Marketa Croom's nominator would like to remain anonymous.
Mrs. Croom is a true "champion for children!" She has been in education for almost 20 years, serving as a teacher and assistant principal. This school year is her first year serving as the principal at Burnett Elementary School, a Title I school in Douglas County, GA.
"Over the course of my career in education, I have met hundreds of administrators. I must say, Mrs. Croom is one of the best...and she's a 'baby principal!' She is an extraordinary leader," said her nominator. "I know how difficult it is to be a principal, especially in a Title I school. Juggling employees, students, parents, meetings, family, community, policy, data collection/analysis, and Title I mandates, all while running a school, is a monumental task! In the past, I have worked with many great administrators who encouraged and pushed their teachers and students, but the manner in which Mrs. Croom communicates her high expectations is admirable. She has incredible interpersonal skills and an ability to make everyone feel good, while also pushing them for results."
"The manner in which Mrs. Croom inspires, encourages, and challenges us all is remarkable," said her nominator. "I have learned more from her in these past three months than I have in my entire career as an educator."
Mrs. Croom is an incredible role model in the way she communicates and builds relationships with students, staff, and parents. When a student, staff member, or parent is "in trouble", they will always feel loved by Mrs. Croom and will take away some life-long lesson. When having a crucial conversation, she does not berate or belittle the person to whom she is talking, but works with them to find a solution to avoid the problem from reoccurring. She never singles anyone out or passes judgment on mistakes made, but consistently focuses on learning from the mistakes, moving on and getting the work done. She makes Burnett fun, but when it comes down to business, her team will follow suit.
One of her favorite quotes is, “Teachers who put relationships first don’t just have students for one year. They have students who view them as ‘their teacher’ for a lifetime," from Justin Tarte. Mrs. Croom not only has this compassion for children, but an abundant amount of benevolence for the community and its needs. She will be the first to “roll up her sleeves” to help beautify the campus, clean a bathroom, tidy up the workroom, place treats in the teacher’s lounge, or clean up in the community. No matter the baggage or background of a person, Mrs. Croom sees a shining star in everyone.
"Mrs. Croom is one of the most humble leaders I’ve had the pleasure to work with," said her nominator. "She is a true servant leader and often hides from recognition. She begins each week by saying, 'As always, we thank you for your continued dedication to our babies. This journey will never be easy but together, we make magic happen.' She truly believes this, not only for her students and staff, but her parents and the community, as well. Mrs. Croom is extremely gracious and professional at all times. I have never seen her distressed, even when I know she is, all while working on her doctorate and battling lupus. She also emulates this quote from Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and puts in a frame for each Shared Leadership Team Member: 'Be humble. Be hungry. And always be the hardest worker in the room.' This is the embodiment of Marketa Croom."
Mrs. Croom is laser-focused with her vision to be a "Champion for Children"—this year’s school-wide theme. She adopted this charge from the late, great Rita Pierson, with whom she shares many characteristics. Mrs. Croom has a passion for educating all children. Her goal to eradicate the “school-to-prison pipeline” is what drives her to expect the best and be the best under every situation. Her goal is to eradicate this cultural trend, and she will not quit, or let any student, staff or parent quit, until all of "her babies" are successful.

I concur with EVERYTHING said about Mrs. Croom, plus so much more!!! I had the privilege of having Mrs. Croom as my assistant principal at Beulah Elementary, and she made each day fun, energetic, and PURPOSEFUL! She puts her whole heart into children and adults!! No one is more deserving of this honor....she is truly extraordinary!
Mrs. Croom has always showed leadership. Even in high school in the Marching Band, she demonstrated perfection. She has a way to push and motivate in a caring way. I swear she was going to be a drill Sargent. But she was able to push a line of freshman girls to a point of excellence. She impacts everyone around her and makes a relationship feel personal. She is and has always been an excellent all around person.

Principal Croom is the BEST under every situation! Her bubbly personality makes everyone feel as if they've known hee forever. M. Croom is an amazing princpal and person. It warms my heart to see Principal Croom greeting each of her students every morning with a fist bump and a smile. She also welcome her staff with an uplifting musical selections to get them moving and ready to receive their students every morning.
M. Croom is known for rolling up her sleeves to assist with serving food in the cafeteria, opening car doors for students in the morning and for providing coverage in the front office if needed. There's never a job or situation too small or big that she's not ready to dive in head first to handle.

Mrs. Croom is a phenomenal educator! She pays attention to detail and she takes the time to know the story of all of her students. She is not afraid to ask questions, because she has a strong desire to do well. Mrs. Croom is a role model for her for those that she works with on a daily basis. Having known her for quite some time, the amazing thing about her is that she has remained the same humble person that I met several years ago!

Mrs. Croom is AWESOME! I am a school counselor graduate student intern at her school and I have only been there for a month and a half and in that month and a half I have been so amazed at Mrs. Croom's passion for her students and others! What impresses me the most about Mrs. Croom is that she is genuine and truly cares about her students and staff! You immediately feel and know this when you meet her! I have only been at the school for a short time and in that short time I have seen so many great things that she does for her students and staff! It is a pleasure to support Ms. Croom as a nominee for the Lifechanger of the Year. Ms. Croom is not only a leader but a mentor.
