Music that Describes Belinda
Dr. Belinda Anderson was nominated by her colleague, Leah Shull.
Dr. Anderson is one of the most amazing women on the planet! Before she stepped into the role of principal at Chester County Junior High, the school was struggling. Student and teacher morale was low, as well as test scores. The school was placed by the state of Tennessee on the Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) list.
Dr. Anderson accepted the principal position knowing she'd have an uphill battle. Her vision was to create a school where every student felt loved and accepted, and where every teacher felt valued and supported. Her first hurdle was to overhaul the school culture, and did she ever! Every grade level had its own T-shirts with their own mottos. "Be the leader," she told her staff. Today, her school has a simple, new motto: Grit. Growth. Gratitude. What a difference it has made!
For the beginning of the year, she choreographed a dance routine that the faculty performed for the students. This became an annual tradition, and the students and faculty alike look forward to it! It may seem silly, but the faculty dance indicated something was shifting in the school. The staff didn't have to be so serious all the time. They didn't have to focus on what was wrong with their school. They started looking for ways to bring joy to the students.
Dr. Anderson’s envisioned a school where teachers and students had meaningful relationships. She helped her school realize it wasn’t teachers vs. students. Everyone was on the same team. She is always looking for ways to highlight the good things that are going on in her school. She tweets about it, posts on Instagram, and livestreams on Facebook. When some of her sixth grade teachers hit an impressive learning target, she went out and bought tacos and had the teachers join her in the hallway! This is just one of many examples of how much she has changed the culture at CCJHS.
"Compared to when I first started, going into school is like going into an alternate universe," said Shull. "The students are happy. The teachers are happy. Most importantly, the students are learning. Just one year after we were placed on the Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) list, the designation was removed. This is nothing short than astounding. Schools typically spend multiple years trying to revamp their instruction and improve the quality of education being provided before the ATSI designation is removed. The lesson I see here is simple. There was nothing wrong with the students. There was nothing wrong with the teachers. We just needed a true leader."
Dr. Anderson’s vision went beyond improving morale. She was determined to create a school where students could get a first-class education. Her abilities as an instructional leader are impressive. One of the best instructional decisions Dr. Anderson made was piloting Summit Learning in her school. Summit Learning is an innovative approach to education that helps teachers implement a technology-supported, project-based curriculum. This student-centered approach to instruction has an ultimate goal of teaching students to internalize 16 Habits of Success that will empower them throughout their lives. Out of hundreds of possible schools, CCJHS was chosen last year as a spotlight school for the Summit Learning program. "I have rarely met someone in my life as visionary as Dr. Belinda Anderson," said Shull. "She gives her whole heart and soul to her job. She goes above and beyond to make her staff feel appreciated. Dr. Anderson goes out of her way to make the students in her school feel seen."
The best principal does great things for the school to be better
Dr. A always made you believe that you were capable of so much. I was a junior in college when I met Dr. A and right from the start she was enthusiastic, encouraging, and treated me like family. She helped build me into a leader and was there for me through some of the most difficult times in my life. She’s one of the greatest educators I’ve ever met. I am also an administrator in a Middle School now and I often think of her and how incredible it must be to work for her. I hope I can inspire half as much as she has. Thank you, Belinda for the impact you have had on my life and so many others.
Dr. Anderson is a really good principle. She gave us a warm welcome on the 1st day of school and she is really nice. When she sees me sad or mad she cheers me up. Also when my grades start going down, she supports me and helps me boost my grades. Dr. Anderson deserves this award.

Dr. Anderson was my sons 3rd grade teacher and the way she interacted with her students and parents, her positive attitude about everything, the way she encouraged her students to challenge themselves to be better, and her caring, loving and fun personality she had towards each and every person she was around made me want to be in 3rd grade all over again. My son was literally counting down the days until he was in jr high because he was so excited to have Dr. Anderson as his principal. She ALWAYS greets you with a smile and sometimes even a song. My son, as well as myself, have always walked away from a conversation with her feeling motivated, encouraged and uplifted. Dr. Anderson is very deserving of Life Changer of the Year.

