Life Changer is the perfect title for Mrs Corbin! She truly deserves this award.I have never saw such a more caring unselfish individual . She has definitely made an impact in my life and in her community. She has overcome many obstacles many which I have witnessed first hand.I use her as an example when speaking with others that hard work and family support does pay off. As her story is one that some consider to be that of a statics, teen pregnancy, many people write off teenagers that become pregnant. They say its the end and that they will more than likely be poor, living off government assistance, living in the projects. Born and raised in the projects Ms Corbin she overcame finished school and is currently working on her doctorate degree. I admire her dedication to inner city youth. She has a true love and passion for teaching. Her love for the students goes pass the classroom. She has adopted families for Christmas and helped during the year. There are not many teachers that have that passion and or desire for the students. She also loves and supports her friends and family. She is always there to support them in any way possible. She is a great listener. She motivates and encourages all that she encounters. She always has some positive advise to give. She has continued to motivate me to finish school so that I a single mother of 2 can provide a better life for me and my kids. She also promotes higher education and continued education. Therefore I think she would be the BEST candidate for this award as her life is a reflection of just that LIFE CHANGER. She has definitely helped change mine for the better and for that I will be forever grateful.

Ms. Corbin is the best techer in math she is the best teacher for me i love her class because she try to teach the students what they dont understand for they can pass the class and test and everyday she teaches us to pass everything she has taught us and she is very inspiring to me because she come here almost everyday of the week to teach us. She allows other students to assist me when my language is a barrier. she also has posters that inspired us to keep trying harder and thats why i think she is the best teacher there is in Zumwalt.

Ms.Corbin is a great teacher. She knows how to really get to the point without the extra exexplaining.Even if we dont get it she breaks it down even more than that to the simplest she can. She does the best she can and all she asks for in return is to listen what she she says.Take heave to what she says use it in life and bethe best we can, because all we are trying to prove is that we can be more than what they see us as. She inspires me to go to college and have a career so i can have a better life. Ms. Corbin is a life changer.

Mrs.Corbin is the best math teacher i have had yet ! With me moving from Atlanta to Texas . Everything is different (the learning ) it's like everything that i had learned before in Atlanta was hardly useless because of the subject they were on . In math ive always hardly passed and always hardly knew what was being tought to me but . Mrs.corbin surely did change that for me i asked her for help anything i didnt understand i asked can you explain that to me again and id give her a great explanation as to what it is i need help with . And she was always so willing. She is determined for everyone to always pass in her class . I never wanna let Mrs.Corbin down , i never act up in her class , and thats because shes a great teacher and i try my hardest on every assignment to show that shes not teaching for no reason and that i understand. As a whole in the class every one participates every knows what there doing . For these kinds of reasons Mrs.Corbin is the best teacher !! She has made me work harder and math SHE IS A LIFE CHANGER

I just love this woman. Everybody can't say they love the job, but when you have someone who goes out of their way to help not only their students but people in general says alot. As a college student major elementary teacher, Denetta has been there to answer late night calls and early morning texts. If I haven't learned anything else I've learned to always finish what I start and never give up. No matter how long it takes me to finish the most important thing is that I finish and that's one thing Denetta always told me when I tried to give up on school.

I met Mrs. Corbin over 20 years ago when we were young and trying to find our way through life. We had no clue of what life was and made many of decisions early on in life that we may not be proud of but have shaped us into the women that we are today. I had not been in touch with Mrs Corbin for awhile but I was in awe of her accomplishments that she had made in life with graduating high school, college, and becoming a teacher. Mrs. Corbin is an example of how "its not where you are from, but were you want to go" because she beat all odds inspite of the challenges that she faced in her childhood. This is why I am nominating her for the Life Changer of the Year.

The passion she has for teaching is undeniable. She approaches each student according to their needs and that’s how she gets through. Her teaching style is thorough and effective. Mrs. Williams-Corbin’s students love her because they know she really cares. So she is the best candidate for this award, hands down!!

