Daisy Lord was nominated by her colleague, Maria Scher.
"I've been working with Ms. Lord for a few years now. Since my first year with her, I noticed how much she cares about our Academy students, their teachers, and our community," said Scher. "She has a lot on her plate, but no matter how big or challenging her projects are, she always confronts them with love and passion, and the results are always outstanding."
Ms. Lord's commitment to education, students, and the community goes far beyond expectations. The work she puts in to have the result she expects is truly amazing, from the special Academy Open House, to middle school visits, to the Showcase of Schools.
The highlight of her year is the Academy Awards Night. Planning for this project begins four months in advance. It's a lot of work, and the result is always positive and beautiful. Ultimately, students and their families always enjoy the event, from the stars with the academy students' names on them, to the slide shows with their GPA/Community hours, to the decorations, and finally, to the Silent Auction.
Last school year, the Silent Auction raised enough money to give 20 scholarships to academy students. Over 500 letters were sent to the community asking for donations, and the result was a huge success.
"We always say that Ms. Lord is the star of our Academy - and her love for what she does goes beyond anyone's expectations," said Scher.
I hope Mrs. Lord wins the life changer award because she is so awesome at what she does. She has helped me so much with my schedule and sharing information about the different programs at my high school. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't know what I wanted to do with my life. I am so thankful for her. :)
Mrs. Lord has been amazing these 4 years I've been in High School! She has helped me plan my future and has provided me with opportunities to learn about new jobs as well as how I can use my certifications after High School. She has changed my life for sure.
As a student in the computer academy as well as the fashion academy for four years, Ms. Lord has been extremely helpful regarding information about the academies- especially to any incoming freshmen. Overall, Ms. Lord has been overwhelmingly positive and caring towards each and every student she meets and I sincerely hope that she wins.
I really hope Mrs. Lord wins the life changer of the year. She is hard working and very understanding. I've been her student aid for two years now and I've learned to stay positive and keep going at my passion and don't let anyone stop me. Daisy Lord has boundless energy and excitement. What I like most about her is that she makes her positive energy contagious. She is creative, has initiative, attention to detail, and is an exceptional leader.
Her sterling character and passion for helping and supporting others is commendable. We can tell when she is out in the community building bridges and creating collaboration, because our offices seem empty without her presence!

I met Ms. Daisy Lord through our work with the School District of Palm Beach County's Choice and Career Options Department's Choice/Magnet programs and the academies involved, plus with the application and lottery processes. As an educator who has spent many years working with our district schools and personnel, I can attest that Ms. Lord exemplifies what a true educator should be. She is always very willing to extend her time and efforts not only with students but with other district and school staff professionals as well. She is extremely positive, caring and genuinely interested when involved in any educational endeavor, event, or simply in conversation.
Daisy is the type of person who always makes the person that she is working and speaking with feel valued and involved.
She works tirelessly to raise funds in scholarship support for the students at John I. Leonard, students who are so appreciative of the scholarship award, no matter the amount available.
Ms. Lord is an asset to John I. Leonard High School and to the students and is most deserving of being recognized for the Life Changer Award.

As our Academy Coordinator, she really takes the time and effort to discover what students’ potentials are and then she shows them how to focus on their skills. I don't know much about Ms.Lord since I came from a different school this year but I will say on my first week here she was very kind and patient with me. She was willing to help me with my schedule and make sure I was settled in and liked my experience starting in a new environment. I can tell she is a very kind and sincere lady with a goal of ensuring all her students are successful and get far in life.
I think that she is the best teacher ever, she is patient. To me she deserves a diploma and even more, my favorite thing of her is that she is always disposed to help and if one day you feel bad or tired, you will see her cheering you up on the hallways.

