Music that Describes Dianna

Dianna Mann was nominated by an anonymous colleague.

Ms. Mann has been the volunteer services coordinator for Yukon Public Schools for three years.  Before taking this position, she was a volunteer and mentor for YPS for five years. As the volunteer services coordinator, she oversees all aspects of the Helping Hands volunteer program, the Miller Mentor program, and the Santa’s Friends program.  She is an exceptional supervisor and leader who is always asking how she can help and looking for new ways to improve services.

In her three years with the district, she has elevated the mentor program, adding over 60 new mentors to meet with students on a weekly basis to be an encouraging and consistent figure in their lives.  She is very mindful of who she places with each child, making sure that the pairing is a good fit for both the mentee and the mentor.

Ms. Mann checks in with counselors frequently to see how these students are doing and if there are other ways that she can help them. She is passionate about the mentor program and helping to empower and motivate these students to succeed. The site counselors often talk about how a mentor has positively impacted a student’s life, noting changes in behavior or even improvements in academics.

In regards to the Santa’s Friends program, Ms. Mann has been instrumental in finding new ways and new community resources to help students and families who are struggling.  She has made it a priority to make sure principals, counselors, and teachers know what services are available to students who may need assistance. Because of these efforts, students have been able to receive eye exams and/or glasses, as well as dental exams or much-needed dental work.

During the 2019-20 school year, Ms. Mann has helped over 25 families with getting warm coats for winter, new shoes, food, and other basic necessities. She is passionate about advocating for student needs and has made it her mission to make sure each student has what they need to succeed in the classroom and in life.

Ms. Mann makes sure YPS and its community partners work together for the betterment of students.  As such, she has volunteered many hours outside of work on behalf of her department and district. She volunteers annually at the Canadian County Santa’s Toy Shoppe event, knowing that many of the district's families rely on this program to help them through the holiday season.  She also volunteers and assists with the Canadian Hills Nazarene Church’s Shoes for Kids program, making sure every student has a new pair of shoes for school. Ms. Mann works closely with local non-profits, such as Yukon Sharing and the Yukon Rotary Club, to support local initiatives which will help students.  She has also worked tirelessly to help pair outside church groups and anonymous donors with families in the district to provide them with Christmas needs and wants they otherwise wouldn't have.

"Dianna's leadership and professionalism, paired with her compassionate and empathetic heart for our students and their families, make her a LifeChanger," said the nominator. "She pours her heart into helping students and/or their families. She has shed tears over many situations she felt she wasn't able to do enough for, and we know of many instances where she was meeting and helping families outside of her work hours to ensure they had what they needed as quickly as possible.  Dianna is passionate about her work and goes the extra mile whenever necessary. She truly exemplifies the Yukon spirit of excellence in education, and we are proud to call her one of Yukon’s best!"

Every child gets the best from Dianna. She sees them and their individual situations through such caring eyes. I am privileged to work with her through the YPS mentoring program, and the student I see lights up when he hears her name! He says, "My family loves her!"

Dianna is fantastic for Yukon! I have been a part of her mentor program for the last few years and I have been so impressed by both the breadth and the depth of her service to the schools and community. Dianna is involved in and leading the way in so many areas. I have also seen her work hard to learn more how she can serve students and their families with various needs. What impresses me most though is that with all the plates she has spinning and all the programs she keeps staffed and running she also cares deeply on an individual basis. I have seen this with how she has checked on the student I mentor and asked specific questions that only someone who cares about him would think to ask. Dianna's holistic care for students and families in Yukon is truly admirable and she is very deserving of the title of life changer!

It's not every day that you meet a person that changes a child's life. Dianna is one of those people. She is one of the kindest and gracious people I have ever met! She truly has an open, giving heart and wants every child to have the absolute best chance in life even if it hasn't started out that way. She inspires me as she works so hard to make sure the child has positive influences in their lives through the mentor program as well as providing immediate needs like food, clothing, and glasses through the Santa's Friends fund. I believe she is the epitome of a LifeChanger!

Dianna has been the coordinator of the Helping Hands program for the three years that I have served as a volunteer, and she has made me feel welcome & needed since the first time I met her. Whether I stop by the HH office or run into her at an event, Dianna calls me by name & thanks me for my help. She usually has a camera with her, snapping pictures of the volunteers in action. I offered to take a picture of her for a change, but she made sure the focus was on the interaction with the students. Dianna is friendly, professional, and sincere in her enthusiasm for the Helping Hands program.

Dianna is a wonderful, caring person! I wanted to be in the mentor program years ago and she walked me through my first year and made sure my mentee and I were a great match! She has been a great support through the years. Like others have said, it's not just a job for her, it's her heart! I could not think of a better person to be nominated and win this award!

Dianna is absolutely deserving. It is such a privilege to serve our school community, and she brings great energy and focus to how to do so. As a mentor and volunteer, she is a great encouragement. She goes out of the way to make sure the student/mentor relationship is nurtured and empowered. As the Yukon Ministerial Alliance President, I am thankful for the invites she extends to enter her dreams of how to meet very tangible needs that exist on large and small scales throughout the district. My great prayer is that she does not burn out because of how much she gives. May we support her well so her fire may burn for many years to come.