Vibrant. Encouraging. Involved. Always eager to participate. All words I would use to describe Dr. Belinda Anderson. When I first came to Henderson, Tennessee to work as the Department Chair of the College of Education at Freed-Hardeman University, Dr. Anderson was one of the first educators I was introduced to, noting that Chester County Schools, and especially hers, was an integral partnership for our program. I soon learned how true that was. Anytime we asked her to participate in taking on practicum students, student teachers, or partner with us for special projects, she not only said "yes, absolutely!" but wanted to go the extra mile and always provided exciting ideas for truly making our teacher candidates feel like part of her school. She always participates in our Alumni Days and Seminars, and provides such insightful wisdom to our faculty and teacher candidates, while bridging the gap that sometimes exists between what teacher candidates learn about theory in higher education, and put into practice when they become new teachers in K-12. She has worked in both arenas, so she truly knows how to walk and work between and among both spectrums, which truly makes her an honorable candidate for the Life Changer of the Year Award. She is impacting lives from across the spectrum of lives--Kindergarten through adulthood. Mr.s Belinda has been an amazing role-model, and gave me a warm welcome on the first day of school. She cheers up me and other students by spreading cheer and making up sill chants to show or school pride. And even before I started 6th Grade, I knew Mrs. Belinda. I remember when she was a 3rd grade teacher! After a short time period, she became principal of CCJHS. Looking back on her previous job, she has made lots of improvement. She became principal whenever the Junior high needed a glow-up the most, whenever most students were failing because of the poor teaching and communication. She gave CCJHS students the confidence they needed, and strengthened their urge to keep going. She also helped the teachers too. Mrs. Belinda united our school and improved the students knowledge, she also improved our future!

Dr. A has been the most amazing principal that anyone could ever have. She always says, "Good Morning" to me and it has made my day. She has always put a smile on my face no matter what. When I was in third grade she was my teacher. She was the best one in East Chester that I had. She ended my year leaving East Chester as the best couple of years. I've known Dr. Anderson for over 15 years. I've had the privilege of working under her leadership twice, first as a college student and now as a teacher. Dr. Anderson is most definitely a life changer. In 6th grade it was my first year with Dr. Anderson and my first time being in a public school in over 5 years. i was home schooled and was not used to so many people. As It being my 8th grade year and my last year with Dr.Anderson, I have really grown to get used to hearing Dr. Anderson try to make our days better by singing and saying "GOOD MORNING" to each and everyone of us in the junior high. She always says she likes when she takes pictures of you when you least expect it and that shows that, she likes to see you smiling and having fun. Dr Anderson changes people's lives. She goes out of her way to tell every student and teacher good morning each and everyday. She makes sure that everyone is always smiling, even if they don't want to be. She is constantly spreading joy to all the students and teachers. If she sees that a student is upset, she finds a way to make them smile and it always works. When people are around her, they can't stay mad because she is always so happy and her positive attitude always rubs off on everyone and then everyone is happy throughout the day. Everyday she is working her hardest to ensure each and every student is getting the best education possible. No matter what mood anyone is in, they always leave happy and with a big smile. She inspires everyone to do their very best. When people are around her they are always laughing and having a good time. She is truly a life changer in my eyes.
Dr. Anderson has changed my life in so many ways. I am so glad that she has been able to be my principal for three years now. She influences Chester County Junior High in so many ways and makes it a positive and happy enviroment to be in. She is a wonderful principal and brightens up everyones day when she sings and always says good morning to each person everyday. She handles drama and violence in our school very well and makes sure that we dont have any at all. Dr. Anderson helps dozens of students in our school daily. Every morning she greets people in the halls, at the beginning of the school year not many people said hi back, but now people say hello and greet her with a hug before she can say hi, good morning, have a great day etc. She is nice to everyone and is constantly thinking of ways to make our school a better place, a more comfortable place and a safer place. Dr. A is the best principal anyone could ever ask for.
Dr. Anderson has influenced me by how she is always happy even when she is not feeling that good. She always wants to make others days better by giving off smile. Also, she is always at her job ready to work and see our faces. She supports everything with her eagle pride by going to sporting events and band/chores concerts and cheering those people on. Dr. Anderson/The Life Changer has been changing children's livess since she was a third grade teacher always smiling even when nothing good has happened. Since she has been a principal at this school she has made this school so much better. She has stopped most of the violence going on in the past and so much more. It´s hard to put in words how Dr. Belinda has influenced me, so I´ll start with describing her. She´s welcoming, positive and supportive, not to mention she´s pretty fun to talk to to be honest. Dr. A. has changes my life in many ways since the 3rd grade. She started off teaching me about Antarctica in my 3rd grade RTI class. We learned about animal insulation and even built a scientist research station with tools and supplies that Mrs. Belinda had bought us out of her own pocket which was awesome! Then i moved on into Middle school but when i got into the 6th grade at the Junior high she was my new Principal. She has done so much for this school to make it a better, happier, more exciting place than it has ever been. I am so very thankful for all the experiences i have had with Dr. Anderson she is truly. Dr.Anderson is a life changer in many different ways. During 3rd grade, she was my teacher and whenever I didn't need help she offered help anyways. Though I haven't known Dr.Anderson long, she has made many of my days better. She is always in the hall shouting out cheerful words and welcoming every student. She doesn't judge the students just because of how they look and sometimes she will even compliment something about you when you walk by. It's scary how positive she can be, not that that's a bad thing though. Dr Anderson will sing, too, even though many students make fun of it her confidence and optimism is contagious. Nothing seems to truly bring her down other than other students being rude to others, she always gets serious then. One thing I know Dr Anderson doesn't let slide is when students bring down their peers, and the fact that she actually cares about the school really brings in a positive atmosphere into the entire building. This is my first year at this school and I am so much happier. At my old school there was no positive vibe. Students are as mean as ever, and the teachers didn't seem to do anything about it. All my old school really focused on was grades, and there test scores showed it. Test scores aren't everything, and truly kindness and optimism is what makes a school better than the rest. I am so grateful to have her represent a leader to this school.. She really helps me believe in myself everyday that I see her standing in the hall.

