Adrian Richardson was nominated by an anonymous colleague.
Deputy Richardson began his time at Winter Springs High School during the 2016-17 school year, after previously serving as a school resource deputy at a local elementary school. His career has spanned across three law enforcement agencies in two states.
Upon his arrival at Winter Springs High School, Deputy Richardson immediately took a sense of pride and ownership regarding his assignment. He didn't view his role at the school as a position to work, but as an integral part of a larger family. His enthusiasm was evident almost immediately, and he wasted no time immersing himself into the school culture. During his first year as the resource deputy, Deputy Richardson was recognized by the school as Employee of the Month, which showed what an immediate impact he made on the faculty, staff and students.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office has taken a forward thinking and proactive approach in the realm of school safety and security. Even before the tragic events at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the legal mandates that followed, every public school in Seminole County had a sworn law enforcement officer assigned to the campus at all times. The deputy sheriffs and municipal police officers were empowered to take active roles in planning, decision making and guidance with regard to safety and security issues. These champions worked collaboratively with school administrators to create safer, more secure learning environments.
Deputy Richardson has taken the mantle of school safety practitioner with a positive, professional and engaging attitude. There is no need to even ask him what he thinks or believes, because his actions speak so much louder than words. He has consistently patrolled the campus and sought to interact with anyone he can. Regardless of a student's situation in life, he has always maintained positive and professional relationships, with desires to truly impact and help all students. He has a passion to be a positive role model and make a difference in the lives of youth, and he has an innate ability to connect with the students and adults, alike, in ways many are unable. He takes the time to listen and give feedback, with the intention of addressing the root causes of issues, not just the surface problems. Deputy Richardson understands he should not only seek to address the symptoms, but prevent what has created problems in the first place. He has always been counted on to help faculty members by providing classroom presentations and informal counseling to help students of all walks achieve greater successes in life.
Deputy Richardson has remained involved with students who engaged in extracurricular activities, whether it's by helping with the weightlifting team or talking with football players about an upcoming game. He has also been known to wear shoes that represent the Winter Springs High School colors to show his support for the school. A student who attended the school was the victim of a random drive-by shooting in another area of Seminole County while he slept in his home. When Deputy Richardson learned of what happened, he wanted to help the young man. He knew the student was a basketball fan, so he used his community contacts to obtain a basketball signed by members of the Orlando Magic professional basketball team and presented it to the student. This is simply one of a number of actions Deputy Richardson has taken on to have positive effects on the students at his school.
"Whenever I have the opportunity to visit the Winter Springs High School campus, I never find Adrian in one place," said his nominator. "He is always moving and never predictable. He understands the importance of staying random and not falling into a routine. Regardless of what he does to maintain proper situational awareness and personal safety, he always makes sure to engage with students and help them see him as a mentor. Watching Adrian interact with students, faculty and staff, and the way he conducts himself on a daily basis provides me with a great understanding as to why he is so valued where he works."
"Adrian is also a consummate professional and does not lose focus on what his position as a deputy sheriff represents, the nominator continued. "I can always count on him for honest input and sensible solutions to issues presented. He is always looking out for concerning matters related to safety and security, and he is proactive to address concerning incidents or behaviors and ensure they do not progress. He works very well with other law enforcement and public school professionals, and he has developed great relationships to better resolve a variety of matters. Adrian's work ethic is second-to-none, and I have great confidence he will develop into a tremendous leader."
"Adrian embodies what the role of a school resource law enforcement officer is meant to be. He has taken on a myriad of roles that include: law enforcement officer, social worker, mentor, friend and guide," said his nominator. "He does not view his position merely as a job or a means to an end. Adrian knows the role is so much more than just being 'the cop on campus,' and views it more as a partner with the community."

He is always helpful, resourceful even at 6:45 am. I am glad he was nominated for a "LIFECHANGER of the Year Award." Wouldn't have it no other way.
It has been my pleasure to watch and be under the protection of Deputy Richardson for some time now at Winter Springs High School. His positive interaction with both students and faculty hearken back to the days of the beat cop: everyone knows him, most like him, all respect him.

