Sky Kong was nominated by her colleague, Angela Bonner.
Traumatic events come in many different ways at many different times of one’s life. Can you imagine being a young child and being afraid of the person who is supposed to protect you? That's one of the obstacles that Ms. Kong had to overcome. Individuals often channel these experiences in several ways. Ms. Kong chose to channel these experiences into positive actions to help students. Although her degree is in business technology, she has chosen to work with students with special needs.
Ms. Kong's ability to create a positive school atmosphere is evidenced by her upbeat personality and willingness to help anyone in need. She is a strong advocate for student rights, but she also works diligently to ensure parents understand what can often be difficult terms when dealing with special education. She works countless hours to make a difference and include everyone. Ms. Kong works to ensure she is knowledgeable on numerous topics.
Ms. Kong has a great record of excellent performance and professionalism. She is part of the Mississippi Association Education 2019-2020 Teacher Leadership Institute cohort, where her capstone project will focus on providing teachers with more knowledge and tools to help students. It relates to the school to prison pipeline and the role everyone plays in that through understanding emotional poverty. She is also part of the Mississippi Teacher Council. Additionally, Ms. Kong was awarded the Hosemann Scholarship, which allowed her to enroll at Holmes Community College in order to earn a certification in Applied Behavior Analysis. This will allow her to directly implement behavior-analytic services under a supervising Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Behavior therapists are not readily available on school campuses in Mississippi, and this certification will give her another tool in her toolbox to impact students. At the campus level, she oversees the Christmas Angel project to ensure less fortunate students have gifts under the tree.
Ms. Kong's love for her students is infectious, and she can often be seen spending her own money to ensure that her students' academic and emotional needs are being met. She believes in treating each student as if they were her own child. She truly understands the struggles of students with disabilities from the experiences she has had with her own children.
Ms. Kong continues to strive for greatness. She wants to be an example for the college-bound students she mentors, to show them if she can do it, then they can.
"I am proud of her work with the students and her role in their educational journey," said Bonner. "I am proud to call her a colleague and a friend."
I meet my wife well before she was a teacher. Even then while attending Pearl River Community College she was helping others. Sky was helping other students in the student support program by tutoring anyone who needed a little extra help with their academics. Through the years the one thing that has always been the same is her overwhelming care for her students and her need to help them succeed in life. She is one of the most caring and driven people I have ever known. Even after all these years she astounds me everyday!!
Sky is so good at her job and working with her students! She really puts her whole heart in her job! She really went above and beyond to help my child succeed in school! I can’t think of a more deserving person for this award.

Mrs. Sky is a life-changer because she has changed my life and many others. Mrs. Sky helps kids all the time; everytime I see her she is always helping students. Mrs. Sky is very sweet and outgoing, she does whatever she can to help anyone. She has helped me through some very rough times and changed my life. She goes above and beyond for anyone, like her students and family at home. Mrs. Sky tries her best to make sure everyone is having a good day even if she isn't have one. She is a very big influence on her kids and she is also an amazing teacher. Mrs. Sky works hard to help anyone that needs it; she is a life changer.

Mrs. Sky is a life changer because of the extra attention she gives to her students. She not only helps them meet their academic goals, but also helps them to set personal goals. After setting these goals she checks in with these students to help them work toward achieving those goals. She connects with her students in a way that crafted a trusting relationship. Because of this relationship she is able to teach the whole child and help them grow emotionally, behaviorally, and academically. These are the reasons she should be selected as a “Life Changer”. She changes students lives through more than academics.
Mrs. Sky is a life changer because she always tries to make sure everyone is okay and is having a wonderful day. She is a wonderful teacher and makes people laugh. She is very good at her job and makes sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to. She helps kids who need help with work or issues. She is a very caring and bubbly teacher. When she hears people arguing and getting in drama she goes over to them and talks to them and they end of becoming friends again. I am so happy and lucky to have Mrs. Sky at my school, she is just an amazing person all around no matter how bad her day is going. She goes home and takes care of her 2 little girls and they are happy to call her "Mommy" she makes sure they are going down the right path and leads them away from anything that they are not supposed to be doing. She makes sure no one is getting bullied or harassed.
Mrs Sky is a life changer because she is aslways there to help me when I need her and when I don't. She is always on thop of the job and and she is just an amazing person all the way around. She necver gets caught up in life at school. Sh is always willing to go above and beyond for her students.She is also one of the nicest teachers I have ever had. She does everything the right way and not the wrong way. She always keeps me on task and that is helpful to me. We are so proud of you Sky you have a gift and you strive to get things accomplished that only a devoted teacher can do!! Keep moving forward!! We all love you so much!!

Sky Kong is the best teacher and the is amazing to work with. When i first came to this school I was confused and didn't know what to do then Mrs. Sky Kong helped me with everything I needed help with. She is kind, smart, and amazing. She is an huge encouragement to all of her students and to her coworkers. Mrs. Sky is always there to help you with anything you need and she is there when you need someone to talk to when your going through a tuff time. She gives good solid advice. She cares deeply about everyone, not only about her student but every student that she comes in contact with. When I think of a teacher is think Patient, kind, and helpful. Someone who isn't just there to teach and give instructions and someone who is there to listen and guide their children to what's good in life. I'm really happy to call her my teacher.

Sky Kong is an amazing teacher and an person. She will not let anything get in her way she will continue to push through all of the tough times no matter what happens in life.She will be an amazing example to other people in her lifetime.She has always helped me when I was not understanding something. She would go to dance class with the homework already done just to help me, because I did not understand it in class that day.No matter what she goes through she is always going to be an amazing person.
When I need something I always know that I can go to her and she will help me and I can trust that. She is one of the best teachers that has been there for me and i love her for that.
When I hear the word teachers I think of someone who is patient and kind. Someone who knows that every child is special in his/her own way. Someone who isn’t just there to teach and give instructions but someone who is also there to listen and guide our children. Sky is EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE THINGS! Ms. Kongs ability to advocate for children and her willingness to go above and beyond are such a gift for parents and students here. Becoming a Behavioral specialist will make such an impact here in our district, it shows her love and compassion in a clear and brilliant light.

I have worked with Sky for several years in different capacities. She truly does treat every student as if they are her own. She has a gift for helping and she uses that to make our school and the world a better place. She can get have a breakthrough with students that no one else can. She is very deserving of this award.
