Music that Describes Jeanna

Jeanna Plumly was nominated by her assistant principal, Jeni Hopkins.

Jefferson Elementary Center is located in the middle of a rough area. Students face challenging situations on a daily basis, and many of them live with guardians, grandparents, or in foster care. Fortunately, Ms. Plumly has made a drastic impact in the BD classroom. Not only are her students' behavioral needs met, but academically, they are succeeding above expectations. She is an advocate for her students, and she will stand up for their rights and assist them in any way that she can. She provides resources for the parents of her students and points them in the right direction for help.

Ms. Plumly took over the school food pantry last year with her students. They prepare bags of food to be sent home with students on Fridays for the weekends. She also started the Pay It Forward program, where the students prepare an entire meal's worth of ingredients and items to be sent home to families in need. If a family doesn't need the food, they can pass it on. Ms. Plumly has received grants for the food pantry to keep it stocked.

Ms. Plumly is also a vital part of the school leadership team. She is currently working on her Masters in Educational Leadership in hopes of becoming an administrator. She offers positive insights for the school and its culture. Ms. Plumly attends every school event and often volunteers.

Overall, the work Ms. Plumly does at school with her students and the staff is amazing, and her commitment to the job is far above expectations. She's doing it all while helping her son battle cancer. Her son was diagnosed last year, and she has been in and out of school to accompany him to treatment and visits with the doctor. At school, however, she never misses a beat. She is in constant contact with her classroom, maintaining IEP's , SAT meetings, and the rest of her job duties. She participates with the students, even while she is out of the building.

"Jeanna is a wonderful person who loves her family and her students. She deserves this award and many others for her commitment, her passion, and her dedication to the field," said Hopkins.

Excellent teacher and I had the opportunity to work at the same school with her many years ago. Such an asset to a school, and the children and parents that she works with. Not only that, but she also does many things to help those in her community. Well deserved for her to be honored for the person that she has become, and exhibits to all those around her. She is an excellent example of what others should try to achieve.
