Music that Describes Ashley

Ashley Coffman was nominated by an anonymous student.

Ms. Coffman is a LifeChanger because she cares about her students. She is like a second mom to everyone she teaches. Even students who don't know her have respect for her because of her reputation. She has volunteered many times to buy clothes or shoes for students in need. She never puts anyone down and is ready to help at any time of the day.

"Even before I got to high school, she was helping me to be my best while inspiring my sister to develop her gifts," said her nominator. "She would do anything to make the life of a student better, and she's the reason we have an amazing high school choir. She would never judge anyone because of their attitude, or what they believe. Ms. Coffman thinks everyone is different, and that's the way it needs to be. She can be firm, but she never gets mad, and she will never yell at a student because she doesn't know what they're going through. For that reason, she is a LifeChanger."

Ashley came into my life when I was a junior in high school. As a choir director, she provided me with an abundance of opportunities to devlop my voice and performance skills. Her musicianship never faltered and she always held our ensembles to a high standard. However, it was her patience, empathy, and welcoming nature that changed my life. She showed me that music can be more than notes on a page, but a way to unite people of all walks of life. Ashley changed my life and inspired me to pursue a degree in music education and I am now happy to call her a colleague. She is more than deserving of this award.

As Ashley’s mom, since Ashley was a young child music was a huge part of her life along with “saving the world” one child at a time!! She spends a lot of her free time educating herself so her students can become lifelong musicians which involves attending conferences, earning her masters, collaborating with colleagues, and researching the best way to keep her students informed. Ashley loves her kids and gives her best each and every day.she is defiantly a “life Changer”

I have known Ashley for years, first as my fellow student in high school and now, many years later, as my fellow teacher at a high school in another community. She is ever dedicated to her students and her craft and is universally respected throughout our large school and the wider community. She is without a doubt a lifechanger.

Ms. Coffman was hands down the best choral teacher I could have ever asked for at my time at Eudora. We had a blast and I will never forget all the memories! She is the reason I became so confident in my love for singing and opening up the voice I thought I never had. She would give any of her students the shirt off her back, and is always there to support you even after you move on from high school. I was so blessed with have Ms. Coffman for my senior year before she moved on to Topeka! I love you so much!

Ashley has been a life changer for people around her since she was a little girl. I was her second grade teacher and can honestly say in my 36 years of teaching, she was one of the sweetest, kindest, most considerate students and that inner genuine caring feeling she has for others has obviously followed her into her career. It’s no surprise to me at all that she was nominated for this award and she is without a doubt deserving of it.

I couldn’t agree more with this very perceptive nomination! Ashley is much more than a successful music educator. She is a person who brings success to every student she touches!

Ashley is so passionate about teaching and helping her students. Even when she is not at work she is still thinking of ways to help her kids and working through how to be the most effective teacher. She’s so deserving of this!
