Charlene Smith was nominated by her colleague, Ashley Walz.

"Ms. Smith is a true blessing in my life and the students she works with on a daily basis," said Walz. "Anytime I need her help or advice, she stops what she is doing and helps me. This is my first year of teaching, and I couldn't have imagined going through my first year without her. She has been a big mentor to me! She is the hardest working teacher I have ever met. Her focus is always on what is best for students. She is patient, kind, and the most caring teacher to her students. Her students know she cares about them, even after school hours. I have a roughly 50 minute drive to work, and some days, it's hard to get on the road, but I remember that I have Charlene and it's going to be a great day for me and her students!"

Mrs. Smith is, without a doubt, the most exceptional Special Education teacher I have ever worked with. She is calm, patient, positive, and compassionate toward all students. Mrs. Smith is extremely collaborative with all staff, and always willing to go above and beyond to help staff ensure maximum student success. Mrs. Smith is kind, honest, and sincere in every interaction she has with students, parents, and staff. Mrs. Smith has a huge heart for all students, but most especially, for students who struggle to learn. She truly cares about students success, building student confidence, and helping students become responsible citizens. Mrs. Smith has been an instrumental addition to our Kennedy team, and has single-handedly changed our Special Education department for the better of all students.

Charlene is a great special education teacher and is so deserving of this nomination. She spends many hours outside of the school day working to modify schoolwork for her students. As a regular education teacher who works with her, I have never had the classroom support from a special education teacher that I have with Charlene. She is a great co-worker who will give of herself to help another co-worker when they are struggling. She is an amazing person and this carries over into her classroom with her students.
