many students through several selfless acts where he’s put students first. He is also a life changer for numerous teachers through his empowerment.
I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Moore when I was a mentor for the School/Community Helping Hands Mentoring Program. This was a male mentoring program of the Wake County Public School System. The mission of the program was to provide academic and personal development support services to African-American male students, while enabling their parents to effectively utilize educational and community resources, which will enhance positive student outcomes. Under Mr. Moore's leadership, the mentors were able to support and encourage the young men in developing positive self-images and improving their school performance. Mr. Moore demonstrated strong character and a willingness to commit time to the program. In addition, Mr. Moore established a positive support network in both school and community in order to offer African-American male students unique help toward success in school and life.
During his time at Hillside High School, Mr. Moore was an amazing assistant Principal. He always welcomed everyone with a smile and a positive attitude. Mr. Moore was helpful in assisting teachers to reach their goals of being successful in helping students to reach mastery in the subject area. He had an excellent rapport with the students. Honestly speaking, Mr. Moore is just an overall great educator.
As a new teacher this is my first time working with Mr. Moore. He has been supportive, helpful, and and overall outstanding administrator. He builds positive and strong relationships with students and staff and is always challenging everyone around him to progress to take the next step. His kind spirit amongst all of the many other things are reasons why he is a great leader!

Looking back on my time spent at RM Prep, I experienced a myriad of changes from the schools transition into and back out of online learning. The school then had an abnormal amount of replacements in staff and there seemed to be no familiarity between teachers and students.
Within this experience, Maurice Moore, the man newly tasked with piecing this problem together, stood out with his patience, leadership, and approachability. He was able and willing to sit with any student, urging us to explore the best in ourselves. He made time for and gave a listening ear to any problems we had, no matter how petty or unreasonable. Whether it was an early morning greeting, or a late night post game chat, he was always encouraging and smiling. I’m grateful to have had an unvarying role model during this crucial part of my life.

I had the pleasure of being coached by “Coach Moore” from the mid to late 90s. I first met him as a youth summer track coach, then in 1998 (my freshman year) he came on as the track coach for Southeast Raleigh High School. In this role, his commitment to our team was tangible. Our school was newly built and the track hadn’t been constructed yet. He’d pack us in his station wagon and transport us to the nearest open track for practice. He sought out challenging meets for us to attend and encouraged us to push beyond our self-imposed limits. While he possesses a mild demeanor, he was no pushover. He knew exactly how the yield the best results from group of rambunctious teenagers. Over 20 years later, I still smile at the fond memories.
I have known Maurice Moore for more than twenty years. My first impression was and still is his genuine love for children. As a colleague he exemplified love, compassion and caring for the less fortunate and helped to make all children feel valuable. As a mentor for boys in the Wake County School/Community Helping Hands project he sought to bring his students to a level of learning that helped them to succeed in the classroom as well as their community. After my retirement I learned that he had become the director of the program and took it to a higher level of importance within the district. Maurice Moore exemplifies all the characteristics that every person should have who work with children.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Maurice Moore (Coach Moore, as I call him) through him coaching me in Track and Field. Coach Moore has always been a extraordinary leader and mentor to many of us under his direction. You can always count on Coach Moore for a positive attitude and encouraging words. He gave you his best in all situations so that you can grow and overcome.

The Army has been a huge blessing in my life and in the life of my family as it has given me the opportunity to change our direction of our lives. I have fully embraced this change, by taking advantage of the paradigm shift that it caused mentally with management and leadership trainings. It has provided countless opportunities for me to experience and see much of the world that God has created and meet people from diverse places. I love the Army because of the limitless and matchless opportunities it provides from leadership training, diversity, bettering yourself in education and instilling self discipline. My story is that the Army has produce such great leaders throughout its 244yrs and I have had the golden opportunity to be influenced by some of these leaders throughout my military career. As a young man and Noncommissioned Officer coming up in the ranks I have had leaders to teach me how to act and take care of Soldiers and some to teach me how not to act. Nevertheless I have learned that as a Noncommissioned Officer our Soldiers are a vital part of us fulfilling our mission and because of what I’ve been shown I can thoroughly show my Soldiers and show the community which we serve that our Army is about the mission first and believing, taking care and trusting our Soldiers and subordinates around us.