Having learned of the call for nominations for this year's Life Changer award, I am writing today to nominate a highly suitable individual, Mrs. Denetta Williams. In many ways exceeding the challenging requirements and expectations when it comes to service, and humility. Mrs. Williams' ambitions, intelligence, and accomplishments make her highly deserving of the honor of a true Life Changer. It could be a call from a current or former student, or a friend in need and wanting encouragement, Mrs. Williams is there. The display of love and a desire to support others, have stood out amongst even the most challenging of situations. I'm not sure, if Mrs. Williams will take away this particular recognition, but one thing is for sure....she has consistently helped to be a Life Changer in the lives of so many, young and older, that's fact. May God continue the work, he has particularly, definitely and purposely started in you, and May others continue to be encouraged and blessed through it. Thank you Mrs. Denetta Williams, for all you do in the lives of others!

Latrina Brown Posted over a year ago

Congrats Denetta!! You are an exceptional friend and teacher. I'm glad I had the opportunity to co-teach with you. A year when our kids outperformed the other students. That relationship you had with them was phenomenal! Keep up the superb work ethics!

Jennifer Oh Posted over a year ago

Thanks for everything you did for me during the time we worked together. You always went above and beyond to assist me the struggling first year teacher who didn't know anything about teaching. I remember you always helped during your off periods and pulled certain kids aside to make my life easier that made your life difficult. You showed me how to create effective lesson plans and you were always kind enough to let me "borrow them" and use your supplies. You gave me tips on classroom management by not just giving me verbal tips, but you came to my class and SHOWED me, which is something no one has offered or tried to offer. You helped tutor my 8th grade students so that I can more easily focus on tutoring my Algebra students. Even during just one year of working together, I can tell you have such a big impact on these kids and how you influence and inspire their lives. You truly are an amazing teacher so thank you for devoting your life to helping kids who need it the most! Thank you for being AMAZING!!!

There's not a person let alone a teacher who has more passion to impact the lives of young people. I am proud to be able nominate Denetta, she is not only a woman who has walked in the shoes of many of the students she teaches, but she has become a living example of what it means to overcome any circumstance in life. She is smart, dedicated and determined, I have watched her push not only herself but others as well, one being my own daughter. My daughter was preparing for college and was having challenges with passing the math part of her SAT test, Mrs Denetta took the time to work with her and prepare her to pass her test, it was a major obstacle that she had to overcome and without Denetta's help she may not have been able to get the four year scholarship to a top SEC school. Beyond her teaching ability is just a woman with a big heart to truly made a difference, honestly if we had more teachers like Denetta we would see a major change in our school system. No one understands their student like Denette, she truly understands her students struggles, she also knows what it means to truly persevere and live your dreams. I'm so excited to nominate Denetta, for the Life Changer of the Year Award, she is more than deserving of this great honor and it is well overdue! Sonya J. Wells

Mrs. Dennette Williams Corbin is one of the most unassuming people that I have ever met. In fact, she is one most intelligent, witty, humble, relentless and caring people I know. From the very first time that I met her, she has strived with a Spirit of Excellence and she has been relentless to accomplish her professional, academic and personal goals not only for herself, but as inspiration to her family, friends, peers and students. Her very Life has inspired me... She has tutored and simplified my college math class..I couldn't have made it without her help! I never will forget when she inspired her middle school students to pass 8th grade math. One student said, " I met anyone who LOVES Math like you, Mrs. Williams-Corbin"; as a result, the student was inspired to pass 8th grade math class. Mrs. Corbin is true example of a Life Changer; She has continuely inspired encouraged, tutored and overall, go beyond the call of study to help others accomplish their personal, academic and professional goals. Mrs. Dennette Williams- Corbin Exemplifies a Spirit of Excellence and Is a true Life Changer.

