LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Britney Matthews was nominated by her colleague, Likesha Davis.

"As her colleague, I’ve enjoyed having Britney on my teaching team," said Davis. "I hope being recognized as a LifeChanger will truly show her how much she is appreciated, not only for her love of her students, but her talent, skills and dedication to our community."

"Britney impressed me with her zest for life, gratitude, self-control, and her commitment to lifelong learning," said Davis. "She successfully collaborates with others and always takes advantage of professional development opportunities to hone her craft. She also started so many groundbreaking practices at work. One very meaningful practice was going out of her way to elicit feedback from her students. She invited them to share their experiences at the end of each semester, which was really impactful in students realizing the importance of their voice. Today, this practice has been implemented school-wide. It’s this commitment to growth and her students’ well-being that makes Britney an outstanding educator who empowers her pupils. Now, she will have the opportunity to empower the community, and one day, the world in a larger capacity.

Ms. Matthews is charismatic and creative, and she thinks outside the box. She has functioned in a variety of roles at school in addition to teaching, from interventionist to program coordinator. Ms. Matthews is always the first to come to work and the last to leave. She is a dedicated and passionate educator who helps out any way possible, whether it's something big or small.  She has shown excellent classroom management skills and developed a rapport with students, colleagues, and parents that is characterized by mutual respect.

"Many of the students we shared still come to me specifically to praise Ms. Matthews' teaching and the impact she has had on their lives," said Davis. "Beyond her strengths as a teacher, Britney is also a talented event planner and has many projects and displays enhancing school meetings and functions. I look forward to learning more about the accomplishments that lie in her professional future."
