Jill Hinds was nominated by a parent and fellow LifeChanger nominee, Aymer Rojas.
Ms. Hinds grew up in Orangeburg and graduated from Winthrop University. After serving as the Service Learning Coordinator at Orangeburg School District Five, she began her teaching career at Brookdale Middle School, where she taught fifth and sixth grades. She has been a middle school teacher at Orangeburg Preparatory School for twelve years, where she was awarded the South Carolina Independent School Association Middle School Teacher of the Year.
Ms. Hinds teaches prep classes at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, volunteers for the Orangeburg Preparatory’s Sporting Clay team and Orangeburg Civic Ballet, and was a member of the Junior Service League for five years. In 2015-16, Ms. Hinds hosted Battle of the Books and won first place.
"Her efforts made an impact in students' reading habits, especially those of my daughter," Rojas said. "Ms. Hinds also created the reading lab in the middle school, where students can enjoy reading and research in a comfortable environment."
