Music that Describes Janet

Janet Nellis was nominated by Ali Merz, the parent of a first grade student.

"My daughter, Mylie, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in September 2017," said Merz. "Since Mylie was in Kindergarten, Janet Nellis was assigned to assist in blood sugar checks,  shots, and pump management during school hours. In the time that Janet has been the para for my daughter's classes, Mylie has been able to be a carefree kid and enjoy all aspects of school. Janet has gone above and beyond for Mylie to ensure she has a normal day-to-day routine."

"Janet has experience with Type 1 Diabetes because of a close family member," said Merz. "Her understanding of Type 1 Diabetes, friendly demeanor, and smiling face, regardless of circumstance,  has helped our daughter to embrace her diagnosis and not feel 'different' from her peers. Janet has been a mentor, a friend, and a sounding board for us - all while maintaining her other job duties as a paraprofessional. I truly believe that she has done more than expected as a staff member of the school and that she deserves recognition for doing so. We can never thank her enough for her dedication."

My son Coty was diagnosed with T1D November 2016. Janet has been giving Coty his insulin shots before lunch at school everyday. If there is a question she calls me so we can decide what’s needed. She is experienced and knowledgeable with T1D. It is awesom having her at school. Janet is always very caring and there to help. She does a wonderful job taking care of my son Coty. I am very thankful that she has taken on this huge responsibility, it is VERY much appreciated!! Janet definitely goes above and beyond her regular job duties.