Daisy definitely deserves this nomination, acknowledgment and the accolades that go along with it! Daisy is a very hard worker and truly cares about all who come across her path. She has no greater wish than for all students to become successful. Students know this and that is the reason so many students have done so. She has impacted so many people, both at John I Leonard HIgh School and within the community. Daisy can handle any task/situation that life hands her with finesse. She has a way of confronting students with issues that they may not want to hear, yet need to, and is kind, tactful, gracious and can still get her point across. I have never seen her have a bad day or say an unkind word even when her patience is tested. She is an amazing role model to all who meet her. Daisy is very selfless, thoughtful and considerate of students, parents, co-workers and those within the secular community. She always goes above and beyond the call of duty. I am proud to be her co-worker and blessed to know her. As the Academy Coordinator, she is the reason our program has flourished. What can I say about Daisy Lord? She is honest, sincere, caring, and a very special lady. I have had the pleasure of working with Daisy for 5 years now. In these 5 years, I have enjoyed having Daisy as my Academy Coordinator. She has been so reliable, professional, organized, and informative on school matters. I am not surprised at all that she was nominated for Life Changer of the Year. Never have I ever heard one bad thing about Daisy, except for maybe that she never says "no." Her willingness to help others, especially our high school students blows me away. She truly cares about their futures and helps them in the present to figure out how to reach their goals for after high school.
I remember a few years ago, Daisy was planning the Academy Awards night (as she does every year) and she had so much on her plate! Between getting all the awards ready, decorating, creating and selling tickets, putting together a slideshow, writing her script, purchasing the refreshments, and planning the overall order of the evening, she still managed to make each student feel special as they were recognized for their accolades. Daisy had a gold star made for every single student with their name on it for the "Wall of Stars" she created (approx. 400 students). Each and every star had to be cut out just perfectly. That says it all!
Ms. Lord is an amazing person and one of the best coordinators I've had in my working life as a teacher. Although I've only been working with her for two courses until now, she has always supporting me since the beginning and exceptionally friendly with Spain and with the things of my country. She is a first class coordinator and the people who work with her know for sure. I wish her the best in her nomination because she deserves this and beyond.
Ms. Lord creates a sense of community for Academy students. Students know they are a part of a program bigger than themselves. Ms. Lord coordinates an end-of-year event called Academy Awards that brings in families and highlights our shining students.
Daisy Lord works tirelessly to make sure all of the academies at John I. Leonard shine. As a colleague and CTE instructor, I see how devoted she is to the students, parents and the instructors. Daisy spends countless hours fundraising, planning events and keeping up with the paperwork demands of an academy coordinator. No one is more deserving of Life Changer of the Year Award than Ms. Daisy Lord.
I have had the honor to be Mrs. Lord student aide for almost a year and I've seen all the effort, commitment and incredible hard work she puts into her job as academy coordinator. Mrs. Lord never stops; she is always working and giving her best at what she does. Mrs. Lord has not only taught me to be a responsible, hard worker and kind student but she has also striven to share new information about scholarships with me and several other students who really need them.
I had the honor of being the academy counselor with Daisy being the academy coordinator. For three years she was my boss, mentor, partner and most importantly, my friend. I am still lucky enough to call her my friend even though I no longer work at John I. Leonard.
Daisy’s ability to work with people to find solutions, create amazing events, and ease any parents concerns was inspiring to me. She taught me to always be kind, patient and see the good in people. Her positive attitude and love for her job make her nomination for this award easy and she is so deserving of it.
My mother is so passionate about her profession and has always gone above and beyond for her students, caring for them more than anyone could imagine. She is extremely hardworking and I am so proud to have her as my mom. Anyone who knows her can tell you stories of how kind and understanding she is. My mother is always there to lend a helping hand whether it be in the workplace, with her children, or with a stranger she’s met on the street. In a school with thousands of students she has made it her responsibility to know each and every one she has come into contact with. She is so deserving of this award and I know this award would give her school access to resources that would further her students’ educational experiences, and we are all so proud of her. Mrs. Lord is amazing at what she does. She is always available for her students and thinking of the next big thing to help. She takes on more jobs and tasks than anyone I have seen and always puts her full commitment to each and has great results. When I started at the school, she made me feel included and took care of every need that I have. She was a pleasure to work with!

As an educator of over 40 years, I can say with enthusiasm and confidence that Daisy Lord is indeed a Life Changer! In her current position as the coordinator of career academies, she always goes above and beyond. From coordinating a community board of business advisers to support her students, to conducting numerous large fund raisers for scholarships, to supporting students and parents in career academy choices, to teacher support, Daisy does all with professionalism, grace, and a smile. Beyond her incredible personal and work ethic is her desire to make sure each person understands his or her personal value. She constantly writes personal notes, gives small gifts and especially gives constant hugs and smiles to all around her. Daisy is not only a life changer to students in a public high school of over 3,000 but changes the life of each person with whom she comes in contact!

Ms. Lord has been a hard working coordinator since the day I met her my freshman year. Our school has over 3600 students and 89% free/reduced lunch. Ms. Lord has worked wholeheartedly to help out these students within the school's programs. Receiving this honor would allow these students to excel in their pursuit if education. Ms Lord is so generous and would love to see these students be given more opportunities for the future. It is difficult to think of anyone more deserving of this honor than Ms. Lord.