I met Coach Moore in the summer of 1999. My fondest memory, is conversation between the two of us with stating that he wanted to run on his 4x4 team. I was pretty adament about not running that event. That brief but heated discussion went on for about 5 minutes.
He gave me the example (with an open hand) stating "open mind", and with a clinched fist "closed mind". "With an open mind you can catch things and learn things,. You can't catch anything with this (the fist).
It was only three months spent together, but it shaped my life profoundly. By the end of that summer i knew i wanted to coach. From 2005-16 i did, with the foundation of my coaching style and coach to athlete interaction mimicking that of Coach Moore.
Mr.Moore was a great inspiration to the students at Rocky Mount Prep School. Mr.Moore showed great leadership and professionalism to the students and parents in the Rocky Mount community. Mr. Moore reached the students at the level they were on, Moore related to the students from their demographic make up.
I am writing this in support of Maurice Moore, a candidate for the Life Changer of the Year Award.
I coached with Mr. Moore for two years in the Wake Forest Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball program. What I immediately recognized in Mr. Moore was a desire to take the young men he coached to the next level. In his eyes, the next level is not all about athleticsm because in recreational basketball the vast majority of the players were out there to have fun. He wanted his players to have fun, but he also wanted them to be disciplined in their approach to the game, loyal to their teammates, and put forth their very best effort on and off the court.
As a “new” volunteer coach I learned a lot just watching his interaction with his team. At the end of each game, the team spent a few minutes complimenting each teammate on something they did exceptionally well that game. I have to say I “stole” this from him. This approach elevated all of the players on the team no matter their skill level. And it humbled the standout players when they had to think about their success and how their less skilled teammates also played a starring role.
Mr. Moore is also a wonderful coaches’ coach. Many times he helped other coaches learn the game. He was very generous with his time often coming to other teams’ practices to teach clinics on defense which he was particularly knowledgeable.
There is no onevmore deserving of this award.
I've known Coach Moore for 19 years. He has always been a man of integrity and positivity. Growing up he taught me self discipline, hard work, and dedication.
I have nothing, but the utmost respect for him and truly admire his love and respect for others.
He never hesitates to go above and beyond and is one of the most selfless people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.
He was there for me at times when I needed him most and I am undoubtedly grateful for that. He is the true definition of a leader, but more importantly an overall exceptional human being.
I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Moore roughly 25 years ago as he was a youth leader at my church. I have very fond memories of him and remember the postive impact that he made in so many young lives! He actually helped me get my first job at a local video store when I was in high school. It is clear that he has always had a calling for mentoring & investing in the well being of children & young adults and has spent the majority of his life doing so. This national recognition would be well deserved.
Mr. Moore was a gift to the Rocky Mount Prep Community & all the at risk young people there. I have seen him spend his own money on kids that wanted food at various events and the kids didn’t have any money. Mr. Moore was completely devoted to moving RM Prep to be a better school and the community to be a better community. He was the first person at the school when I dropped my children off and the last person to leave the building. He is hardworking and truly wants what’s best for EVERY student that he comes in contact with. Even adults, he pushes everyone to be a better version of themselves. Congratulations Mr. Moore! Mr. Moore, and I were colleagues in Wake County public schools. He worked with the Helping Hands program. And, as far back as I can remember, he exhibited a natural leadership style that exuded compassion and confidence in the work that needed to take place with students. It is no surprise to me that Mr. Moore has risen to this level on his educational leadership journey to better the lives of so many. He is a winner in the game of achievement! Mr. Moore and I met when working in Wake County. It was here that I got a glimpse at the bridge central office staff provides in supporting schools and student achievement. Mr. Moore was my supervisor in a tutoring program provided by the district. He was a great leader and communicator. He hired staff that shared in his vision and executed his passion of seeing students succeed academically. I also was able to witness Mr. Moore in his first AP job at a high school in this district. Even in this entity, he remained faithful to students and made decisions with them at the forefront. There is no other man that is deserving of this honor and recognition. Congrats!

