Music that Describes Michelle

Michelle Groh was nominated by Jessica Starnes, the parent of two students.

"I have known Mrs. Groh for a few years. She had my son and now has my daughter in her class," said Starnes. "She works very hard to make sure every child learns to the best of their ability. When they don't understand the material, she works with them until they do. Her passion and love for each child shows! She truly loves what she does, and she has made a difference in my children's lives. We love her!"

She was a super nice teacher. I remember how she would make anything that wouldn't be fun and she made it fun. She is Kind, Loving, and Caring. She was one of the best teachers I have had!

Mrs.Groh is a great teacher! She always welcomes you to school in the morning with a smile. She is very funny and she makes everyone happy every day. When I came to kindergarten I was super nervous but when I met Mrs.Groh every night I would be so excited to go to school. I love school now and it's all because of Mrs.Groh!

As Michelle's husband, I can't be objective. But what I can do is provide a perspective most of the others who have shared comments have not seen. Michelle comes home almost every night wanting to share stories of what happened in her classroom that day. She loves what she does and she loves her students. For years she worked at the day school which is where kids with significant behavior or other issues go to school. She brought the same caring and kindness to those kids she does to her mainstream students. To me, that is the embodiment of how she applies her faith and good nature in her vocation. Truly caring for "the least of these" as we are taught as children. My only hope is that she hits her burnout point soon. Then our evening conversations can be a little more manageable. Me: "How was work?" Michelle: "Fine." Never going to happen but a guy can hope!

My daughter, Brooke was in Michelle's Kindergarten class last year. She made such an impact on Brooke and built such a great relationship with her. Even though my daughter is now in 1st grade, Michelle makes an effort to greet her daily and it make Brooke feel so special. She went above and beyond any of my expectations of her as a teacher. Michelle has such a kind heart and truly loves the work that she does. Not only was my daughter lucky enough to have Michelle as a teacher, but I am lucky enough to get to work with her every day! She brings so much joy and humor to our team but also is so supportive when any of need anything. I have learned a lot from her and am a better teacher myself because of her. She is SO deserving of this award!

I can't think of anyone more deserving of this award than Mrs. Groh. Both of my boys had her for a kindergarten teacher. My children are complete opposite of one another. My oldest has high anxiety. Every morning I would walk him to her classroom and he would cry as I left him. Mrs. Groh would email me letting me know he had calmed down and was interacting in class. She would use many interventions to help him feel comfortable while still helping all her other students. She didn't only teach him the curriculum but she taught my son confidence, self esteem and believed in him. My son encountered many hardships at home that year as well. Mrs Groh always made sure to take time out of her day to let me know how he was doing and to remind us she was there for both him and I. Three years later, and she still goes out of her way to help my son anyway she can. Whether it be by asking him if he is okay, walking him to class, or being an ear when he needs someone to talk to. My youngest son is very hyper and was learning self control when he entered kindergarten. He is a very quick learner and will get bored easily if he is not challenged. Mrs Groh picked up on this right away. She mastered teaching him self control and challenged him daily. She is able to teach each student regardless of their level of understanding versus teaching the class as a whole. She played a huge impact in my childrens education. Mrs. Groh has set the expectation for my children as they continue their education at Rex. She has a heart of gold and has spent money out of her own pocket for her students. Examples are; buying lunch for students that forgot theirs, buying pajamas for kids that show up on pajama day in regular clothes so they don't feel left out, as well as winter coats for those that may not be able to afford it. Mrs Groh is active in keeping parents up to date with their child and will go above and beyond to be able to meet with any parent to discuss any concerns they may have. I will never be able to thank Mrs Groh enough for her dedication and inspiration she has shown my children. Thank you for being a great role model for my boys! They both adore you. Mrs Groh, you will always hold a special place in my families heart. Thank you!

Michelle has taught all 3 of my sons in kindergarten. She is so much more than a teacher, she has become a great friend. How many people can say that about their child's teacher? She is the most patient adult I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I adore her for making learning so much fun. My sons are now in 5th, 3rd, and 1st grade, but they still insist on stopping in Mrs. Groh's classroom every single morning to give her a hug! She has made such an impact on the lives of my children, and I know they will carry the love she gave them and the lessons she taught them forever.

Michelle was my Basketball coach over 20 years ago (sorry, that makes us both sound very old). She was also a volunteer for the youth ministry at the church we attended. More than that, she was a role model and mentor who took time out of her life to invest in the lives of her students and players. The impact she made in my life is unmeasurable. She is a part of who I am today. I have never been in her classroom but I can only imagine she Is an AMAZING teacher. She is a beautiful, kind, compassionate and very bubbly person, and she deserves all of the recognition she can get.

Over twenty years ago Michelle came to teach at the building where I had been teaching for many years. I was so impressed with her teaching abilities that it became my hope she would take over my classroom when I retired, which she did. I was also so impressed with her kindness and concern toward her students that I decided to introduced her to my son, whom she married. I know Michelle well and agree wholeheartedly that she is deserving of this award.

It was my good fortune to have Mrs. Groh come to Rex Elementary from another school in our district around 8 years ago. Besides being her former building principal, fortunately Michelle also was my daughter's 4th grade teacher as well. Michelle's forte is building authentic relationships with students. Her students know that she deeply cares for them but will also hold them accountable for making good decisions. She has an uncanny ability to read situations with students and is a sagacious judge of character. Michelle enjoys children and adults as evidenced by her positive disposition and her sense of humor which she displays often. Mrs. Groh has changed the lives of many students and will do so for many years to come. She is the epitome of a teacher that changes lives.

Michelle has worked as a special education and regular education teacher for many years. She has the kindest heart for everyone she meets. Her students are well loved and taught much more than our curriculum. They learn about compassion, sharing, caring for the right reasons, and many daily lessons from her heart. I have worked with Michelle as a co-worker, team member, and friend for over 5 years in kindergarten. I love her passion for life!

I have worked as a para for Michelle Groh. She always goes above and beyond to assure her students feel emotionally safe and are successful with the lessons. Michelle had a student who struggled with behaviors. The student was having a remarkable day. Michelle took time to step out and call the child’s parent to report what a positive day the child was having. This parent had never had a positive phone call. Previous calls were typically to report negative behaviors. This was a life changing event for the parent. There was now hope. It was also a life changing moment for me also. I raised my expectations of teachers to include always finding the positive and finding a way to make students and parents feel proud and emotionally safe. Thank you Michelle Groh, because of you, I became a better person.