Daisy & I met in college back in 1989, instantly fell in love and have been married since 1992, with 2 amazing children. I've know her for 30 plus years and have been blessed abundantly because of her. She has always exhibited the highest level of character, work ethic, and passion for putting others first. The amount of effort, care, and concern she puts into her career as an educator is astonishing. Throughout the school year, I am first-hand witness to all the details of her day to day job responsibilities, school district deadlines, presentations, and special events which she coordinates, all of which she commits so much of herself above and beyond. She consistently gives so much of herself at home as well, as a wife and mother, helping our kids with homework, prioritizing and meeting deadlines, shuttling to practices, lessons, events and friends; tirelessly! And she does all of this with dignity and grace! She is without a doubt, a problem solver, a peacemaker, and joyful to be around. To see and hear her interactions with her students, co-workers, family, friends and church family are clear indicators that she makes a profound difference in the lives she touches; she truly is a "LifeChanger"!

Daisy truly has a passion for her work. With experience ranging from elementary to high school, regardless of her role, she’s made a tremendous impact on students. I have known Daisy for quite sometime now.We met in church through our daughters and have been friends since. Daisy is a loving mom, friend and a christian woman. Daisy Lord is the perfect person for this award. Over the years, I've worked with Daisy and watched how much she cares about students success. She prides herself on making sure that the academy program meets the needs of every student regardless of his or her background or economic status. Students know that they can come to her at anytime and that she will work tireless to ensure their question, problem, or concern is answered.
Furthermore, outside of Daisy Lord's countless responsibilities, she takes the time to organize field trips in which students gain knowledge about job opportunities and the world they live in. While on some of these field trips, Daisy moderated panel discussions that allowed students to questioned career professionals from several major career fields. Going the extra mile is nothing new for Daisy, its the standard.

Mrs. Lord is such a hard worker. As one of her former students, I recognized how much she would advocate for me and other students as well. She is very dedicated when it comes to her projects and completes them with perfection.

I have known and worked with Ms. Lord for at least 10 years. When I first met her at John I Leonard High School, she was doing the work of a social worker for our students - helping students with major problems such as homelessness, dysfunctional families and relationships, food or medical needs, and so much more. The students knew they had an advocate who really cared about them as she worked with them to find solutions or community resources that could help them. She also ran a tutorial program that helped students earn the credits needed for graduation, credits that their circumstances had kept them from earning in the traditional classroom setting. She was passionate about the most needy students in a school of over 3000 and there is no way to measure how much of a difference she made in their lives - but it was substantial! Now she manages the 4 academies. These academies not only let students focus on their special interests like computers, medicine, or foreign language but gives students a sense of belonging, a family, that is always ready to support them in all facets of their lives, not just their academics. She gives the students the ability to realize their dreams despite the obstacles that life puts in their way. She gives her heart and her life to the students who need her and changes the lives of everyone she meets.
Daisy Lord is my big sister, she has always been there for me and I have always looked up to her. She is an amazing profesional and inspiration. She gives so much of herself and really takes an interest in her students, helps them achieve their goals and potential. She works so hard and is very deserving of this recognition and award. I highly recommend Ms. Daisy Lord for this award! As a Municipal Library Director, I was looking for ways to build bridges with other organizations in our community who have the same goals of empowering students and supporting their path to academic success. Often school staff are too busy working inside their schools to reach out to the community. Ms. Lord tirelessly works for the students, parents and teachers of the school in addition to fostering relationships with community organizations. Ms. Lord understands these outside community contacts may positively contribute in various ways to the success of the students. She invited me to join the Advisory Board and I was able to meet teachers at the school which resulted in many positive partnerships where students had an opportunity to learn and grow. For example, students from the International Spanish Academy were able to interact with Spanish speaking senior citizens who want to preserve the cultural heritage of their countries for future generations in several events during the year. Students from the Finance Academy received Internship positions where they were able to complete their required internship hours for graduation and have meaningful professional work such as contributing to the Library's Technology Plan as well as digitization projects in an office setting. They were also able to learn about all the ways that a local public library can impact the community through its myriad of services and then partnered with me during their Career Day event which offered tips related to resumes, job applications, and interviewing skills. One of the students has recruited others to help expand this event this year and host it at our library (Village of Palm Springs)! Ms. Lord also has time to make all community contacts feel valued by taking the time to interact with us, writing little notes of holiday greetings, etc. She even attended our Library's Grand Re-Opening Ceremony after renovations in October. She has enough work to do at school yet she still makes the time to help everyone feel welcome and part of the team whether they are students, school staff or community members!