Mrs. Denetta Corbin is very deserving of the Lifechanger of the Year award because she has devoted her time, talents and resources to change the lives of young people in our community. Mrs. Corbin spent her childhood years and completed her formal education in the same public school system where she has taught math for the past 11 years, so she brings a unique perspective to the classroom. She currently chairs the Math Department at Sarah Zumwalt Middle School where she mentors and collaborates with math teachers to design and implement classroom activities to maximize engagement and rigor for students. Mrs. Corbin’s positive impact in urban education transcends far beyond teaching mathematical concepts in the classroom; she adds value to her community by supporting and sponsoring local academic and athletic events and attending awards ceremonies and high school graduations to support current and former students. Mrs. Corbin’s commitment to help young people recognize and reach their greatest potential is evident in her continued involvement with her students even after they have left her classroom. She has helped many of her former students prepare for college entrance exams by offering weekend and evening tutoring sessions! Mrs. Corbin is a Lifechanger because she continues to use her individual experiences and personal accomplishments to effectively demonstrate to her students that they are not limited by their environment, but by their choices. Mrs. Corbin should receive this special award in recognition of her dedication and unwavering commitment to positively impact the lives of students in her community.

Mrs. Corbin is the epitome of an amazing educator. As a new teacher, she took me under her wing last year as the math department chair by mentoring and helping me understand what it is to be a great math teacher. The stress of being new to a profession was definitely alleviated with her kindness and positivity. She also helped me get my students to a 79% passing rate on the STAAR exam. I have never seen a teacher connect better with students while also teaching them about the real world. Mrs Corbin is passionate about her craft to say the least and she is one of the best mentors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. For these students to have a teacher that is willing to go above and beyond for them to understand difficult math concepts is amazing in itself. Students will leave her classroom for the year ready to conquer the next chapter of their lives. Whether inside or outside the classroom, Mrs Denetta Corbin will forever change lives and foster growth within her students as well as those around her each day.

She carries a whole community of people with her who root for her and who succeeds when she succeeds. She is what's right with education. She is the change we want to see: the root of education being planted in low income, urban, underserved, hard working, blue collar America. Thank you for all your hard work Mrs. Corbin!

Mrs. Corbin is not only a teacher and mentor for her students. She is also a mentor and a shoulder to lean on for many adults like myself. She's always willing to help anyone better themselves and will be there rooting for you the entire time. Although she's very educated, she has the ability to relate to many kids from her same environment. That alone is a rare quality and breaks barriers for the children who may not feel worthy of greatness because of where they come from. Looking at Mrs. Corbin over the years makes me feel like I can move mountains regardless of my circumstances and age. You can call or text her any time of the day or night and she's there! I think Mrs. Corbin should win the LifeChanger Award because she has demonstrated how to live a victorious life. She decided that her faith and education would be the vehicle that she would use to reach her goals. Now she can unequivocally show her students a road map that will change their life. Denetta knows what it takes to inspire her student and that is her battle cry..."Hard work pays off". After encouraging her students to "put in the work", growth and improvement will surely come. Success is a choice and Denetta is commited to changing the life of her students through her story and her teaching of mathematics. Mrs. Corbin will be an excellent recipient of The LifeChanger Award and I highly recommend her.

Brenda Randle Posted over a year ago

Ms. Corbin is an excellent choice for the LifeChanger award. As one of her former administrators, I observed the passion for the profession and the dedication for her students. She would often stay late tutoring students or working on various projects with the after school programs. She knew how to motivate the unmotivated. Ms. Corbin was and still is able to encourage students to do their best. I am so grateful that Ms. Corbin did not give up. Many students are in a better position because they had Ms. Corbin as a teacher. This is why she deserves the recognition because in spite of the struggles of her earlier years, she is making a difference.

Betty Washington Posted over a year ago

I believe Denetta Corbin should be named Life changer of the year because she was a statistic once but changed her life and became an example of sucess for the kids in her low socio-economic neighborhood She gave back to her neighborhood when she went back and taught math at the middle school. She has "high expectations" for her students. She's always willing to tutor and lend a listening ear to the student. Denetta should receive this award because she is a team player/leader and mentor.

