LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Annie Chow was nominated by her principal, Alaaddin Akgul.

Each day, Ms. Chow makes a beneficial difference in the lives of her students. She understands the importance of student rigor and student leadership, and you can see her passion anytime you walk into her classroom.

Ms. Chow spearheaded River City’s Science Academy Mandarin's Olympiad Program. Through their hard work and dedication, her team placed 1st, receiving 11 Gold Medals and 3 Silver medals. Throughout the process, Ms. Chow worked very hard with her students and volunteered her time creating binders and notes to ensure they would be well-prepared for their competition.

Ms. Chow’s student test scores reflect her desire to teach her students effectively.  Her science students had the 2nd highest pass rate in the district, and her math students had the 6th highest pass rate in the District for the Florida State Assessment in the spring of 2019!

Ms. Chow is a major of source of inspiration and encouragement to her students and everyone around her. She will not allow them to give up and shows them different ways to solve problems. Her positive influence and leadership go beyond the students in her classroom, as she is also a Mentor Teacher to first year teachers, and she leads teacher developments through training, observations, and debriefs.

"I cannot think of a more honorable person to receive the LifeChanger Award," said Akgul.