On Tuesday Jan 30, 2018 I Had a chance to attend a basketball game between Rocky Mt Prep vs Weldon HS . With 3: mins left in the game. Some small pushing and shoving happened with the players on both teams. We all know the story all to well. Things escalated quickly. This is the part of the story which caught my attention .
After everything had settled down after the pepper spray had been sprayed throughout the gym. Who did I see walking around the gym, in and out of the hallways, making sure EVERY scholar EVERY parent was safe in the cars, the ones who needed medical attention received it...it was Mr. Moore! Mr. Moore was the last person in the gym, he not only made sure his Rocky Mt Prep Scholars where safe, but both teams. This man went up beyond the call of duty. I applaud you Mr Moore THANK YOU!
The next day I would like to bring to your attention was Tuesday Feb 14
Yes this the rematch game between Prep and Weldon , the tension was high the newspapers and social media is all a buzz. When I got to the game there are police and sheriff all over the place. Yes I saw school officials ( AD, Head Master, teachers, State Sports Representatives) there at the game , BUT , here is this Man (Mr. Moore) in the Middle of everything again. Making sure everything went well for his Scholars and his Rocky Mount Preparatory School.
WHY?? You ask Why do I bring up these date and times.....This my personal believe and feelings....You know as a person that grew up in the tough streets of NYC , you come to believe in “who is down for the cause or those that are here just because”! And I know Mr. Moore was down for the the cause at Rocky Mount Prep!
Mr. Moore was a great advocate for Rocky Mount Prep School. You can always tell when someone’s job is more than a job; it's Mr. Moore’s passion. Anyone can do their job when you’re in the classroom and hallways, but Mr. Moore takes his passion beyond the classroom.
Few other High lights of Mr Moore Accomplishments:
Mr. Moore advocated for the basketball team to play in the playoffs last year after being eliminated and how they went on to the Eastern Regional Finals. Also, he was an administrative liaison for the Booster Club and they were successful in raising funds last year. And he advocated for the basketball team to go to summer camps together.
Mr Moore got the spirit buses to support athletic events(he bused students to the conference tournament championship and the Eastern Regional Finals games.
Not only does Mr Moore support the Scholar Athletic endeavors , he is like a father figure to many of his Scholars. He was very concern about about their grades and their Academic success. Many of the scholars love the fact Mr. Moore is very approachable. Mr. Moore is a men of his words, when he says he is going to look into an issue, he takes care of business. Mr. Moore has personally called my home after 9:00 pm just to follow up and make sure his scholars needs are taken care of.
Administrators, fathers, teachers , Men and Friends like Mr. Moore don't come around everyday!
I have been a personal friend of Maurice's for a number of years now and I can tell you that he is man of integrity and he has an extreme passion for our youth. He is focused on helping them to achieve in the classroom and in life. And he's been a great friend and inspired me to be better as well. You couldn't have nominated a better person for this award.
I met Mr. Maurice Moore when he was the Senior Administrator over the Helping Hands Program. During that time I got an opportunity to get to know Mr. Moore very well. One of the things that stuck out to me the most about Mr. Moore is that he really cared. So many people wear titles but don’t really care. Mr. Moore cared. It was very evident. He was very well liked by the parents as well as the students. I am a single Mom of three boys. There were times when I had to called upon Mr. Moore for assistance. He always made time for me. I knew he had a busy schedule but he always made time for me. He never made me feel like I was bothering him. If he didn’t know the answer to my question he would always point me to right resource. As a Single Mom of three boys whose father was not in the home it was a blessing to have men like Mr. Moore step in to fill the gap. It is my prayer that Mr. Moore gets this nomination because he deserves it. He has been a blessing to Me, My Family and his Community. It is said that the children are our future. If we had more Mr. Moore’s in the School System and in our Communities our future would be much brighter.