She looks at all kids in this school the same and gives them the same chances. She influenced me by being a good person and helping others when needed. She is proud of her school and loves to sing on the announcements, this makes me laugh sometimes and starts my day off with a smile. I just moved to CCJHS this year, and Dr. Anderson has shown me how great it is to be an EAGLE.
Though I haven't known Dr.Anderson long, she has made many of my days better. She is always in the hall shouting out cheerful words and welcoming every student. She doesn't judge the students just because of how they look and sometimes she will even compliment something about you when you walk by. Nothing seems to truly bring her down other than other students being rude to others, she always gets serious then. One thing I know Dr Anderson doesn't let slide is when students bring down their peers, and the fact that she actually cares about the school really brings in a positive atmosphere into the entire building. This is my first year at this school and I am so much happier. At my old school there was no positive vibe. Students are as mean as ever, and the teachers didn't seem to do anything about it. All my old school really focused on was grades, and there test scores showed it. Test scores aren't everything, and truly kindness and optimism is what makes a school better than the rest. I am so grateful to have her represent a leader to this school.. She really helps me believe in myself everyday that I see her standing in the hall.

I heard the story hundreds of times around the school of how Mrs. Belinda came to CCJHS when it was a mess and she came as the worker and fixed it all up. I have known Mrs. Belinda for 4 years and I believe she is a life changing person because she made me wanna raise my grades up and I did in each subject! Every day on announcements, she gives life changing statements that I think can make a difference in anyone's life. Not only has she done that, but she was also amazing as a 3rd grade teacher! She helped me learn a lot and got me ready for 4th grade. She switched subjects so I know that she is the one that got me prepared for both reading and math! I love her so much and I know she loves us. She is loving, passionate, caring, and a great influence. There are way too many words to describe Doctor Anderson. One out of all of them, is my hero.

