Daphne Adams was nominated by her colleague, Karen Herrington.

Mrs. Adams is one of the most caring, compassionate teachers a student could ever work with! Her school, Kennedy Elementary, is located in the poorest boundaries in Wellington, KS. Mrs. Adams ensures all of her students are emotionally and financially taken care of while at school. For example, she knows not all of her students will be able to bring the money necessary to help pay for their field trip, but she always makes sure every student is able to go.  She emotionally supports them when things aren't going well at home, and she makes learning fun for her students.

"I've seen her get her students motivated in the mornings by having dance parties to get their blood flowing," said Herrington. "When one of her student's parents couldn't afford ADHD medication, Daphne stuck by the student for over two weeks, dealing with the student's behavior with the utmost patience. She teaches her students all the important life lessons.  At Christmas, she does a candy cane fundraiser and uses the money she collects to take her students to Walmart to shop for a family that is less fortunate than others, teaching them a very valuable lesson about caring and giving.  She is very passionate about teaching and has a heart of gold when it comes to her students."

Mrs. Adams is one of the best!! She is more than deserving of this nomination as she is a life changer! I have had the honor of working with Mrs. Adams throughout my teaching career. She always does what is best for her students and their families. She is kind, caring, hardworking, and wants only the best for her students and her school! I have known her for many years as she was also my tennis coach when I was in high school. She loves the kids she coaches just as much as the students she teaches. Hearing her name puts a smile on my face! She is a "go to" person for anyone in our building. I have truly learned many things from this incredible woman!

Mrs. Adams is very deserving of this nomination. She has a huge heart for her students, and really for all students at Kennedy Elementary School. Mrs. Adams serves on our building General Education Intervention (GEI) Team, helping to ensure that all students needs are met, both academically and behaviorally. Mrs. Adams does an exceptional job tracking data on her students, and making daily changes in her instruction to ensure students are progressing through curriculum. She is always willing to help colleagues improve in any area she can. Mrs. Adams is a true team member and a positive role model for all to follow.

Without a doubt, Daphne is a life changer. This year, I've had the privilege to closely work alongside her and, as a third year teacher, she inspires me anytime I watch her interact with not only kids, but anybody and everybody. Daphne has the kind of heart everybody needs, and I'm blessed to have that kind of educator and role model in my life and school. Not to mention, she does an INCREDIBLE job of making learning fun and engaging for all students. I would have loved to have her as my teacher!

Mrs. Adams is a champion for her students. She has a unique way of learning what each student needs and how to address those needs to help them be successful students in second grade. She also works with K-3 students in the KRR program after school and in the summer. This program gives students an opportunity to fill in the gaps with Reading and Math. One night a week she participates in the Life program that works with families. In the fall she is the high school assistant girls tennis coach. Mrs. Adams has been a colleague for twenty plus years. I have personally seen the result of her efforts in teaching her students. She is a rock star and we are blessed to have her at Kennedy School.