I grew up in poverty, and surrounded by people with no long term goals. But over 15 years ago, Mr. Moore made sure that failure was not a part of my future. In high school, I was a star athlete and running was my ticket into college. I had college offers, and scholarship opportunities that were all missed because of my academics. When I had given up, Mr. Moore was there to encourage me, and advocate for my future. He drove me to North Carolina Central University where we went to the admissions department to discuss my enrollment. When the admissions employees told him that it was their lunch break, Mr. Moore offered to take them out to lunch! While at lunch he talked about my potential, and athleticism. Mr. Moore refused to take no for an answer! On that very same day I was accepted into NCCU, and that is where I met my beautiful wife and began the foundation of my family. Thank you Mr. Moore.

Mr. Moore wasn’t just a principal he was also a guide, a mentor, someone you could run to. He was there the majority of my high school years and without him, I wouldn’t have made it. He was always so concerned with our well being, not just school. I personally feel like he’s the best principal you could ever have .
Destiny had Mr. Moore and I crossing paths 14 years ago when he was working the Wake County Public School System. At that time he recruited me as a mentor for the Helping Hands Mentor Program and the rest is history. I was able to watch Mr. Moore lead that program for 3 years, in which various lives of both mentors and mentees where changed in a positive matter. Me. Moore kept the program moving forward with enrichment activities, powerful motivational speakers and consistent positive opportunities to help Black Male youth to move upward. I grew so much from my time in this program and have countless memories from being a part of it. This would not be possible if Mr. Moore was not such an effective leader that made sure to stand in and stand up for students and staff in the mentor program.
Mr. Moore demonstrates a powerful influence within the educational community. He is an enormous support to students, parents and educators.
It is with much enthusiasm that I recommend Maurice Moore to be selected as Lifechanger of the Year. His strengths are definitely complemented by his demonstrated leadership style and skills. I had the distinct opportunity to closely work with him as a Mentor for the Helping Hands Mentor Program in the Wake County Public School System for about five years. He was the Director at that time for the WCPSS HELPING HANDS MENTOR PROGRAM that was established by former Dr. Thomas Bridges the first African Amaerican Superintendent of WCPSS. Mr. Moore was a genuine asset to WCPSS as well as for me, personally. I was re- inspired by his extremely helpful guidance in addressing WCPSS needs in regard to our African-American males. Mr. Moore, had both tact and just remarkable insight, in refocusing on addressing the issues in regard to our African- American males. I throughly enjoyed working with him. Mr. Moore was quite popular among his fellow colleagues and students and is very intelligent, hradworking humble and with excellent leadership qualities. He has always shown his interest in the academic plight of our African- Amercan males. I honestly feel that Mr. Moore is the right candidate and should ne the recipient for this Award.
People come into our lives some to stay and give others to steal and leave, then their are some disguised as angels. Glad I opened my eyes and ears to this angel of a man. I had the privilege of working with Maurice Moore in the Wake County Public School System when he was the Administrator of the Helping Hands Mentoring program. His dedication to the program and more importantly to the students he was mentoring was extraordinary. Under his guidance the Helping Hands program grew and thrived, as did the students whose lives he touched. He has been instrumental in changing the lives of so many students in both Wake and Vance counties. I can't think of anyone more deserving of the title of Life Changer!

Mr./Coach Moore is the definition of Life Changer. If it wasn't for him i wouldn't be the Student athlete i was and the man i am today. I appreciate him being in my life.
Maurice Moore is not only a great coach but a great human being. He taught me how to attack life and bounce back after defeat. Embracing whatever obstacles come my way. The lessons grow deep and remain true through out my own career. I am able to take those lessons from him and grow as musician but also a man.
If I had to describe Mr Moore, I would say that he is innovative,compassionate,respected, and a visionary. He was the driving force behind initiating the National Honor Society at Rocky Mount Prep. He was always focused on the scholars and how he could make a difference in their lives. Whenever I needed paperwork to be signed for my scholar, who at the time,was applying to West Point,or anything that required immediate attention, he would promptly attend to the matter. He was not one to procrastinate. He was very personable and always made himself available to scholars. Mr Moore served as a father figure to many students. He had a way of making kids believe in themselves and want to do the right thing.
