Betty Davis was nominated by her daughter, Sandi Espinoza.
Betty always told her daughter it was important that each of her students were treated as if they were her own child. She always wanted the best for them. Oftentimes, she spends her own money to make sure that her students are adequately prepared for class. She constantly brainstorms ideas to make the students better appreciate her lessons. Additionally, she spends many hours before and after school to make sure her students receive all that she can offer.
"It doesn't just stop after they leave her class. She follows them through their freshman year at college. She wants to make sure that they make the transition smoothly," Espinoza said. "She communicates with parents so that they also know her expectations for their child. Students appreciate what she does for them."
Davis was voted the "Watson Quality Ford Teacher of the Week" through nominations from her students. She always tells her students, "Can't never could." No one can ever say you can't do something. Davis believes that no matter what a student's challenge may be, any student with a willingness to learn can achieve their goals.
"Am I prejudiced because she is my mom? No. I just know that she really cares for her students. I have watched my mother become mother to so many students." Espinoza said. "She could have retired 10 years ago, but she always says nobody is going to care about her "babies" the way she does. They may be high school students, but they are still her babies. Her students want to succeed because they don't want to let her down."
