Mr. Riley has been a teacher at Blanchard High School for over 35 years, where he has taught geometry, algebra, trigonometry and pre-calculus. He has worked with thousands of high school-aged students, preparing them for career fields in mathematics, engineering, meteorology, and many STEM programs. His school has an excellent mathematics program, but Mr. Riley's ability to teach the most challenging content is extraordinary. He is a difference maker. He is a dedicated educator who consistently works before school and after school, and he makes time to work one on one with many students who require extra help. Students who have graduated continually return for his help in college-level math courses, and they are aware that he will help them at anytime during their college careers. It is common to see past graduates visiting his room.
One of his students, Parker Randels, recently co-founded Babel Analytics. He and his partner have created a tool for mobile devices that will diagnose and identify whether laser damage has occured to a soldier's eyes in a combat zone. They have recently partnered and contracted with the US Department of Defense. Parker is serving as a consultant, handling the financial and legal aspects of the startup. This handheld clinical support tool for the battlefield environment is the first of its kind. Mr. Riley has inspired and prepared many college bound students who are successful in math-driven career fields today.
As the Academic Team coach for more than 30 years, Mr. Riley has had teams that won the state title, and they compete exceptionally well year after year. Practices are held 2-3 times per week after school, and he has established himself as an outstanding coach with a notable reputation in the state. The team members prepare while Mr. Riley allows for a fun and memorable experience.
Serving as a negotiations team member for the Blanchard Schools for two decades has given him the opportunity to assist in setting policy, setting pay, and positively impacting overall school environment. He has been a defender of public education and has had a huge impact on his district with regards to a positive environment and safe working conditions.