Mr Moore has a a student advocate and is setting a powerful example fo principals everywhere. He challenges, encourages ,and supports us all to be truly excellent at what we do. I can not think of anyone who is more deserving of this award.

Mr. Moore earned the admiration and respect of his high school students at Rocky Mount Prep. He was their inspiration as their made academic improvements. I had a chance to work with Maurice in the capacity of a coach and a technology manager with the public school system of Wake county. We also worked together with a program that was established by Wake county schools as a mentor and a fellow mentor in the program. He was always there and he continued to grow as a person in his position. He was also in charge of the mentor program at Wake county public schools. In the leadership role Maurice took the program to The next level for the mentees. Coach Moore is instrumental in making sure that they had everything they needed. Maurice is a hard worker and an asset to the education, technology and coaching field.
Mr. Moore has been pouring into the lives of the youth of NC for many years. In the late 90s, Mr. Moore took much of his personal time to mentor a group of young men at a small church in Marion, NC. The impression he left us is undeniably positive. To this day, his efforts to lead young folks to success is truly commendable.
I’ve been under Mr. Moore’s educational guidance and supervision for most of my high school career. Mr. Moore has an amazing spirit towards young people. He encouraged students to get better grades and report any good or questionable happenings. I personally grew as a student and as a person with the assistance of Mr. Moore.
Mr. Moore was a role model to many students during the time he was my sons principal. He encouraged them to attend college and during his time he produced the largest senior class in the history of the school with every senior being accepted to at least two colleges. He focused on academics but also was a big supporter of student/athletes as well. He attended all sporting events whether home or away and the students really appreciated that. The staff at the time seemed to really enjoy their job and I actually owe my sons success in his second year of college all to him.

When I think of Mr. Moore and words to describe him, the word beacon comes to mind. He shines a positive light within and is truly an inspiration to many. Under his leadership, leaders are developed by opportunities to grow and develop. His love for his community is demonstrated through his work. I first met Mr. Moore when I was teaching in Wake County. I was hired as a tutor for Helping Hands Male Mentoring Program. I saw first hand how Mr. Moore was devoted to helping the young men grow and develop. The interaction he had with them showed how much they respected and honored him. Having a positive role model like him in their lives made all the difference. I also worked with Mr. Moore when he coordinated a program at a local high school to aid in closing the achievement gap between African American students and their cohorts. Students attended different sessions ranging from test taking strategies to planning for college. He has been instrumental in developing many academic programs to help our youth succeed. I am proud to say I know Mr. Moore and the work that he does for mankind is extraordinary and life-changing!
Mr. Moore is the best principal there is! He is very motivating and is all for his students succeeding and living successful lives. Mr. Moore attends all events and makes sure we’re having fun with learning. Mr. Moore was never fond of suspensions but, he gave punishments for misbehaving in school, such as sweeping, separating papers, etc.
The years that Mr. Moore was principle were the best years of my high school career. One thing that left an impact on me, and I will remember forever was how he came in the lab every single day and told each and every scholar good morning. I haven’t seen or heard of that since then. I could talk to him about not only issues in school but issues elsewhere. He really cared about us like he cares about his own son. Sometimes staff are only concerned about academics but he took it a step further and made sure everyone who stepped into his office left with their problems solved. As long as it was within his reach. I’m glad I met him and had a chance to be there at the same time he was because he changed my life.

I had a different principal every year of high school at RMPrep and Mr. Moore was the only 1/4 who made a real impact on the students, including myself. He made more of an effort to get to know us and help us than any other faculty member I had ever met in my 13 years at prep. He deserves this award more than anyone.

I’ve known Mr.Moore for five years now. During my sophomore year of high school, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr.Moore for the first time. Rocky Mount Prep hired him to serve as the Principal for high school.