She's always the first person to help out when I need advice or assistance with anything that I'm going through. She motivates me & pushes me toward my goals even when I can't see the finish line in sight. During my journey to become an educator she has spent countless hours mentoring me while also providing a listening ear. She is a very loyal & dedicated cousin & friend. I really think Mrs. Corbin should be the recipient of this award. The title alone epitomizes who Mrs. Corbin is in real life. I know her personally and I can attest to the drastic change that occurred in her life. I can remember myself thinking Mrs. Corbin years ago wouldn't bounce back from the challenges life threw her way. Today she stands as a testament to many children who are now in her same shoes. I've watched Missy mentor under priviledged girls for over ten years now. I still haven't figured out how she was able to provide for her children and ALL of her needy students, too. She is always motivating and encouraging students who have started out on the wrong path. She gives so much of heart, time, and money to her students. I recommend her with the highest regard and respect for what she does.

Having you as a teacher pushed me to make sure I took on a challenge. Everyday in your classroom was fun, while learning. I wanted to be a teacher & you equipped me with the basic math skills to get as far as I have now. Keep doing what you do. Award or no award, your students appreciate everything you've done for each and every student you've taught. You're an amazing woman and I cant think of anyone who deserves this award more than you.

I've know Mrs. Corbin for a very long time, I was one of her students, back when she taught in the west Dallas community. Mrs. Corbin has always been an inspiration to me. The way she interacted with me and my fellow classmates you could tell she was in the right career field.

I've known Denetta "Missy" Williams Corbin a long time, and I've always saw GREATNESS in her. She's overcome a lot by the Grace Of God, but I never once thought she wouldn't. She's a WOMAN OF GOD, a GREAT WIFE, and MOTHER! I admire her will, intellect, and ambition. She's truly an epitome of the phrase "Life Changer" I congratulate you for all that you do. God Bless. Good luck, and I love you.

I just believe this woman not only changed her life but, she's now changing many lives. I know her & her struggle personal and if you had to place a bet she would have been just another black girl from the low income area going no where fast but you would have lost because she caught through so much, and the things she faught through would have took down the strongest person but, with God & sure determination she made away out of a almost impossible situation to become a teacher, mother, wife, leader but most of all, an example of hope. All I can say is that I am honored to have witnessed first hand her struggle & what God & Her motivation & determination has brought her through. She Rocks... I Love Mrs.Corbin she will always be my sister in every sense of the word.

Well i met Mrs.Corbin my 8th grade year (2008), as a student in her math class. She made learning entertaining and fun. I couldn't wait to get to her class. She even gave me an opportunity to teach my peers a lesson the way I looked at the equations. As well as i learned a life changing lesson; the lesson of confidence for everyday life.

Mrs.Corbin has been my role model for 5+ years now, I admired her life story because it's very similar to mines. She never hesitated to tell her story and have always told me that having children early don't stop anything keep pushing and never give up. She gave me so much hope at life, she understood my every struggle. I met Mrs.Corbin when she was a teacher at my middle school, Edison, I'm 23 now and for words of encouragement , when I feel like the world's against me ,when I don't understand something,or any problem I'm having big or small she's who I'm calling. The impact she have on my life may take years to explain. Everybody I meet ask me where do you think you get you're ambition and drive from,I don't come across a lot of people your age with you mind frame, and I ALWAYS SAY, "my role model ,my middle school teacher Ms.Williams (now Mrs.Corbin) pushed me and motivated me to be ambitious ,she wouldn't allow me to give up, she wouldn't allow me to sit around and act like my world stopped because I've had kids early, she taught me how to use them as motivation to wanna better my life. i love you so much Mrs.Corbin you deserve every achievement ,every blessing that comes your way.
