Efrain Valdivia was nominated by Elizabeth Gutierrez, a member of the community.

"I am a grandmother of two students at Miami Lakes Middle School. I met Mr Valdivia when I was working at the school, first as a volunteer, and then as a part-time employee," said Gutierrez. "At the time I met him, I loved to talked to parents and to the teachers. One day, about 2 1/2 years ago, I had to deliver some copies to his room. This man had a group of students who only a teacher with lots of experience could handle."

"This year, one of my grandchildren is in his class," said Gutierrez. "My grandchild told me Mr. Valdivia explains everything to his class in an interesting way. Science is not an easy subject, and we are blessed that my grandchild is doing great this year in school. We have to thank Mr. Valdivia for his patience, professionalism, and knowledge. My two grandkids are very fortunate to have had him as a teacher. He should be recognize for his service in Miami Dade County Public Schools."