The very first day I met him, I was certain that he was destined to make great changes. Students always respected him. It’s a challenge to gain respect from students, faculty, and staff but for Mr.Moore it came natural. He served as a wonderful mentor and principal. As he is a man of his word, Mr.Moore always make sure that he follows through with any promise he makes. Maurice and I go way back to our High school days. I know for a fact that he has used the life changing experience we had as young men as a teaching tool for the youth of today. Mr. Moore moved to our rural community in the '90s and did some of the best work with youth I've ever witnessed - both in our church and in the region. He was a phenomenal youth leader because even then, he was a phenomenal human being. Mr. Moore goes to the top of any list he's on, in my opinion: he's just that kind of person. I write this many years later as the current pastor of the church he served and an educator in the McDowell County School system. I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Moore in the Wake County Mentor Helping Hands Program as an Event Assistant. Mr. Moore was the Senior Administrator for the program. The program was design to provide academic and personal development services to African American male students and also to enhance their ability to improve self esteem and develop leadership qualities. I personally had the opportunity to see the positive behavior and academic growth in the students that was in the mentor program enrolled at the school where I worked. Mr. Moore demonstrates outstanding leadership and performance in all aspects of his position. He motivates others with his positive attitude. His most enduring quality is the genuine care and concern he demonstrates for students. Mr. Moore worked as the Coordinator for the School /Community Helping Hands Program. I have been a scholar at prep since kindergarten which is way longer than most of the staff has been there so let me start off by saying I think I know a change when I see one & I instantly noticed one when Mr. Moore became the principal. He was the best principal i’ve ever had out of all my years of being at prep, matter of fact the best principal that prep ever had! He always put EACH and EVERY student first which is the way it’s supposed to be. He treats all of us like we’re his own. I was so heartbroken when he left, I honestly wanted to leave with him. When he left prep was beginning to go downhill, academic & behavior wise. On the note, I just want to conclude that Mr. Moore meets every expectation as to being a principal so why isn’t he not the president of Rocky Mount Prep.

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Moore when he served as ELA/Reading teacher at Vance County Middle School. Even though he joined the staff in the middle of the year, he brought a high level of professionalism and commitment to his students. I observed him as he greeted every student at his classroom door. He is very organized and always have work ready for his students when they enter his classroom. I have had the pleasure of knowing Mr Moore for more than 25 plus years. He has always demonstrated the leadership role ever since I first met him in college. His has always taken the lead role any opportunity given the chance. I knew he had the heart from children when he mentioned to me he was going into the education field. I knew he would be a life changer in the lives of students because of his demonstrated leadership skills. Coach Moore has been more than a coach to me. Growing up without my biological father being active in my life through my younger years made it hard for me to recognize what traits a good father figure should display until I met Coach Moore. He has been my coach, one of a few that I recognize each Father’s Day, my mentor, and one of my biggest supporters. He believed in me from the start and stood outside of the gym during my basketball practices until I saw what he saw in me. He convinced me to hit the track field and guided me patiently through the years following! I went on to make the honor rolls and graduate high school as well as earn a full scholarship at UNCC Charlotte and with his help and guidance learned life skills and values that carried me through til this day. He gained the respect and trust of my Grandmother which was hard for many to do and every since, though not blood related, has created a bond that will be forever appreciated. I have the privilege of working with Mr. Moore currently at Vance County High School. Mr Moore is an extraordinary leader who seeks to build positive relationships with both staff and students. As an international teacher I can speak of the motivation I have gotten from him- there are many days he walks to my classroom just to ensure that my students and I doing ok. Nearly 20 years ago a young educator and track coach forever changed my life. I was an unfocused teen who believed sports and socializing were all that high school was made for. I was headed down the wrong path and fast. Coach Moore saw something in me that I did not see in myself. He took me under he wing and helped me graduate and get to college. While in college I excelled. I was elected Student Body President and graduated with over a 3.0 GPA. If it weren’t for Coach Moore I would have never went to college and possibly even graduated. Today, I am a Vice President at M&T Bank and give back to my community through my service as Secretary of the Theta Rho Lambda Education Foundation. I am forever grateful for Coach Moore’s guidance and support nearly 20 years ago. His legacy in education includes many more like mine!