Deputy Richardson, you are truly an inspiration to the students and staff here as at WSHS. Never in my role as Counselor, have I seen a Resource Officer connect to the students in ways that you have done. You see kids for what they can become and help guide them into that direction. Because of this, you have helped to make positive changes in the lives of our students. Your compassion and understanding for students is remarkable. You gift of motivating youth is your strength.
Dep. Adrian Richardson is such an asset to our school! (WSHS) He always has a positive attitude, knows what's going on with the kids, and cares about them, too. Adrian Richardson is a loving, caring, sharing husband and father. He is interesting and interested.
The same characteristics Adrian displays at home, he brings to work at Winter Springs on a consistent
basis. His employer is very fortunate to have him.
You are a life changer and positive role model for so many people! Congratulations on your nomination and Good Luck!!!
Husband. Father. Resource Deputy. Three very different roles, fulfilled by one amazing man.
Adrian, my husband, is the most loving, caring, supportive, protective man I know. His ability to make me feel valued above all is something words cannot describe.
Adrian the father - the man our kids look up to, their hero. Adrian does an amazing job being present in our children’s lives. Even after a long day, he comes home and keeps our kids first; playing catch in the yard with our son.. pushing our daughter in the swing. He cooks dinner, he helps clean up around the house. He is setting the bar high, the standards for what kind of man we want our son to grow up to be, and what kind of man we hope our daughter marries..
Adrian the School Resource Deputy. The deputy who goes out of his way to teach his students right from wrong. The deputy that encourages his students to be the change they want to see. The deputy that doesn’t allow at risk kids to fail, just because they are labeled “at risk”. Adrian goes the extra mile to make sure the students know he’s there for them. His door is open for those who need advice, guidance, or even just a good laugh.
I once asked myself how Adrian would balance these roles. Would he have time for his family? Will he be drained after filling such a big role all day as a resource deputy? How could he possibly have anything left for us, after he’s given so much to his work? The answer is this. Yes, always, because Adrian is selfless. He puts others before himself, he makes sure we are provided for and taken care of, regardless of how hard his day was. His heart is big, his passion is strong and commitment is unwavering.
The students at Winter Springs High School know our children. They dance with our daughter in the court yard, and call our son little deputy Rich. The bond Adrian has made with these young men and women is absolutely incredible to see. We attend basketball and football games and as soon as Adrian walks in the building students literally run to him to tell them about their day. He is invited to graduation by students he’s helped and encouraged to never give up, keep pushing through. He attends prom and homecoming. He gives his all to these kids. He goes above and beyond, not because he has to, but because he knows he has the ability to be the one person that might be able to get through to a few kids that need him the most.
When he started In his role as a Resource Deputy he said he if could just save one kid, make one kid realize the decisions he or she was making were the wrong ones, and help them turn it around, he would be successful. Adrian has surpassed his goal of helping just one kid. He is impacting and changing lives daily. He is doing more than he knows, just by showing up and being present. By listening to those who feel like no one cares. By driving someone home who didn’t have any other way to get there. By waiting until the last kid gets picked up after a game.
The sky is the limit for Adrian. I look forward to seeing what he does next, and continuing to support him in a career that I thought would be more dangerous than rewarding. Seeing Adrian impact these kids lives is amazing. A blessing. One that we do not take advantage of, but rather celebrate.
Adrian, I am proud of you and all you are doing for me, for our family, for your students and your community. You make us all very proud. Congratulations on an amazing nomination. You deserve every bit of recognition for the selfless work you do every single day. I see you. They see you. We all see you. We are so proud to recognize and celebrate your accomplishments!
I love you! Stay safe. Be strong. Change Lives. Always come home.
Congratulations! Well deserved!
As a great Father, Husband and Officer, Adrian is a great role model for everyone he comes in contact with! He is very deserving of this award!!!!
Congratulations on the nomination! Thank you for your service and keep up the great work!
One of the best people I have known. Humble, honest and kind. Glad to call him a friend.
I have had the pleasure to work with Adrian in his capacity as a school resource officer. Deputy Richardson is a wonderful role model to the students he comes in contact with. Not mentioned in his biography was the collaborative work with educators and other law enforcement officers to update the education of our youth in different aspects such as social media, new drug trends, peer pressure, and digital citizenship. Deputy Richardson is not only an exemplary employee, he is a good friend to many and a wonderful family man.
It is a privilege to know him.
Adrian is an amazing deputy, father, and man. He is full of integrity and professionalism as he models them to all that come in contact with him. I am blessed to serve with him and am always encouraged after my contacts with him! He is well deserving of this reward.

Adrian joined our family when he and my niece Kaitie married. He has shown himself to be a wonderful husband, devoted father of two fantastic children and a man who serves his fellow man each day that he puts in his uniform. I am proud to say Thank You, Adrian for all you do to serve in each role. Your work in the school is just one aspect of your devotion to serving others but is very crucial to the protection of all. You are a positive role model for all!

I do not know this officer personally but just reading his story is enough for me. He sounds absolutely amazing and a wonderful example of a man and officer to his young students. We need more officers like this in our world and in our schools. One’s who strive to make a difference in everyone’s lives. I’m proud to say I know his wife and she is a beautiful person too. If anyone deserves this award it is him. I will think of him often when I see my son’s school resource officer. I wish he was more like this wonderful gentlemen.
So proud of you my friend! You do amazing things at WSHS! So well-deserved, keep up the good work!

I am so proud of you Bro! Your “Light” is always shining! Continue being great! You’re an inspiration to us all. Love ya Bro!
Adrian was raised by a single mother who always modeled service above self for her sons. It is so wonderful to see that her influence is deeply embedded and that Adrian is paying forward the support and encouragement he has received throughout his life. We need more young men like Adrian to be visible models for what is possible with commitment, hard work, and a compassionate heart. I can't think of a more deserving recipient of this recognition.

It’s impressive that in the midst of all the turmoil associated with maintaining strategic school security there is an officer that can take the position to a new level of excellence. It is my belief that his methods will be used as an example for others in the field that are tasked with guarding our most precious treasures. Keep up the great work!
If anyone deserves this award it’s Deputy Richardson. I am a preschool teacher and I had the pleasure of having Deputy Richardson’s son Cole in my class. Each year we celebrate our community service heroes and last year Deputy Richardson took the time out of his busy schedule to come into our classroom and read a story to my children. He also brought in badges and coloring books as well. The highlight of the afternoon was when Deputy Richardson took the children outside to his police car. He took the children in two at a time and showed them the equipment and of course he couldn’t leave without flashing the lights and turning on the siren. Deputy Richardson became a superhero in the eyes of my students that day. Congratulations on your nomination and may your future continue to shine bright so that you may continue to be a light for generations to come.
Congratulations! This was so well deserved.
You so deserve to win the award. Hopefully will be hearing this soon. Good luck!
