Geoffrey Tart was nominated by his former student, Sarah Todd.

"I have known Geoffrey since his first year of teaching. My father was his mentor teacher when he first began," said Todd. "He was my middle and high school band director. He works extremely hard to motivate his students and to give them every opportunity he possibility he can. Geoffrey is partially responsible for my decision to become a general music teacher. He took his time to cultivate my working knowledge of music theory, instruments (woodwind, brass, and percussion), and classroom management. In turn, I can work better with my own students over 20 years later!"

Geoffrey Tart's 1st year teaching was my Freshman year at Hobbton High School and he is the absolute best teacher I have ever had. During my difficult time in high school, he showed understanding, acceptance, and encouragement. I am so excited to have him teach my children. Geoffrey sparked a great interest in music education in my son and now he is in his 1st year at Mount Olive College for Music Education. Geoffrey not only push his students to become good musicians, but he instills dedication and discipline when it comes to marching and he encourages his students to be extraordinary.

I’ve know Mr. Tart since 6th grade and I am a college freshman. He has been a huge influence on me. If I hadn’t started with band in 6th I wouldn’t be the person I am today. He is a great teacher and friend!

I have known Geoffrey Tart since he started at Hobbton! My two older brothers were in band so I was at a lot of the concerts, competitions & football games throughout the years before I joined the band. I spent 6th - 12th grade with Mr. Tart as part of concert, marching & all county band. He was very encouraging to me & left a mark on my heart as one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. As a teacher now myself, I am so thankful for all he did for us! I met my husband in his class & Mr. Tart played the trumpet at our wedding. He holds a special part in our lives as he’s been there since the beginning of our friendship.

Geoffrey Tart has been my daughter's teacher for the past 5 years. He has to be the most dedicated, passionate, enthusiastic band director that I know. When my daughter first started band in the 6th grade, she had trouble playing the flute and getting the correct sound out of it. My daughter was so discouraged that she wanted to quit. Well, Mr. Tart would not have it. He took the time to show her a different way to hold the instrument and low and behold, she got it! 5 years later she is not only still in band but in her 2nd year of marching band. So thank you Geoffrey Tart for being so awesome.

Mr. Tart was my band director from the start of middle school up until my senior year, which was last year. Tart single handily is the hardest working educator at Hobbton High!

Geoffrey is an outstanding teacher and mentor. He taught me so much more than music. His passion for his students and guidance on and off the field helped me to become a strong leader. I graduated 16 years ago from Hobbton High School and still use the values that he taught me while under his direction. He deserves this award and many more!
