Randall Deich was nominated by his principal, Ryan Reardon.

Mr. Deich has implemented a program that engages the school community and advances computer science education for high-need secondary students. Through after-school sessions with focused mentoring initiatives, students develop computer science workforce skills that lead to experiences they normally wouldn't have had. To guide their learning, students are presented with an industry-specific, purpose-driven problem that addresses pain points from a community member. Students are mentored by industry professionals weekly through Saturday workshops, video conferencing, and email correspondence to teach and develop their skills. These sessions are designed to equip students with the support necessary to develop and deploy computer science solutions that meet community demands.

The after-school computer science program at Lauderhill 6-12 delivers industry-driven outcomes, providing a student experience that aligns with the demands of workforce employment needs. As a result, students have not only been recognized nationally, but have earned employment opportunities and paid internships. Students are engaged, motivated, and now interested in pursuing STEM careers.

Mr. Deich has also been asked to deliver and prepare community outreach presentations at the following 2018-19 conferences:

  • Annual Conference for Middle Level Education (Orlando)
  • EdTech Teacher Summit (Boston)
  • Future of Education Conference (Orlando)
  • Computer Using Educators of Nevada Conference (Vegas)
  • International Society for Technology in Education (Philadelphia)
  • Serious Play Conference (Orlando)

"I am proud of Mr. Deich and his dedication to his students," said Reardon.

Mr. Deich has been a very strong supporter, motivator and mentor for my girls over the last 8 years. He has been their source of guidance on and sometimes off campus as well. He introduced my girls to coding and it is because of his influence, they are strong, confident college students majoring in computer science. I am extremely proud and thankful for his guidance and support and wish him well in the future. He is well deserving of this ward

Randall Deich has always been a life changer! He co-wrote a $1.6 million US Department of Education grant for my Leadership Development Program at Broward County Public Schools, FL. in 2002! Whether teaching elementary, middle, high school students or adults, Randee stays on the cutting edge of innovation! Mr. Deich has created an impressive, replicable STEM program in computer science that connects industry IT professionals with his students for an authentic four-year school-to-work experience!