I have known Dr. Belinda Anderson for over 30 years and she has continuously climbed to new heights with every opportunity she has encountered. From higher education to PK-12 education, she makes a positive impact on everyone she meets and on every position she has carried in education.
As dean of the College of Education & Behavioral Sciences at Freed-Hardeman University, I would be remiss if I didn't add that Dr. Anderson has been instrumental in building our partnership with the Chester County School System. Most recently, she was called on to interview for our accreditation site visit conducted by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE). She was the ultimate participant during the interviews because she has coordinated many activities and/or partnership opportunities for Freed-Hardeman University. Without her and her willingness to do what's best for P-16 education, I'm not sure what our outcomes would have been for the criterial to meet "primary partnership agreements.
I highly recommend/nominate Dr. Belinda Anderson as a life-changer! She changes the lives of so many through her daily walk. Plus, she is the ultimate Christian woman. There were many days where I needed another leader to bounce ideas off of or to simply discuss leadership. Dr. Anderson was ALWAYS there for me. I cannot thank her enough for what she does for the community, within the Freed-Hardeman University community, at church, and most obvious, in her school. She is so deserving of this award!!!

I have had the privilege of knowing Dr. Belinda Anderson for over 17 years. Nine of those years, I was able to work alongside of her and observe her love and passion for helping young people. I now get to see her in a different light than co-worker and friend, she is my child’s principal. No matter what, those kids know that she loves them and that she is going to take care of them. Not only does she always have a smile on her face, she makes her students smile everyday, even on there worst days! She is the most inspirational, hard-working, outstanding principals out there. With the time i have been here at CCJHS i can say that i wouldn’t have made it through without her by my side! She pushes me to be the best version of me possible right along with the teachers as well!! She only wants what’s best for her students and nothing less. She sees the good in us and helps us see it ourselves! The effort she puts into making our school the best is amazing! That school is very blessed to have her and very blessed with what she has done! As a student of Dr.Belinda Anderson at Chester County Junior High she is an inspiration. At Chester County Junior High Dr.Belinda Anderson keeps us euphoric and excited about being at school. Dr.Belinda Anderson communicates with us like we are her own and is very pragmatic. She is determined to have the school reach a goal and as students we work very hard because of her vivacious spirit. My time at Chester County Junior High has been great because of the encouraging atmosphere. Our principle sets the highest standard of how to help others and set a phenomenal example of being kind to others. She is truly a life changer and motivates me from her exertion to lead and exhilarate the same way she does.
Dr. Anderson is one of the most impactful and influential people in my life. She is one of the people I can rely on help me improve myself. She always believes in me in a way that makes me feel impactful. I see her not just as a principal, but as an inspiration. I couldn't tell you all the times that she has helped me better myself. Dr. Belinda Anderson has been a blessing to Chester Co Jr High School. When she became principal, I had just finished my 11th year teaching in this school. I had always loved CCJHS and enjoyed my years here, but from the moment Dr. Anderson stepped foot in the door I learned what true EAGLE PRIDE looked like. Dr. Anderson is an amazing leader who loves the kids, the faculty, the staff, and the community. As she continues to lead CCJHS she pushes teachers to be their best while never making them feel inadequate. She has a special gift to make people want to be better when she is around. The support I feel from Dr. Anderson is unparalleled. The students feel the same way. They know she's loud, maybe even a little crazy at times, but most importantly they know she cares. She proves that every day by making conversations with each student and truly listening when they have concerns. Dr. Anderson is my principal, but she also makes a point to be a friend to all. She has changed my life and my school for the better, so I can't imagine a better nominee for Life Changer of the Year!

This lady, as I have mentioned to her many times, is an answered prayer. She radiates joy and determination. Dr. Belinda Anderson is one of the strongest people I know, hands down! I can guarantee that no one has walked away from a conversation with her feeling like they were not worth her time. Regardless of her responsibilities as a principal or teacher, she is always willing to lend an ear and provide a shoulder to lean on. She is a life changer for anyone that crosses her path.

