I have known Sylvia for over 10 years. She is a great candidate for Life Changer of the Year because she is a dedicated teacher and has touched the lives of every student that has come through her classroom. She has a positive attitude and uplifting spirit. She loves teaching and reaching the youth and it shows. Sylvia goes above and beyond the call of duty and works tirelessly to make sure that the students are proficient in the subject area. She is always willing to buy supplies ( out of her own pocket) to make sure students have what they need. She shows patience, understanding, and compassion to her students. Award Sylvia Stugis for all of her hard work with the Life Changers of the Year award!

Our district has its societal challenges, but Sylvia models how to overcome these obstacles for the sake of overall student success. It would be nice if she were recognized for all her skills, knowledge and sacrifice.
I have tremendous respect for Sylvia Sturgis. Her energy and skills as an educator allow her classroom to be a positive and dynamic learning environment. I have volunteered in her classroom for several years and am repeatedly impressed by how well Sylvia knows her students' abilities and needs. Sylvia's dedication to her students and the art of teaching make her a powerful roll model.
A Pontiac educator for 35 years, I had the distinct privilege of having Sylvia Boykins Sturgis as a student. Her ability, effort, character, and integrity stood out then. She was part of a group of students in my career that were "outstanding" in every way. I never forgot her.
The only thing I can add is this. Before I retired,I had the privilege of observing her as an adult and as an educator. Nothing diminished from her youth. All of her exceptIonal skills and compassion were just transferred to the heights of greatness in her career. I applaud the admirable person and professional she has become.

It was truly a blessing having Ms. Sturgis as a teacher. She truly cares about all her students, and she always makes learning fun while still making educational. She motivates students to do their best in school, and she stands as a role model to her students. I may have been a student of hers from a long time ago, but she still has my greatest respect. I am glad that she was a person in my life who motivated me to achieve a secondary education and strive for success.
She changes, and IMPROVES the lives of not only her students, but her colleagues as well. Whenever students need a sponsor she is there. When a coworker needs help or ideas, Sylvia is there. It is clear that all the lives she touches matter to her, and we are all better for knowing her.