Mr. Moore is an educator extraordinaire and a model colleague. He played an integral role in guiding and molding the lives of the 2018-2019 seventh grade students at Vance County Middle School. Although he joined the school family mid-year, he quickly engendered such a strong bond with his students which resulted in him being able to guide them to an appreciation of education and more so, valuing academic excellence. Mr. Moore’s impact on these students is evident in the growth shown for that group not only in formative assessments such as the NC Check-Ins; but also, the End of Grade Assessment. He has definitely changed the lives of scholars.
Conversely, Mr. Moore is a leader and the epitome of a team player. His mid-year arrival to the school was no deterrent, for he immediately inquired how he could be of assistance as a new member of the 7th grade ELA team. He shared research-based strategies and techniques that the team could use for vocabulary development and other content areas.
Mr. Moore always maintained a calm disposition. Even during the most stressful times, Mr. Moore was always pleasant, polite and conveyed words of encouragement to fellow colleagues and as such contributed to staff moral. As an international teacher, I was well pleased with Mr. Moore’s multicultural mindset. He was eager to learn more about every aspect of my culture and often asked about the differences in the education system there and the ways in which I incorporate my culture into my lessons.
Mr. Maurice Moore has left an indelible mark on both the students and staff with which he encountered at VCMS. It was an absolute honor to have worked with him.
Mr. Moore exemplifies all of the qualities that are needed as a leader in his home, the community and in his profession. I have had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Moore for the past 15 years in a personal and professional manner. He leads by example, is dependable, knowledgeable, fair and is passionate about children, employees and families. Maurice Moore is truly dedicated to his students, staff and parents of his students. As a first hand witness, I know that he goes above and beyond for students and staff members alike. He ensures that students feel supported by teachers in his school environment and he ensures that teachers are equipped to teach students and deal with their students in a way that is conducive to a successful learning experience. He is the type of individual that will give his last dollar if he feels it will help a student. He is an excellent communicator, an active listener, and an effective leader!
My 2 boys has never been a student of Maurice just close friends with his son. Outside the school system he always working making sure he has their best interested at heart when it comes to there education. During the summer he put a small reading group together for boys and I thought that was awesome. He’s a great mentor and genuinely cares a lot about your kids and making sure they strive to succeed in life.
I am fortunate to have met Mr. Moore in my last year as a Science Teacher in Vance County High School. He was the Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction and I was a long-term substitute teacher teaching Science classes.
Despite my status, Mr. Moore dropped by my class to observe a couple of times. He could have skipped me, but no, he took time and observed what I was doing inside the classroom. I would like to think that knowing how my classes were conducted allowed him to properly gauge how my students were doing in my class and whether my observations and comments regarding my students during parent conferences were fair and helpful.
I could not forget one incident when an irate parent was blaming me for her son’s failing grade because she thought that I informed her too late. The liaison officer sided with the parent and they started ganging up on me. I was put in the defensive but they would not hear my explanation. Fortunately, Mr. Moore was in the meeting (even if his presence wasn’t required) and successfully, in a very calm and professional manner, steered the heated conversation from a blame-game to what can be done to help the student. He successfully made the student commit to do his work and for the parent to check on the works given at home. The student eventually passed.
He empowered me as a teacher. With him, I didn’t feel that I needed to defend the actions I made. I felt trusted and that gave me confidence that I was doing right. One time, I asked that a couple of disruptive students be removed from my class since they were keeping the others from learning. Mr. Moore came and told the students “get your bags and come with me silently. No explanations.” The students complied without a word. That was very effective and I was able to conduct classes smoothly for a couple of weeks without any major disruption from the same students. He showed the students that I was to be respected and that he got my back. As a teacher, that means a lot.
I met Maurice Moore while working with A community mentoring project called Community Helping Hands for wake County Public school system. Maurice was very passionate about the students that he worked with, and I learned a lot from him. At that time I was a teacher assistant for special programs in wake county. He heard about a program to help teachers assistants transition to classroom teachers. Maurice made sure my name was given to the program and the rest is history. Thanks Maurice Moore you deserve this.