Dr. Anderson is one of a kind. She is certainly a life-changer, and only one of the avenues she uses is education. I have known Belinda in several capacities over the years, and in each she has been an encouragement, a leader, and a piece of sunshine. I realize as I’m typing this that I have known Belinda now for 13 years. Her influence in my life hasn’t been short-lived. She encouraged me as a college student. When I changed paths, she encouraged me as I completed a nursing degree. As a new nurse. As a newly-wed, in times of tragedy, as a new mother and with a new business, she has found ways for her leadership and encouragement to seep into my life. I’m thankful that she is someone I can call friend. I first met Belinda when she was hired a gifted/special education teacher. I worked with her in creating IEPs for students and she also was my son’s gifted teacher. As a mom, I can’t say enough about all my son learned from her instruction. She set high expectations and the students strived to meet them! She saw what each individual child needed and steered them in that direction.
As a coworker, I’ve seen Belinda’s gift to be diligent in making her visions into reality. When she believes in something, she is not deterred by negativity or roadblocks. She is a creative problem solver who makes things happen. Belinda is very deserving of this nomination and honor.
Dr. Anderson has been a friend for a long time. I always knew she was special, but I learned just how special when she become the gifted teacher during my son's 6th-grade year. He had a very difficult year and I truly believe that Dr. Anderson is the only reason he finished the 6th grade. Her classroom was fun and challenging. She truly listened to the students and gave them a chance to voice their frustrations. Fast forward to my son's junior year in college and you will see that Dr. Anderson is still one of the heroes in his life. He has been a director of a major campus event for 2 years and Dr. Anderson is an amazing mentor who has literally held my son up when he could no longer stand from the stress and fatigue. As I type this, I am realizing that there just really aren't adequate words to describe what she has done for my son. And the thing is, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of parents who could say the same thing. She has this knack for motivating people and making them feel special. All of my children graduated from high school before Dr. Anderson was named principal of the junior high, so I don't have first-hand knowledge of the things she is doing but I am seeing and hearing some pretty great things. I can't think of anyone who has changed more lives than Dr. Belinda Anderson and I am forever grateful that my son was one of them.
Dr. Anderson is not only my boss, I consider her a friend. I came to work at CCJHS in January of last year. She made sure I was treated like family. From the interview to her video message telling me the GREAT news about being hired, she changed my life in a very positive way. I know love my job and feel appreciated for a change. She is a great motivator and encourager and expects our very best. If anyone at all deserves this award it is Dr. Belinda Anderson.
From summer church camps to roommates in college to life-long friends...I am so proud of you! You definitely have the personality to make any event better, happier, and life-changing. I have had the privilege of knowing Dr Anderson as a friend/member of the community, a parent of a student, and also as an employee at her school for a short time. She is an amazing person and has been a blessing to me since I’ve known her. She is always positive, yet always honest. I know she is someone I can go to for advice on just about anything, because I know she will tell me the truth, but somehow make me feel good about it no matter what. My daughters attended junior high with Dr A as principal and they both love and respect her still today. She is one of the strongest women I’ve every met. Today, l have a folder of notes in my desk drawer written in her hand over 13 years ago now. And somewhere along the way, she shared two quotes that I have posted above my computer. They are so faded now you can barely read them, but they still guide my work in education everyday...."Own the student's problem" (Dorsey) and "When in doubt lean toward the student" (Howe & Bellizzi). Dr A is so deserving of this recognition. My daughter was fortunate to have her as her 3rd grade teacher. She cared for each of her students and truly loved each one and pushed them to give their all. Fast forward, my daughter now for the 2nd year has had the privilege to have Dr A as her principal. I could go on and on about how much Dr. A has meant to us through the years and especially now as our daughters principal. Dropping off on the first day of jr high can be a scary thing for both student and parent but when we pulled in the parking lot and all the teachers were standing with welcoming signs cheering on the new 6th graders a peace came over me that I was sending my daughter into a place where she would feel loved and

Belinda and I have been Sisters in law for over twenty five years. I am continually amazed at her ability to motivate and desire to serve people within our family and in her community. Absolutely agree!!! I was so nervous about sending my daughter to Junior High until I heard that Dr. Anderson was taking over. Now that my daughter is there, I have not one worry about her walking in those doors every day, from the staff to the teachers and up to Dr. Anderson. I’m thankful for her and what she’s done for this school.