Mr. Moore was an excellent Track and Field Coach years ago, and always encouraged athletes to be “Student Athletes”. His encouragement had a great impact in my life to further my education. Mr. Moore’s transition from coaching to become a Principal has given him a platform to advocate in many ways for students. Mr Moore is currently one of the assistant principals at Vance County High School and he is an exemplary leader. He is always available to both staff and students, which allows for easy communication and support. I can remember it like yesterday when Mr. Moore walked into that building at the Vance County fortunately for me his office wall on my hall. The changes were evident immediately because he addressed issues timely and effectively. His militants and effective communication paved the way for improvement in students behavior and in and out of classroom. He didn’t stop there as the time progressed his ideas would manifest itself with some brilliant ideas. These include head of departments, encouraging regular meetings, holding persons accountable. He also facilitated a brilliant idea with the Maths and ElA instruction which results in shorter sessions and a focus on the core. Mr. Moore is timely and respectful in communication which makes it easy to perform any tasks he ask. I am sure the school will grow with his leadership. I met Mr. Moore over two decades ago at my home church in North Carolina. His job in sales, if I remember correctly brought him to the area. He was very involved with the youth program and didn't waste time getting acquainted with everyone. From singing in the choir to teaching life lessons he was all the youth needed.The impact that he had on my life and every other child that lived in my neighborhood, was Gods gift. He was the person that I looked up to and footsteps I wanted to follow.He was the father figure and role model that I wanted to be to my children. The activist that I wanted to be in my community. The guide to those who needed guidance. Mr Moore has been a Life Changer since the day I met him and years before. The day I hear his testimony is the day that the world should because I know it will influence others as well. I first me Maurice at Wake Forest Middle School. He was my daughter’s technology teacher,and I had worked with his wife in Vance County back in the early 2000. Maurice and I have been friends for years. He is very ambitious and he loves changing live in young people. The nomination could not have gone to a better person. Mr. Moore came to Vance County High School at a pivotal time. The county had just combined two high school and the transition was not seamless. As an international teacher, starting my fourth year, I dreaded this move. Relocating to this new building, new administration and new students felt like my first time teaching in America all over again. There were multiple challenges that I faced in my classroom everyday. When Mr. Moore joined the staff, his presence was a welcome relief.
The students in the building always try to see how much they could get away with. They are disrespectful to teachers, they fight and they skip classes. It always blows my mind how Mr. Moore handles these situations with the students. He has a gentle demeanor, that commands their respect. He calms them and gets them to see things rationally.
I had the privilege of being under Mr. Moore’s leadership and mentorship over the past five years. His focus on the community, relationship-building, school culture, and the overall success of our students helped me become the educator and community advocate I am today. Mr. Moore has always gone above and beyond the role of principle. Even after leaving RMT Prep, he would send me and my son text messages to remind us of where to go and how to prepare for college fairs, college testing and potential scholarships. He had moved on to another chapter, but continued to reach back, never forgetting the ones that really needed his love and support. No matter where Mr. Moore plants his feet, it will be a blessing to each and every child he encounters. His love, support and compassion has uplifted many young men and women and motivated them to press forward. He has not only been a life changer for 12 months, but has dedicated his career to changing lives!

Mr. Moore was the High School Principal at RM Prep when my oldest son was a freshman there and when my middle child was a junior. I have always thought highly of him and admired his leadership during his tenure at RM Prep. Mr. Moore continues to mentor former students from RM Prep, providing assistance to them in any way possible. I have heard several students describe him as the father they never had. Mr. Moore’s approach to changing the culture at RM Prep made the years that my sons attended memorable and impressionable to them and to me as a parent. The students respected him because he respected each of them! I will always remember the way he advocated for the basketball team! And his advocacy to secure spirit buses for students to attend who, otherwise, would not have been in attendance at the schools conference championship and state semifinal games!!
